Media Watch is a focus on New Zealand media, blogs and social media. You can post any items of interested related to media.
A primary aim here is to hold media to account in the political arena. A credible and questioning media is an essential part of a healthy democracy.
A general guideline – post opinion on or excerpts from and links to blog posts or comments of interest, whether they are praise, criticism, pointing out issues or sharing useful information.
As usual avoid anything that could cause any legal issues such as potential defamation or breaching suppression orders. Also remember that keeping things civil, legal and factual is more effective and harder to argue against or discredit.
Sometimes other blogs get irate if their material is highlighted elsewhere but the Internet is specifically designed to share and repeat information and anyone who comments or puts anything into a public forum should be aware that it could be republished elsewhere (but attribution is essential).

/ 23rd July 2016Despite timing even a story the pro Hillary NYT can’t ignore.

They even linked to this. Maybe a short-lived duty editor?

/ 23rd July 2016The Standard is down. Again. And on a weekend where there is at least one big story of interest to New Zealanders.
I mean, what use is lprent if he can’t even keep the site up?
Delivering penis memes?
And don’t give me “he helps moderate the site.” Good god, even the other moderators tell him to pull his head in. If I was a member of the trust the runs the site I’d be looking at how to go about getting rid of him.

/ 23rd July 2016lprent warned in advance he was doing a major upgrade this weekend and there could be hiccups.
Gezza
/ 23rd July 2016Hiccups? It was often down when I used to visit there when I felt like seeing what haranguing looks like. If he doesn’t get his bloody act together he could end up losing his best commenters to WO & Kiwiblog. They don’t bother too much with TDB.

/ 23rd July 2016G, a big alpha pook will occasionally crank out a deep throated hiccup. Have you heard a hiccup from one of yours, or are they just the common old n’yips and squawks
Gezza
/ 23rd July 2016Yup, c. I let ‘im know who was in charge around my part of the stream bank. He got the message. It’s the three keeeeaaawwwh’s at night that amuse me. Always the same warning, always three times.
Pooky used to do that whenever he could see Lil’ Pook, Lily Pook & Mrs Pook rocking on up to my pad for some kai – but now the grumpy old tupper grudgingly joins them, eyes me up, keeps his distance, & is the first to slope off when all the crumbs are gone. Mum n the kids usually hang round for 5-10 minutes for English lessons & to chomp up a bit more of the Wandering Jew after I’ve told them no more-all gone.
Kevin
/ 24th July 2016He lost two of his best commentators when he banned Gormless and Hooton. The latter gave the site at least some semblance of credibility. Now who he has got left? John Key – hating former North Shore mayors?
Gezza
/ 24th July 2016BM & Gosman are still there fighting the good fight of going against the Party Line though. Possibly Alwyn – only looked @ a couple of posts.
You used to be able to pop a name in the ‘Search’ box & it would find all comments by that person. Doesn’t seem to do that now.
Pete George
/ 24th July 2016Search was broken by the upgrade.
Gezza
/ 24th July 2016Wonder if it will be repaired. Gormless was allowed back in as Oleolebiscuitbarrel when I was last a regular visitor, unless he’s copped another ban under that moniker now.
Kevin
/ 23rd July 2016There’s hiccups and then there’s the site being down the whole weekend. Sure, there’s Sunday to go but still.
