Rachinger plots thicken

The Ben Rachinger plots get ever more convoluted and murky. There is a mass of noise, insinuation and accusations, and a lack of substantial evidence.

Today Lauda Finem have added to this with more noise, insinuation and accusations, and a lack of substantial evidence.

What seems to be pretty much accepted as fact:

  • Ben Rachinger was paid a number of sums of money by Cameron Slater amounting to thousands of dollars (Rachinger calls them payments, Slater calls them loans).
  • Slater has feuded with Lynn Prentice and The Standard for yonks.

It appears that:

  • Slater talked to Rachinger about trying to obtain data from The Standard website to use to try and embarrass The Standard and Labour.

The murky plots include:

  • A businessman employed Rachinger to do a hit job on Slater (no evidence).
  • An unknown funder was providing money to Slater to pay Rachinger.
  • Rachinger had a relationship that ended badly with a political journalist (scant evidence).
  • Rachinger tried to blackmail the journalist (no evidence) using compromising photos (possible evidence).
  • The journalist has arranged with all media to leave their story alone.
  • The item on The Nation was associated with all of the above.
  • Lauda Finem is associated with Slater (denied and no evidence).
  • Prentice from The Standard (denied) is associated with the businessman who is associated with Rachinger who was associated with Slater.

There seems to be no urgency from police in investigating any of this.

Media have been watching but apart from a short flurry led by the item on The Nation have left it all alone.

This has been emerging since last year, drip drip drip with the occasional gush.

Are there any independent investigative journalists in New Zealand?

All I’m reasonably certain about is that Slater and Rachinger have been compromised, and the plots keep getting thicker and murkier.

Please be careful what is mentioned in comments, especially names.

I have a sneaky suspicion that it will eventually turn out that this was one gigantic attempted setup of Cam Slater. Slater slags them all off with impunity, and i think this is them trying to put him out of business once and for all because they actually fear him and what dirt he has on all/most of them.

Nothing in the way of evidence, it just all feels so …. scripted. Like you couldn’t make this shit up. So much so that I feel it has to be.

    Anyhooo, time will tell.

To date Rachinger seems to have the most problems. If true that he was trying to blackmail Williams – and that does appear looking likely, then thats his first issue, but if the text photos are say half true – IE its her face but a photoshopped body then little Ben has some big problems. The Standard was not hacked so no crime there. Time will tell on the rest i guess.

    • had not thought of that @buckwit – sending pics of your partner nude is one thing after a bitter break up (or your just a prick), but making some up using say photoshop to destroy the other person takes it to a whole new level. whoever has access to the images should look into the metadata. the other option of course is Rachinger was intending to entrap Slater

well it’s illegal to send out private nude photos like Rachinger has so that’s an offence

    • Maybe not, in a Herald article (as said elsewhere it now seems to have been taken down) they quote law and online experts who say the law doesn’t cover this well currently.

      • well i would say if he was blackmailing her and or making up the texts showing her face with another body might cause him some problems – then again if he wanted her to be fired perhaps he just succeeded

“There seems to be no urgency from the Police in investigating any of this”

Maybe they decided it would be best to just hand over the entire file to the Mental Health Division of the DHB for further investigation ??

  5. 10 and 11 year old girls often have spats full of dramas and spite. The way they play the game and the length of time they’re involved usually has a lot to do with the type of upbringing they’ve had (or been subjected to.)
This saga reminds me of that. Sometimes a tired parent will tell a trouble maker to “get a life.”
When the saga is life, is more important than life, it must run its course.
If your kids were involved with this sort of stuff what would you say to them?

Interesting this link was attached to an article written by David Fisher RE Jessica Williams – strange it has now been removed.

Stuff for a school English class to discuss.

@Kerry – she is extremely thick! She is compromised in so many ways. And certainly zero integrity left!!!! Not to mention the kid is mentally unstable. And she is a mum – who carries on like that. A career in tatters.

Good people are saying @mizjwilliams is awesome and Ben Rachinger arguably should be arrested.

Are they good people with legal knowledge?

