The Trump circus, the Peters circus, the Craig circus

The Trump circus continues in the US. It’s over u year until the US election.

They have just discussed it on TV One’s Breakfast. It was mentioned how Trump was getting all the media attention.

Who is giving him all that attention, and why?

The female presenter (I genuinely don’t remember her name) remarked that Trump was entertaining and she liked the entertainment.

I think that highlights the problem. Media are becoming obsessed with entertainment. Serious issues and intelligent analysis are diminishing rapidly as those who see themselves as entertainers (media ‘personalities) promote trite coverage of those who promote themselves as entertaining (joke political aspirants).

This is why Winston Peters and Colin Craig get so much media attention here. The entertainment industry see them as entertaining.

Perhaps the people will pay more attention to politics if we had Reality Parliament.

The running of the country would get even less focus and scrutiny but maybe that’s what the people want.

I think the Donald is great. LOL.

He is really putting some spice into what is normally a really boring lead-up to the US Presidential Election.

If I was an American, I would be tempted to vote for him 🙂

I found his remarks gross and revolting. It was obvious that he was referring to her having her period, and to say that only a deviant would think so is absurd. What else could he mean ?

He’s a fool to alienate 1/5 of the voters and even more of one to make disgusting remarks like the one he made. What a dirty old man.

I am at a loss to know why any wannabe politician would insult 20% of the potential voters and make repulsive remarks about women who are 50% of the voters. I do not see all derogatory remarks made about a woman as sexist, but this really was.

He risks turning off 60% of the voting public-what a fool !

The Donald has a very dry and sarcastic sense of humour, which not everyone is able to get 🙂

He is a buffoon. That remark was not funny, it was gross. The remarks about Hispanics are just stupid. I have read and heard enough dry humour to know it when I hear it-I have two degrees in English Literature, one an MA (Hons)-and there is nothing clever about his comments. He told a contestant that she’d look good on her knees-ha ha, very funny. I don’t think. He’s a hillbilly.

  4. The Republicans tend to do this – have a primal scream with a populist, then end up voting for the establishment candidate. Remember that the ridiculous Michelle Bachmann was ahead in the Republican polls some years ago.

I have often wondered why the media is so fascinated by Winston Peters. He has never made any major insight into policy or delivered a major policy initiative (apart from the Gold Card bribe), and his impact on the political process has been wholly destructive. His laziness and rudeness as a Minister were well known (though only rude to staff – to foreign dignitaries he was sickeningly obsequious). He is small with an oversized head, and I have always found him to be nasty and at times trivially vindictive and comically obsessed with status, but remarkably uninformed about policy and indecisive. I have no idea why he gets any media attention.

Winston Peters initiated the Gold Card, but he doesn’t say that it costs the country ??? millions a year, much of which is oldies joyriding to and from Waiheke Island.

I can well believe that about the staff etc.

I’d rather vote for Donald Duck if I was American. At least he can open his mouth without being gross.DT sounds like a dirty old man, talking about sex and women in the way he does-at his age. He’s old enough to be the grandfather of the women he talks dirty about. Yuk.

Not sure about the ‘grandfather’ bit…….but certainly old enough to be Rosie O’Donnell’s big brother 🙂
