to be honest I didn’t notice – It was up when I was able to (finally) get on this page – it is one that I strangely cannot access without my VPN, not sure why. 🙂

I just saw this comment at TS in the daily review, it is from MickeySavage:

“As noted in open mike Mihirangi Forbes resigned today apparently because of managerial interference in a story she was going to run on the Kohanga Reo movement. Pass the bananas …”

It doesn’t matter to me who is making such a comment, it seems (to me anyway) pretty benign, but then I got thinking about the last bit of ‘pass the bananas’ and wondered how those at TS would react if it was made somewhere like Whaleoil or Kiwiblog in reference to a Maori TV presenter. I concluded that many would read into it racist undertones of associating bananas with Maori, and indigenous populations etc. It is this kind of thing that really makes me angry about many of the so-called leftist activists, how they attribute the worst of motives to those they dislike, but when one of their own do something similar it is all about context, and not what was meant, and intent.

Another recent example is of course the planet key song where there was the inference of rape, and simultaneously over at TS they were accusing the Government and Right wing bloggers of aiding in a ‘rape culture’ in NZ whilst applauding this awful song and connotations of rape.

Just wanted to get that out there.

Please note: I in no way think that MS is a racist, or that there was any racist meaning attached to the content, I was just musing on the way a similar comment would be interpreted by TS if said elsewhere.
