Winston “not ruling out’ is meaningless

Winston Peters is not ruling out standing in the Northland by-election apparently.

That means nothing from Winston except that he’s not ruling out milking whatever media attention he can get out of it.

I doubt he will stand for an electorate. He likes grandstanding but there’s too much risk of political embarrassment and little to gain in the bigger scheme of things.

Would he have the energy to do justice to a by-election campaign let alone being an electorate MP?

Winston realised several elections ago he gained more chasing nationwide party votes rather than getting bogged down in an electorate.

If Winston does end up standing, then it would only be because he thinks Marks is going to roll him before the next election.

(hits Sponge for using line about Winston before I could say it)

He’s not not ruling out the free publicity, he’s doing whatever the opposite of ruling out is.

I can’t believe his childishness where David Seymour’s concerned. He doesn’t have to like the man, but to call him ‘See-less’ is pathetic in anyone of Winston’s age, It’s the sort of ‘joke’ that one would expect from the under-10s. And heckling someone’s first speech is just not done. He must be jealous that DS is very young and very successful-at less than half WP’s age,

      Sorry 🙂

I agree about Peters. I feel that he knows he is a fading force and in his last parliament so is flailing about trying to make an impact. He is one of those guys who, like Jessie Ryder, could be a brilliant player but no one would want them on your team.

He could be a sort of elder statesman figure, if he didn’t try to outdo the young ones and risk looking like a jealous old hasbeen. His jokes (sic) are ancient and weren’t funny even when they were new. The Wongs/White one is gibberish and his one about rival political parties meeting in a phonebooth has been around as long as phonebooths have, I would imagine.

His gold cards are very nice-but, of course, everyone else’s taxes are paying for them. I thought that when someone went on a bus with one that they had a free ride, no cash involved, but the government pays the bus company for the gold card user’s ride out of taxes. For this reason, I do feel that Waiheke Island ferry rides should be restricted when I hear how many million that costs for what are really joyrides-it was never intended for that.. An old man I know thought that it could be a variation on a 10 trip-so many bus rides a week, and pay for any over that amount.

A sort of Flexipass wouldn’t be bad, either; So many hours or km a month.

Minor parties have to fight for oxygen, you might like to call it “grand standing” but it has made his party the most successful minor party ( except maybe the Greens depending on how you look at it ) in NZ politics.

WP is anything but a fool, but he does tend to act like one. He doesn’t need to be so mean-spirited, he’s really letting himself down in that respect.

Remember that you’re paying for it and that the millions that it costs are coming from the money that would have been used for other things. It’s not a cashless free ride, it’s a free ride paid for by everyone who doesn’t have one.
