Media watch – Friday

20 May 2016

Media Watch is an open forum similar to Open Forum where any topic can be introduced, but with a focus on New Zealand media, blogs and social media.

You can post any items of interested related to media.

A primary aim here is to hold media to account in the political arena. A credible and questioning media is an essential part of a healthy democracy.

A general guideline – post opinion on or excerpts from and links to blog posts or comments of interest, whether they are praise, criticism, pointing out issues or sharing useful information.

If being critical address the issues and don’t do personal abuse. Constructive and reasonably balanced criticism is more effective than general moans.

As usual avoid anything that could cause any legal issues such as potential defamation or breaching suppression orders.

Also remember that keeping things civil, legal and factual is more effective and harder to argue against or discredit.

Note that sometimes other blogs get irate if their material is highlighted elsewhere but the Internet is specifically designed to share and repeat information and anyone who comments or puts anything into a public forum should be aware that it could be republished elsewhere (but attribution is essential).

interesting…with the Parker -Takam fight looming. On the cailbre of the opposition they have faced I would put money on Takam.Parker at $1.20 and Takam at $4 seems like a very uneven market. If Parker loses the dream is over to all intents and purposes. The one huge payday is the aim of real contendors. The also rans settle for being professional losers, engaging in faux confidence displays and generating hype to ensure they get another payday. One punch is all it takes as even some of the very best will attest .

Blazer, too true. I want Parker to win. But I want him hurt and going at least 8 rounds. If he knocks Takam out in the early rounds he will go into a world championship fight underdone.
Like you say, one punch is all it takes and Parker could be the kid who nearly made it.

I see Colonel Bob Sheridan calls the fight in Parkers favour. I love the ole colonel. He leaves spent bullet casings in his pot plant holder near the front door. Just a friendly reminder to anyone who wants to steal his boxing memorabilia.

Kevin Barry deserves a big pay-day. He has kept a close eye on Parker during public meet and greets, having learnt form the Tua experience as to what happens when Samoans start pissing in their fellow countrymen’s ear.

Bob Jones yesterday: ” They rated a dead man once, for six months he rose in the rankings. He did better when he was dead than when he was alive…”
“When I was a boy I there were eight divisions and eight world champions. A couple of years ago I counted them up and there were 180 world champions….”

My hubby was given tickets to the ‘Big Fight’ tomorrow night.

He’s been backing JP since day dot – he always makes sure to get to the TAB as soon as the ‘Early-Bird’ betting opens. As Wayne said, “….no reason not to this time either” 😎

JP is @ $1.25 which makes it hardly worth the effort. Carlos is @ $3.70 which is a steal considering JP is the underdog on paper.

Sounds like you should get down there Hall, and steal some of that money. LOL!

Me, I’m more than happy to invest 10k for a guaranteed return of 25% overnight.

Don’t believe the hype around JP it’s all just hot air from his PR posse trying to promote the fight. Carlos will destroy JP, but hey it’s your money.

Could this mean Kim Dotcom is off the hook….??

Be honest, ….wouldn’t you prefer to have the jolly German stay here, rather than those Chinese drug dealers they arrested a few days ago……I mean, he throws fab parties and speaks English for a start ❤

  8. It’s funny following the Canon media awards in Twitter, there’s so many awards there’s enough to go round and journos in media clusters congratulating each other.
