This time of the year sees many people embarking on good habits (most don’t last the month), some of which will include a cleanse or detox – usually a juice cleanse. Well, one company in the US has gone one step further with a ‘Complicity Cleanse’ – it has been described as an anti-oppression cleanse, and runs from Jan 1 to Jan 21.

The website describes the cleanse in this way: “The Complicity Cleanse uses the format of a 21-day cleanse to begin the lifelong work of reducing our complicity in the triumph of patriarchy, sexism, xenophobia, heterosexism, racism, classism and the victory lap of conservatism.’

    https://www.complicitycleanse.com

More interesting is the ‘who is it for page’, I am not going to go through the list – it is a who is who of identity politics pretty much, but the page is here: https://www.complicitycleanse.com/who-is-this-for/

To be honest I am not sure if this is serious, or someone doing one big piss take. But it is entertaining to read about who it is for.

I don’t know how much YNZers know about History, but those that do will be aware that about 1800 years ago what is now Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales) was involved in a civil war between the Roman Emperor Septimus Severus and the Caledonian Tribes in the North.

Well, what most of you may not know is that at around the same time something momentus was happening that would not be known for 1800 years, and the result of which will not be seen until 2022.

At the time the Romans were fighting the Caledonians on land, in a far off universe two stars were colliding in a cataclysmic explosion, the light from which will be seen in the sky above earth in 2022, creating a new star.

Amazing stuff, something that happened almost 2 millennia ago will finally be seen by us.

I see the phantom downtick is at it again. As well as being sad and lonely with no joy – and not wanting others to have any joy – I would say that individual is also a coward, they can never engage as to what they find objectionable about everyone’s posts, just downtick and run.

Whoever it is, if you have the guts, please do explain what is objectionable about the following:

    1. a anti-oppression cleanse
    2. a new star being born – albeit 1800 years ago
    3. Wellington Sport
    4. Whatever it is Gezza was on about a couple of posts up. 😉

    Thank you.

Well, not so many were interested in nursing when I was chasing skirt, they already all wanted to be engineers, computer programmers, doctors & lawyers. They’d pretty soon write you off as defective when they saw that gig.

We’ve only had one nurse who posted here for a while haven’t we – good ol’ Nell. She was a bit of a bogan. Might’ve worked on her – shooting himself in the feet every duck-shooting season seems to have worked for Wayne?

A question that maybe some dog owners will be able to answer,
When they say dogs food is new and improved, Who tastes it?
it really does do my head in to think of a dog speaking or a human tasting dog food.

    Reply
    • A very good question Possum!

What is the equivalent to wine’s “soft and approachable”, “young and fresh” or “fruity flavours” in dog or cat food?

Arguably this thing we call “marketing” is metaphorically both, dogs speaking and humans eating dog food … The dogs of corporate warfare …

I expect they do trials and when a random sample of ‘pets’ show a ‘guided preference’ for the higher salt, higher sugar version of Jellied Offal, this becomes “New and Improved Beef, Lamb, Ocean Fish and Chicken Stew”!!!

After all … it works on humans!

Simple test posser. Is it raw meat, bone and gristle? If not you can be assured it may be new but is certainly not improved. Unless the dog in question is one of these manufactured micro-breeds that no longer resembles it’s canine ancestors. Cheers,c

Ours prefer human left-overs. I think they were genetically evolved to live under the dining table waiting for scraps to fall. Dog food is for the deprived.

We diverged from our common ancestor 60 million years ago Al. Don’t assume what is good for you is good for your dog. Dog healthy is not human healthy. Gut microflora, metabolism and digestive systems are radically different.

Dogs evolved from wolves specifically to live with humans. For most of that time there has been no tins of Jellimeat.

I’d have to agree about dogs being inside C. It is a privilege, not a right. When we had a dog, it knew it’s place. He was fed well, but the humans ate first. He enjoyed the scraps far more than his biscuits…

He also was clever enough to know that when it was cold outside, he should just hide under the couch. My ataahua wahine would come out in the ‘wee hours’ and ask me “Is that bloody mutt outside!”. And I would say “I think so dear, I havent seen him recently…”. Half

  11. I suppose Yates Garden Guide will someday be replaced by a Monsanto Grow’n’Spray Regime App (or some such).

By rights it should be a much shorter read, with most entries following a standard formula –

    – Plant bird, insect and animal pest repellent Monsanto seed.
    – After germination spray at various prescribed intervals with combined Plant Food & Roundup [or set your automatic sprinkler spray?].
    – Wait 7 days after final spray. Harvest and eat.
    – See doctor if symptoms persist.