    • its all over the world Pete – links above show its getting around. Rachinger should be arrested – it seems he knows no bounds on what he will do. how on earth TV3 threw their own to the wolves is beyond comprehension.

Ray I can say genuinely I hope so. But you would think Media Works would have corrected that even if they were playing a much deeper game – which I think is unlikely in any case. But even entertaining such an unlikely scenario there always comes a point when a supposedly serious news player can no longer endanger their staff for a story of this type in this way. It’s not Somalia. My first real alert this was going really wrong was not hearing a peep from the political commentaries on Sunday morning radio including Chapman (RNZ), Sainsbury and most of all Selwyn Manning (Radio Live).

  11. One of the many odd things about this.

Rachinger has been trying to get his Slater/Standard/hack story out since February as far as I know, and media have been watching him and in contact with him since then.

The Nation (Mediaworks) picked it up and ran it last weekend.

Now the RadioLive (MediaWorks) political editor story comes out. Were Mediaworks aware of the Williams issue? If so why did they promote Rachinger’s Slater story?

    • on the cash there PG! It beggars belief!

      • Now this is pure speculation on one possibility and would seem bizarre (but much of this multi pronged story is bizarre) – did MediaWorks do Rachinger’s story under threat?

Yes, that’s the question that’s got me too, if Ms Williams had encouraged the MSM to ignore the story, why did ‘The Nation’ break ranks, probably knowing what their story would lead to. She was associated with the programme so who had the most to gain from the story airing over the weekend and why now. Is someone important due in court this week? Plot certainly is thickening???

When one desperate lunatic sends intimate photos to another desperate lunatic, this is the outcome. I have no sympathy for either of them. They are both professionally and morally challenged.

Rachinger is in a power of hurt now! What will his mum say?!?! She was crying before over Lauda Finem according to his twit account. His TV show just smashed himself so bad. Not to mention Williams is a laughing stock

  14. Another interesting twist – Rachinger was a bit of a hero to the left who liked the hit job on Slater – but they’ve turned toxic on him now. Seems like a few leftie activists are quite sympathetic to Williams (and she to them) going by what’s been exchanged on Twitter.

Pete the only reason the “left” you mean The Standard, Lynn Prentice & Greg Presland championed this little shit roll was it allowed them to attack Cameron Slater and his Whale
Oil blog. Rachinger is expired stock now so his corpse is left to rot like road kill. Reality is today Lauda Finem tagged and bagged Rachinger big time. Taking Williams and quite likely some at Media Works with him.

If this situation involved anyone but another journalist how many of the news outlets that had these photo’s in December would have refrained from printing them with the story? I would guess none.

Whilst this is most likely a terrible and stressful time for the journalist in question, and there are questions around the authenticity and genuineness of the photo’s, I find it very difficult to have any sympathy for Jessica Williams. She has been protected to a degree by her colleagues, protection no-one else gets from the media – witness the way they gleefully printed the pictures, and showed the video, of that unfortunate couple in Christchurch, no care was given to them, their families, or the possibility of them losing their jobs. That is just one example where the media in NZ have callously and carelessly reported information with no regard to the individuals involved – the worst being when one media outlet disregarded the request of a dead soldiers family to refrain from naming him. The media in this country are nothing more than salacious gossip mongers for the most part, and while they show no respect for anyone’s privacy, and no care if allegations they print are true or not, they will go to all sorts of lengths to protect their own.

I may sound harsh, but there is a reason that journalists are the least trusted profession in this country, and when it becomes known that a story about one of their own is kept quiet for 6 months when they would gleefully print it if it was about anyone else, they deserve that label!

For the record, if these were the rumours that were under discussion yesterday, these are different rumours to what I have heard about Rachinger. I am thinking that if there is any validity to the other rumours it won’t be long before they surface, and cause a whole lot more problems for him.

He is definitely out of his depth on this one.

Young Mr Rachinger has been a very, very silly boy, trying to play big people’s games. I have very little sympathy for him.

My old boss CJ was apt to say “I didn’t get where I am today by playing games”…
