Donald Trump’s week

It’s a big week for Donald Trump with his endorsement an expected formality at the end of the Republican convention being held in Cleveland, Ohio.

NBC News:

Welcome to Day One of the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. The city is set to welcome about 50,000 people for the week-long event that will end with the nomination of businessman Donald Trump according to the RNC, including 2,470 delegates, 2,302 alternate delegates.

Speakers for Monday include Melania Trump, wife of the presumptive GOP nominee, Ret. Lt. Gen Michael Flynn, former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton, Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, “Duck Dynasty” star Willie Robertson and actor Scott Baio.

Politics is done on a very large scale in the US. There will be a lot of media coverage, and it won’t all be positive for Trump but he has achieved a lot more than many had predicted not that long ago.

One bit of news going around yesterday was that Mike Pence was not Trumps choice as running mate but was pushed on him as the Republican Party tries to put a semblance of reasonableness on his campaign. Chris Christie and Newt Gingrich will be feeling a bit disappointed.

There are likely to be many mixed feelings at the convention.

The Trump machine has left a lot of people GOP smashed.

Apparently Republican luminaries don’t want to be seen within a hundred mile of Trump, hence his eclectic mix of conference speakers, including the head of a kickboxing federation.

However,Trump should do a little thinking ahead. It is quite possible, should he win the presidency, that he may inherit a country under Martial law

I was thinking that she looks like an ad for a brothel-the kind you see in the paper and that one doesn’t have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out is unlikely to be one of the staff. Does anyone know where to buy shares in silicone ? I would think that that would be a sure thing for making a nice yearly profit.

There used to be a matchmaking agency which matched men up with Russian women; there was always a photo of someone who looked like this in its newspaper ads. And may well still be, for all I know, There must have been enough fools who’d believe that this beauty was looking for a middle-aged, bald NZ man. My guess is that Maria from Moscow was a chain-smoking, vodka-swilling man named Boris with a huge puku, an old computer and a few photos that he kept recycling with different names and personae.

Corky, did you know that ‘cor blimey’ (or ;gorblimey’) was a corruption of ‘God blind me.’ ? I have never felt the same about saying it since I discovered that in case He does (!!!), and unlike the apocryphal origin of bloody as a swear word, this one is quite credible.

Re: the outfit. It was pretty chaste in the front (the puffy sleeves were an inspiration), but pretty short in the skirt department & rather tight & form-fitting around the botty at the back, didn’t you think? Not that I usually pay much attention to these things. o_O

She must’ve spoken for 10-15 minutes without a mistake, & without notes. Not bad for an amateur.

Actually, they’re not that easy for anyone, though it might not seem so,especially in front of a large audience. Reading aloud in public is harder than people who’ve never done it imagine.

The best way of not stumbling when reading aloud is to use the teacher’s trick. glance down, memorise a line or two, look up, say it, repeat the process. You only have to memorise for long enough to say it.

Which family does she mean ? His current one or all of them ? meeeeowwwww.

            • Gezza

               /  19th July 2016

She was looking straight ahead tho Kitty, & starry-eyed. Pretty sure she said that Donald’s loyalty to his family was one of things about him that she loved.

It’s still not entirely clear exactly how many billion others there might possibly be, of course. 😐

               /  19th July 2016

She must have practiced reading a teleprompter, then. I was really surprised to see that what I thought was a speech with no notes was on one of those, they are so inconspicuous. I can never see how they look clear on one side and not the other, unless one’s at the exact right angle on the other side. The memorising a line and glancing down thing would help here, too. I have just ‘read’ your post to the dog and only glanced at it once. Once a teacher, always a teacher.

               /  19th July 2016

Yep, I had to read from a teleprompter once and it was a nightmare. I could hardly see the words let alone read them. Hopefully they’ve improved and maybe the TV lights are not as horrendous.

  6. What if Trump wins? America the way you want it? Reshuffling deckchairs on the Titanic? Another mad assassination? Remember the Kennedy years? Did the Trident decision move the Doomsday clock closer to midnight or away? Who is more likely to deal with Trump? China, Russia, or the UK? What are we going to do with the flood of US migrants who choose NZ rather than Australia. When are we going to get some Air Defence in NZ. Perhaps we can do an arms for butter deal with Russia or China?

Key should have extracted some F16’s from Obama for putting our troops in harm’s and changing any Islamic terrorist target here from the US Embassy & Consulate to potentially the whole country.

Might get a better deal from the Russians or Chinese for some F/A capability but we’d still need to keep in good with the Ockers, which could be tricky …

  7. F16’s are obsolescent and can’t match the Russian and Chinese air defence aircraft. Missiles cover for air defence from Israel plus their Iron Umbrella. Or dig many very deep holes.

We wouldn’t have a shit show in air-to-air combat because we’d never have enough, but aren’t they still useful for precision ground attack / close air support? I think the F16’s still the top performer in that role.

Yes to missile defence, yes to sourcing from Israel, maybe, but what would they want in return? NZ passports?

It’s so nut case you really aren’t left with much other than sabotage (or drugs). Just got back today so just having a look at the first day. The management seems to have mucked the handling of dissenters. I agreed with the commentator who said convention needed some sort of ‘release valve’ for these people. Well they didn’t get it.

You are essentially right, Blazer. The only people who will care are Trump-haters anyway.

Most of the US MSM are virulently and incessantly anti-Trump and Clinton has outspent him 40:1. The result is that he is virtually tied with her and she is losing support rather than winning it. I think all that does is make the public see him as the under-dog and side with him against the unfair world.
