Hijacker still a risk

Convicted hijacker Asha Abdille has almost finished her sentence but is still seen as a risk – not surprising given that she has threatened to do it again.

Stuff: NZ plane hijacker threatens repeat action

The country’s only convicted plane hijacker has almost completed her prison sentence and is threatening to hijack another aircraft if she gets the chance.

Asha Abdille stabbed both pilots on an Air New Zealand flight from Blenheim to Christchurch in February 2008. One passenger was injured in the incident.

The Somali refugee took knives onto the 19-seater plane, which was forced to make an emergency landing.

Abdille was sentenced to nine years in prison, and her sentence expires on 7 February.

She is currently held in a psychiatric unit in the Wellington region, but refused to attend her final Parole Board hearing in early December. A written summary of the hearing, obtained by RNZ, said Abdille was still classified as high risk and has “said that she will attempt to hijack another plane and has threatened to set herself on fire”.

She is unlikely to get anywhere near an aircraft, especially not any commercial flights, but she is an obvious risk to herself.

Not surprisingly:

It is understood Abdille, who is currently regarded as a special patient, will transfer into the mental health system on a compulsory treatment order (CTO) when her sentence ends next month.

It sounds like that is appropriate. Serious mental health problems are difficult for those suffering from them and can be very hard to deal with safely.

Something that’s very inappropriate is this reaction:

slateronmentalhealthpatient

For someone how claims to know about mental health issues from experience, and someone who has claimed there were attempts to coerce him to suicide, this is disgraceful from Slater, as are the added comments from his Whale Oil off siders. All three of them are very off side on this.

    Are you surprised?
Standard form for the coward of Arkles bay.
His attempts to get the Israeli government to shout him another Middle East junket have really stepped up in the recent weeks.
But he still hides his anti muslin nonsense behind his wife’s name.
Can’t imagine Israel is inclined to shout him another trip though.
I expect this mental woman will feature in a post this morning after his second breakfast.

  3. Quite right, Pete, Slater (no relation, I hasten to add) is unduly vengeful.

She is, after all, following Allah’s will, as He instructs His followers, “O believers, fight the unbelievers who are near to you; and let them find in you a harshness; and know that Allah is with the godfearing.” (Koran 9:123)

Asha Abdille is a pure, devout and practising Muslim. She should be left alone, along with all other Muslims, to do her duty to bring the world into submission to the will of Allah, inshallah.

    • She has fairly severe mental health issues. Trying to swing that onto your anti-Muslim crusade could be a tad vengeful as well.

      • Anti-Islam crusade, Pete, an important, though subtle for some, difference.

Others are doing it for me, Pete, and not just Freud who held that religion is nothing more than an illusion, or even a mental illness. Or the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH) study indicates that social integration for Muslimas gives an increased risk for mental problems.

Jihad attacks are routinely dismissed as mental illness. Authorities and the commentariat will seize on any hint of mental instability to explain Muslims violent attacks, because that is how we in the West wish to explain our own violent offenders. Sydney’s Lindt Café jihadi was a typical case, and you will find similar false analyses on all the others.

Listen to truth-tellers like Brown, Pete, “Islam gives … licence to do stupid stuff.” When you become aware that Islam’s haram/halal and rule-based morality shares NOTHING, repeat – NOTHING, with our Judeo-Christian Greco-Roman-based evolutionary ethical morality, you will understand this.

        Reply
        • Are you suggesting that the Abdille hijacking 9 years ago was a Jihad attack?

If you categorise it as such then will you also condemn people with mental health problems who claim to be following God’s will?

When someone such as yourself seems to have such a narrow obsession with Islam and attribute all problems no matter how tenuous the link as part of one religious aim, and you never criticise anything outside this narrow obsession, then it certainly looks like a crusade to me.

          Reply
          • I’m not denying that by Western health standards she is defined as mentally ill. However, her actions were definitively those of a jihadi, and her mental health condition simply explained her gross incompetence.

And be careful in describing me as having a “narrow obsession’ with Islam. The West has entered an era of epochal transition, from the aforementioned Judeo-Christian Greco-Roman heritage to one of Islamic hegemony. It will be the defining feature of 21st century history, mark my words. You may not think this important, but Muslims do and they, the conservative ones, that is, are driving the agenda. With, I must add, the very necessary assistance of those of an ideological persuasion that wishes to see the demise of Western civilisation and the capitalist system.

My crusade, such as it is, is not simply to try to warn and explain it to those who are unaware. It is to understand the role that the control of discourse plays in the West’s defeat. You, like so many others in the NZ media, are playing your part, Pete, whether through blind ignorance, fellow traveller, fifth-columnist, useful idiot, or crypto-Islamic adept.

