Dunne is one of the most successful adapters to MMP, and on of the most successful MPs under MMP.

The submotters provided groups of opinions but were not a democratic measure of opinion.

The commision recommendations would have made us less proportional - and worse than the original reccommedation.

They should have started with the most proportional system possible and only varid that if it could be shown that it would have a negative effect on democracy.

Self interested parties have had too much influence.

It's not a problem that suddenly started happening yesterday and can be fixed today. Kids have been going hungry since forever.

It sounds like something will be announced in the budget tomorrow that helps address this. Hopefully it will be targeted at those that need it most rather than dished out regardless of actual need or cause.

Of course a lot of poor people strruggling to get by is a concern. But knowing there are statistically 270,000 children in poverty tells us nothing about what problems need addressing.

And knowing that apparently 80,000 kids go to school hungry doesn't allow us to address the cause of that.

We have to target the causes of the problems. Just taking an abitrary number and dishing out more money won't do that efficiently or affordably.

"we do, but we expect a robust intelligent targeted approach that effectively attacks the root problem, rather than just throwing free breakfasts at everyone because a small proportion of people can’t or don’t feed their kids."

So the kids starve in the meantime? You call feeding hungry children "throwing free breakfasts at everyone? Nice.

"Using official household income statistics, it is estimated that 270,000 (25%) children live in poverty…

That is an often quoted figure, but it’s based on statistics and does not measure how many kids go hungry. "

Pete, You might as well ask to define what hunger is.

With 270,000 children living in poverty, doesn't that alone concern you and give you pause for thought? I would have thought it does. You and other right wingers keep deflecting to this strange notion of precise statistics. (Even though Bennett refuses to conduct such a study.) Why? Because it gives you an "out" to do nothing, that's why. I suspect even if precise numbers were provided, you'd next be asking "but how hungry is hungry?".

Shame on you and your precious MP. You've lost my vote.

I think this is a flawed view. Not all voters are created equal and, as we see often enough, people who don't make a nett contribution to the money go round will vote for political promises that someone else has to pay for. I'm not sure where to draw a line about that but I'm darned sure Russel Norman is all about control for him and his Marxist colleagues - he is out of touch with economic reality as it is in 2013.
