It’s just…thinly disguised socialism

Occupy Dunedin shared this poster on their Facebook page:

This is like a religious message, designed to attract unthinking disapproval of business.

Itt’s just thinly disguised socialism, with an to mislead into opposing ‘profit’ – like, who wouldn’t be in the side of ‘humanity’? The better side of humanity that is, parts of humanity have been quite inhumane at times.

There can be problems with profit when greed dominates, but doing business, with the associated profit component, is an integral part of modern prosperous humanity.

  1. I think the ad says more about runaway profit motives than all profit is evil. Just as those parts of humanity that we don’t like and contend with – Christianity versus Islam for example – Jews versus Muslims – racism versus equality….etc etc

    • Occupy Dunedin (and other Occupies in New Zealand) had a strong soclialst influence. In Dunedin they prominently displayed Socialist Aoteroa flags. Socialist Aoteroa was also prominent in Occupy Auckland.

I spoke to some of the Occupeirs when they were camping in the Octagon, I’ve followed them on Facebook and I’ve heard some of them speaking at public meetings.

They suggested changing our monetary system completely, and eliminating banks. They discussed setting up their own barter system.

And they proposed doing away with central government entirely, and have all decisions made by local community groups.

Occupy in New Zealand was hijacked and used by opportunist socialists.

Occupy Dunedin (and New Zealand) see all profit as evil. They are extreme socialists.

      • AHH! Thanks for clarifying Occupy’s stance – I was not fully aware of their position. But rhetorically the ad could be used in a more positive debate about value assumptions – without the extreme views. Interesting post.