            • “However, her actions were definitively those of a jihadi”

This doesn’t do your credibility any good.

‘Western civilisation’ has improved far more than most Islamic dominated countries and is far more likely to self destruct rather than become dominated by an ideology that damages it’s own far more than anyone else.

            • I agree, Western civilisation is more likely to self-destruct, but what is causing this? I would suggest that neo-Marxism’s extremely effective process of moral and cultural relativism and the resulting cultural repudiation, the diminution of a collective identity, the erosion of innate and proto-human values, fallout from the peace dividend and so many other factors essential to a thriving state, have left us in the West extremely vulnerable. When a coherent, cohesive, and supremacist ideology, supported by fourteen centuries of refinement of its strategies of war, migration and preaching, wants to take over a spiritually-weakened area like Europe, defeat becomes inevitable.

As to your comment, “an ideology that damages it’s [sic] own far more than anyone else,” this can be easily explained with an understanding of Islam’s theology, something you definitely need to bone up on.

While she remains a genuine risk she should stay there.

“It is understood Abdille, who is currently regarded as a special patient, will transfer into the mental health system on a compulsory treatment order (CTO) when her sentence ends next month.”

“In December, the four-member panel set release conditions for Abdille, but they can only apply for six months after her sentence end date of February 7. Corrections would only say it “will manage this offender according to her conditions”.

Abdille’s case will not go before the Parole Board again. Her lawyer, Judith Fyfe, had no immediate comment on the December ruling or the path ahead for the convicted hijacker.”

Not sure, because of those statements. Compulsory Treatment Order doesn’t equal Permanently Detained, Alan?

A friend of mine had a hellish upbringing under the care of a now-dead paranoid schizophrenic mother who would go off her medication all the time, & who she still hates. And two former neighbours had their son shot dead by Stephen Anderson at the Raurimu Massacre, another paranoid schizophrenic who did the same.”

It’s that difficulty of supervising people like this in the community that concerns me. I also remember another case of another paranoid schizophrenic off his meds who just out of the blue suddenly started ranting and stabbed an innocent pedestrian to death in front of horrified passers-by on Lambton Quay years back.

If out she mayl come under the care of a radical cleric who will use her condition to make her do something for the cause.

Muslims aren’t killing 20,000 plus a year because they misinterpret it. This lady really is nuts but most of the radicals and their moderate supporters are not in the sense she is.

But the Koran doesn’t fall into that category since it is the actual words of Allah as spoken to His apostle Muhammad then dictated by him to scribes since he was illiterate. Muslims don’t simply believe this. They KNOW this to be true, it’s what being a Muslim means. Allah makes it absolutely explicit that violence is considered a necessity in pursuance of Islam’s objectives, mainly, bringing infidels – you and me, Pete – into submission to His will. Or die.

My niece in the US retweeted this questionnaire….

            • More classic commentary from KB! But I’ve gone off calling myself an Islamophobe since Andrew Cummins tweeted his definition, “a word created by fascists and used by cowards to manipulate morons.”

              Call me an Islamorealist . . .

            • More like an Islamobsessive.

The world has survived thousands of predictions of impending doom.

            • I’m not predicting doom. I’m predicting a trend towards the chaos we see in the Middle East and a low-level civil war in Europe – a steady escalation of the present jihadi violence we’re seeing right now, as Islam enforces its 7th century morality.

            • You’ve suggested more than that, including for New Zealand.

Someone could claim that all Catholics are sleepers waiting for an opportunity to force the Government to introduce the Inquisition here, and I don’t think you could prove that is wrong.

            • But the Bible doesn’t fall into that category since it is the actual words of God as spoken to His apostle Moses then dictated by him to scribes since he was illiterate. God makes it absolutely explicit that violence is considered a necessity in pursuance of his religion’s objectives, mainly, bringing infidels into submission to His will. Or die.

The only difference between religions is how long it takes for their violent intolerance to be seen as a fraud.

            • You’re talking nonsense, Pete. Biblical authorship may be attributed to God’s inspiration of its authors, but no serious scholar consider them the literal words of God. There’s no shortage, I’m sure, of divine intermediaries who deserved the same care, consideration and confinement that Asha Abdille needs.

Incidentally, there is one very important difference between Biblical and Koranic violence – the former is descriptive, the latter prescriptive.

            • “the former is descriptive, the latter prescriptive”

              Like you’re prescriptive about Islam?

It depends on who is trying to use either, and for what.

