A curious statement by a National conference protester from yesterday:
Bentley-Payne said Key’s “mandate” talk was meaningless. “A quarter of the population didn’t vote last year. We want to connect with those people.”
For a start a quarter is less than those who voted for National.
And speaking for a group of people who chose not to vote or couldn’t give a stuff about voting is a very odd mandate to claim.
I hear the non-voter dream often – “if only the million people that have been duped by National would vote for us we would be in our leftful place in power”.
No one can claim any support or mandate from those that don’t exercise their right to vote.

/ July 22, 2012Quite so Pete; if you don’t exercise your right to vote, you get the government that you deserve. Or to paraphrase; if you didn’t vote, don’t moan!

/ July 22, 2012And also – don’t claim to represent a group of people who have chosen not to choose a representative.

/ July 22, 2012I think this is a real problem -’Moaners’ who did not vote (Yes with a Capital M) – get what they deserve; those who ‘moaned and voted Left’ – also got what they deserve; those who ‘moaned and voted extreme’ – for ACT or NZFirst, also get the same result. Extreme Greens etc – and anything else – the same is true there too: Moaners who cannot tell maturity from immaturity… blah blah… this is disturbing people – and I am not being condescending. Grow up please I beg you!
