Social chat – Thursday

A post for social chat. You can still chat socially on other posts if it happens in relation to other discussions but if you simply want a bit of social chat start here.

The usual guidelines apply as to respecting others, behaviour and avoiding legal exposure. An emphasis on ‘social’, not ‘anti-social’.

A couple of significant dates have slipped under the radar slightly, but never fear, I am here to enlighten you all (if you weren’t already).

Last week, 15 September, was Battle of Britain day, a wreath was laid on behalf of RNZAF at the statue of Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park in London, and there was a wreath laying and service on Sunday by the main commonwealth nations to take part with the UK (NZ, Can, Aus, SA).

And then on Monday it was Camellia day – or Suffrage Day – marking the day that the NZ Governor signed the electoral act which gave NZ women the right to vote in General Elections.

All in all, two rather significant events that many today take for granted.

Thanks Missy for the reminder this story has been told to me a few times, as being the reason for the BOB
      Raymond Towers “Ray” Holmes
In June 1940 he joined No. 504 Squadron. On 15 September 1940, Sergeant Holmes was flying a Hawker Hurricane fighter when he spotted a damaged Dornier Do17 bomber of KG 76 apparently making a bombing attempt on central London.
Avoiding the bomber’s return fire, Holmes made a head-on attack on the Dornier, however upon firing discovered his machine guns failed. Holmes decided to ram the bomber hoping his plane could withstand the impact and cut through it. He cut the tail off the bomber with his wing, causing the bomber to crash near Victoria tube station. His Hurricane was badly damaged, crashing near the grounds of Buckingham Palace. Holmes bailed out injured but survived.

65 years later the road where he crashed was excavated and his control column was found …still jammed. WAMan eh

What he means is that he thinks that money can buy anything.

If that was so, no rich people would be found guilty of any crime.

If by ‘justice’, he means not being found guilty-why doesn’t he buy his way out of the charges and save all the hassle ?

Who does the money GO to ? The judge ? The Ministry of Justice ? The jury ?