Hey thanks Kit ❗ I texted my niece with your ‘classic commentary’ response, to show her how much people appreciate it down here.

For some reason she just replied, ‘WOT AN A-HOLE’

              :/

            • Klik Bate – It seems I’ve unwittingly offended your niece, given her indecorous response, which left me thinking that ‘Islamophobic’ may have changed its significance. The Cummins tweet (it was retweeted by Christopher Hitchens and is sometimes credited to him) doesn’t refer to to those who self-identify as ‘Islamophobic’ as per your niece’s questionnaire, since it was aimed at the Islamophobia Studies industry and those who wished to shut down any debate about Islam by insulting its critics. But the word’s meaning may have shifted, in the way that ‘pigs’ was adopted by US police in the 60s and 70s to desensitise them from protester insults. In the same manner, homosexuals adopted the word ‘queer’ to remove its stigma, which correlates neatly with ‘Islamophobia’ given the following information dating from 2010:

“Abdur-Rahman Muhammad, a former member of the International Institute for Islamic Thought (IIIT) who has renounced the group in disgust, was an eyewitness to the creation of the word. “This loathsome term Islamophobia,” he writes, “is nothing more than a thought-terminating cliché (psychologist Robert Jay Lifton) conceived in the bowels of Muslim think tanks for the purpose of beating down critics”… Muhammad describes the strategy behind the word’s invention: “In an effort to silence critics of political Islam, advocates needed to come up with terminology that would enable them to portray themselves as victims. Muhammad said he was present when his then-allies, meeting at the offices of the IIIT in Northern Virginia years ago, coined the term ‘Islamophobia’.” Muhammad said the Islamists decided to emulate the homosexual activists who used the term “homophobia” to silence critics. He said the group meeting at IIIT saw “Islamophobia” as a way to “beat up their critics.” Muslims use the neologism ‘Islamophobia’ to imply any critic of Islam is mentally ill, rather than tell us openly and honestly, ‘Sharia law commands Muslims to treat you violently if you criticize Islam’.”

So perhaps the term “Islamophobia” and its derivatives may have migrated from a disingenuous term used to fund endless conferences and doctoral theses while dismissing anyone thinks Islam is perhaps NOT the answer after all, into a badge of pride signifying that one is an independent thinker not afraid to tackle Islam head-on. Good thing, too, but this isn’t a change I was aware of.

Perhaps your niece can confirm that that is what has happened in the US, otherwise, short of failing to understand the significance of the tweet, why might she have felt affronted by my comment?

Let’s examine. Presumably the antitheses of these things leads to a “thriving”, strong and secure state?

Therefore, such a state will have moral and cultural absolutism and its concommitant “cultural approval” and confirmation … an expansive or enlarged collective identity … preserved and bolstered “innate and proto-human values” – mere wordplay – This is like saying nothing at all, it means inherent human values and prehuman values … Really! Like what? Christianity’s “Love Thy Neighbour”? Kant’s “Do unto others” categorical imperative – and finally fallout from an active “war dividend” [thereby negating both the world’s greatest prophet and philosopher in one fell swoop] …

Gosh … a muscular, flourishing and secure ‘neoliberal capitalist’ Western civilisation is beginning to look exactly like “a coherent, cohesive, and supremacist ideology, supported by fourteen centuries of refinement of its strategies of war, migration and preaching, [that] wants to take over …. the entire world … if it hasn’t already?

I have the solution. Internationally, close borders and have separate ethnic ‘spheres’ of the world, Judeo-Christian, Graeco-Roman ‘Western’, Orthodox post-Soviet ‘Eastern’ (European), Oriental, Muslim etc …

At home … allow separate Maori and Pakeha ‘spheres’ within Aotearoa New Zealand? We’d surely be required to do this to uphold our own Western ‘values’?

    • Gosh, PartisanZ, I’d not realised you were such an idealist! But such things don’t work back-assward.

The point about neo-Marxism is that it represents a trend AWAY from a period of greater collective identity, “separate ethnic ‘spheres’ of the world” etc., what economists refer to as the Golden Age of Economics, the period 1945 – 1971. (UK economist Ann Pettifor, interviewed on Nine-to-Noon, 21/9/16.) This arose out of the failure of the working class to get behind Marxist utopianism. All they wanted was better pay and conditions and once achieved, the extreme Left had nothing to offer them.

