US popular vote

If the Green Party challenge is unsuccessful Donald Trump has won where it counts in the Electoral College, but the current vote tally has Clinton ahead by more than 2 million votes overall.

However Trump has the highest vote ever for a Republican candidate.

The current numbers:

  • Clinton 64,418,125 (48.1%)
  • Trump 62,314,184 (46.5%
  • Others 7,168,364 (5.4%)

Politico reports on the possible challenge:

Among the potential steps to challenge the results on Wednesday was an announcement from Stein, often a strident Clinton critic, that she would seek to challenge the results in all three of the states if she raised the $2 million necessary to do so.

Pennsylvania and Wisconsin are traditionally Democrats states that fell into Trump’s column on Nov. 8, and Michigan’s story is similar, though it has yet to be officially called for Trump.

As of Thursday morning, Stein’s campaign had raised at least $2.5 million, according to multiple news reports.

But even if Stein were to raise enough money for the challenge before the states’ looming deadlines, it’s still a stretch: Clinton would need to win all three states in order to flip the Electoral College vote.

Stein’s call came shortly after the report that the group of experts had told Podesta and Elias they saw evidence that Clinton received 7 percent fewer votes in Wisconsin counties that used electronic machines instead of paper ballots or optical scanners.

I think that Clinton is only about 70,000 votes short but would have to reverse the result in all three states to win the presidency. I think it ain’t going to happen.

There’s also talk that some of the Electoral Votes may be cast contrary to the state results but it would take quite a few to swap sides. And it would create an uproar, and potentially a political crisis.

Less of course the 3 million ‘illegals’ that voted for Hillary ❗

‘Hillary Shillery sat on a wall
Hillary Shillery had a great fall
    All of her donors
    And bent media friends
    Couldn’t put Hill’ry together again’

The illegal immigrants wouldn’t be voting. I wonder how the number of these people is known.

I would guess that that is fake news-there has been a scandalous amount of it. Some credible, some not. The Pope being openly on the side of any candidate should have been obviously a fake. The young Macedonian (?) lads who are putting it out must be fed the stories, it’s not credible that they just happen to be almost exclusively one-sided. I wonder who gave them the stories.

  3. Seriously, I do not want to contemplate the destruction that would follow Trump being outed. I note that it is a Green-Democrat coalition talking about a recount. Even having a recount will be fraught with intimidation. Meanwhile, what is Putin doing? Positioning strategic missiles in the island chain pointing at Japan, nuclear tipped missiles and anti-missile defences deployed in the Baltic, thumbing his nose at NATO and the UK while deploying the largest operational fleet into the Mediterranean. Watch out Estonia and the former Soviet states, Putin is hungry for dominance and wishes to regain “super-power status”.

I wouldn’t be too worried about Vladimir at the moment. He’s only doing what the Americans are doing. Trumpy’s all about getting dominance in the areas he’s interested and in maintaining super-power status, by increasing military capacity so no-one will dare threaten US interests. So far he seems reasonably warmly disposed to Vladimir and perhaps inclined to see him as a kindred spirit in some ways? It’s not like he’s a communist. Trumpy might not be quite so fond of our Johnny Boy being so pally with Xi’s folk, but on the other hand, he might not care.

      • That is a fairly rosey picture you paint Gezza, would that it be true! Time will tell, remember Putin has only just moved into the area claimed by Japan, ie post-Trump result being known. Not a conciliatory action by the Bear, and Japan is now facing threats on two fronts both of which having access to exterior lines of communication. Not a healthy strategic situation for Japan.

Who knows? Trumpy may yet turn out to be a great peacemaker? He might just sit down a have a chat with Putesy & sort out who’s allowed to have what weapons over a cup of coffee and a biscuit? The Donald could supply the coffee (Trump Brand), and The Vladimir could supply the biscuit (Putin Brand)?

G, I’m inclined to agree. He’s already signalled he is not interested in trade deals at america’s expense. So what have we got that might entice him to pick up the phone? Kauri Cliffs?

There is also talk of his business interest being unconstitutional in that some of his dealings would count as an “emolument from any king, prince, or foreign state”, and would therefore make him impeachable as soon as he swears to office.

His ever-loving family say that he wouldn’t be taking an active role, but their word isn’t enough in this situation-nobody’s would be. No reflection on them, that’s just the way it is.
