Social Media – Saturday

12 December 2015

Normal service has resumed.

Social Media Watch is an open forum similar to Open Forum where any topic can be introduced, but with a focus on New Zealand blogs and social media.

This expands on the aim for Your NZ to be a joint project with the more people contributing and the more variety the better.

A general guideline – post opinion on or excerpts from and links to blog posts or comments of interest, whether they are praise, criticism, pointing out issues or sharing useful information.

If being critical address the issues and don’t do personal abuse. Constructive and reasonably balanced criticism is more effective than general moans.

As usual avoid anything that could cause any legal issues such as potential defamation or breaching suppression orders.

Also remember that keeping things civil, legal and factual is more effective and harder to argue against or discredit.

Note that sometimes other blogs get irate if their material is highlighted elsewhere but the Internet is specifically designed to share and repeat information and anyone who comments or puts anything into a public forum should be aware that it could be republished elsewhere (but attribution is essential).

If comments raise issues deserving of a full post I may use content to do a post, and may expand on it.

  1. Journalist Dita De Boni commenting at Dim-Post on Paula Bennett:

Can she really be worse than that total buffoon Groser? There’s slim pickings for any portfolio requiring an understanding of important global issues and how New Zealand might adapt to the future.

How does she qualify for the title of journalist? A sacked columnist rather. Writing yet another hit piece as a cover for her own problems no doubt.

“I helped get rid of Hone Harawira, I think I might put together some people to get rid of Peter Dunne.”

      Who is being precious?

Buffoon is a good description of Dunne.

If I’m honest I did smile at the comments Kevin. Be interesting to see what happens in Ohariu next time (the electorate next door to my own – Wellington Central).

I’d read the article but hadn’t listened to the Lynch interview. I think Ministers need a ‘thick’ skin. But in this case I think Dunne should consider a BSA complaint.

I don’t know. I think he got a bit too upset; they should be able to handle something like that.

I think the Iraqi Kiwi I linked above got a bit too upset too. Hell, I have been strip searched at Auckland airport. It’s probably fair enough that they would have some sort of brief to question a few people in her circumstances. I just thought I should share it as I think it is good to keep in mind that some of them are just normal people.

Another post at WO with a hint of irony. CS has posted an article from the NBR on freedom of speech, and the shouting down of opposing voices. He has (naturally) managed to make it about him, and those that he says want to shut his blog down because it is an opposing voice.

There was this little bit near the end of the post:

“We see the campaigns continue to this day, with the beige badger stating that he thinks we’d be better off without this blog.”

    • I’m just writing a post about that. Full of hypocrisy and falsity.

Good. I am pretty sure I have seen you state that you would not want WO shut down.

It is imperative that he keeps it going as it is an ongoing reminder of things that are wrong.

It is like seeing a cockroach flipped over on its back, legs flailing around in the air, helplessly. Unable to live, unwilling to die.

I’m afraid the irony is too rich for my palate.

It’s about on a par with Marc Spring demanding YourNZ delete all references to him and his employer after he had posted a deluge of drivel anonymously here including the one and only reference to his employer.

Compost between the ears is the only possible diagnosis.