William Lind described the origins of cultural (or neo-) Marxism as follows: “Following World War I, European Marxists faced a difficult question: why did the proletariat throughout Europe not rise in revolution and establish a new, Marxist order, as their ideology said it would? Two prominent Marxist thinkers, Antonio Gramsci in Italy and Georg Lukács in Hungary, came up with an answer: Western culture. Western culture so blinded the workers to their true, “class” interests that they could not act on them. So before socialism could come to power, Western culture had to be destroyed. Lukacs in 1919 posed the question, “Who will save us from Western civilization?”” This goal, of “saving” us by destroying the villain, Western civilization, was pursued through a multi-pronged attack. This was dubbed, by Marxist activist Rudi Dutschke, “the long march through the institutions.”

Check out the source material for the above paragraph here:

Dutschke was probably the most effective influence on the modern world. See his Wikipedia entry here:

The question that must be asked of any such widespread conspiracy theory is “Where are whistle blowers”? When was the last time someone revealed to Metro or Woman’s Weekly that they had been trained from birth to infiltrate the Ministry of Social Development as a Communist Sleeper Agent aka Social Justice Warrior … awaiting the signal to finally “lock and load” and take that drastic action …. like go down the road to the newly opened New Cafe next door to the Old Cafe across the road from the Other Cafe for a real Latte rather than have Gregg’s Instant in the lunch room …

        • Subtlety, insight, knowledge, information, observation, analysis and intelligent debate are looking like a lost cause here, perhaps because it’s seriously off-topic. But in case anyone is actually understanding what’s going on or even cares, here’s a few examples of Dutschke’s process:

“Unfortunately, because of the failure of American colleges and universities to seek and support ideological diversity on their campuses, the humanities faculties have trended so far toward liberal Democrats (among whom I number myself) that they often seem naively unaware that any other beliefs are possible or credible. A tragic result of the era of identity politics in the humanities has been the collapse of rigorous scholarly standards, as well as an end to the high value once accorded to erudition, which no longer exists as a desirable or even possible attribute in job searches for new faculty.” Camille Paglia

For American psychologists, a survey reported that the Left to Right ratio reaches 36:1, presidential preference 76:1, and politically orientated policy items 314:1. “An academic field that leans left (or right) can still function, as long as ideological claims or politically motivated research is sure to be challenged. But when a field goes from leaning left to being entirely on the left, the normal safeguards of peer review and institutionalised disconfirmation break down. Research on politically controversial topics becomes unreliable because politically favoured conclusions receive less-than-normal scrutiny while politically incorrect findings must scale mountains of motivated and hostile reasoning from reviewers and editors.” http://heterodoxacademy.org/2016/01/07/new-study-finds-conservative-social-psychologists/.

An opinion piece from Philip Carl Salzman, professor of anthropology at McGill University: “The one place that Marxism has succeeded is in conquering academia in Europe and North America. Marxism-Leninism is now the dominant model of history and society being taught in Western universities and colleges.” http://www.meforum.org/5781/marxism-academia

If one thinks about it a little longer though, it is the only option. Deporting her back to the third world shit-hole she came from might seem like a good idea, but in reality, it would be terribly irresponsible to do so. She has stated that she would hijack a plane again, if given the chance, and she is far more likely to get the chance if deported. If you live among wolves you have to act like a wolf – Nikita Khrushchev

“With savages, the weak in body or mind are soon eliminated; and those that survive commonly exhibit a vigorous state of health. We civilised men, on the other hand, do our utmost to check the process of elimination; we build asylums for the imbecile, the maimed, and the sick; we institute poor-laws; and our medical men exert their utmost skill to save the life of every one to the last moment. There is reason to believe that vaccination has preserved thousands, who from a weak constitution would formerly have succumbed to small-pox. Thus the weak members of civilised societies propagate their kind. No one who has attended to the breeding of domestic animals will doubt that this must be highly injurious to the race of man. It is surprising how soon a want of care, or care wrongly directed, leads to the degeneration of a domestic race; but excepting in the case of man himself, hardly any one is so ignorant as to allow his worst animals to breed.

The aid which we feel impelled to give to the helpless is mainly an incidental result of the instinct of sympathy, which was originally acquired as part of the social instincts, but subsequently rendered, in the manner previously indicated, more tender and more widely diffused. Nor could we check our sympathy, if so urged by hard reason, without deterioration in the noblest part of our nature. The surgeon may harden himself whilst performing an operation, for he knows that he is acting for the good of his patient; but if we were intentionally to neglect the weak and helpless, it could only be for a contingent benefit, with a certain and great present evil. Hence we must bear without complaining the undoubtedly bad effects of the weak surviving and propagating their kind; but there appears to be at least one check in steady action, namely the weaker and inferior members of society not marrying so freely as the sound; and this check might be indefinitely increased, though this is more to be hoped for than expected, by the weak in body or mind refraining from marriage.”
