This Child

It’s very difficult for parents of chronically sick children. And of course it’s awful for the children.

And it’s very frustrating for them when they see there are possible effective treatments that are being denied them due to anti-cannabis political pig-headedness.

A plea to Associate Health Minister Peter Dunne has been put into a poem by one mother.

Here is my poem about my little girl and why she needs medical marijuana

ThisChildThere is a glimmer of hope – see Poll supports medical cannabis, Dunne considering.

Parents need more than glimmers of hope. They need to know one way or another whether medical cannabis can be legally used in New Zealand to help This Child.

Have you ever smoked pot or done drugs of any kind during your life Pete ???

I was very surprised that you authored this post, because it seems to be preying upon the readers emotions.

It doesn’t sit well with me.

    • It’s emotional for people with chronic problems, and especially for parents of children with chronic problems, when they think something could be available that will help substantially but they’re not allowed to use it.

I’ve never smoked cannabis, and virtually never smoked tobacco. Both my parents did and both died of related illnesses.

I’ve used alcohol too much when i was young but a grew out of that and now am an occasional light drinker.

I used prescription drugs occasionally if I don’t think there’s any alternative. I rarely use painkillers.

I haven’t used any illicit drugs ever except for under age drinking.

@George. But you are encouraging us in here to support children with disabilities to be given Marijuana. Have you lost your fucking mind ???

        • Maybe you don’t understand what it’s about – plant extracts used for treatment as pills or liquid extracts formulated into an oromucosal spray. No smoking involved. No intoxication involved.

The reason why many adults smoke for medicinal use is because safer forms are mostly illegal, expensive and difficult to obtain. If cannabis based medicines were more readily available people could use safer forms.

People forget that it has been used as medicine for many, many centuries. We have all probably used opiates-I was a happy little morphine head after a near-fatal crash.

A friend was quite ill after he stopped using codeine for a medical condition. Morphine, codeine and pethidine are opiates like heroin, Heroin used to be used for pain relief. So did cocaine. Someone I knew became addicted to pethidine when she was given it in hospital and found, to her horror, when she no longer needed it for the pain that she was craving it for the nice effect that it gave, I only realised when I no longer had the morphine that I was almost welcoming the pain’s onset because it meant that I could have the morphine ! All three of us are people who have never had any dealings with hard drugs, needless to say, and never want to !
