MediaWatch

Media Watch is a focus on New Zealand media, blogs and social media. You can post any items of interested related to media.

A primary aim here is to hold media to account in the political arena. A credible and questioning media is an essential part of a healthy democracy.

A general guideline – post opinion on or excerpts from and links to blog posts or comments of interest, whether they are praise, criticism, pointing out issues or sharing useful information.

As usual avoid anything that could cause any legal issues such as potential defamation or breaching suppression orders. Also remember that keeping things civil, legal and factual is more effective and harder to argue against or discredit.

Sometimes other blogs get irate if their material is highlighted elsewhere but the Internet is specifically designed to share and repeat information and anyone who comments or puts anything into a public forum should be aware that it could be republished elsewhere (but please include attribution).

I wonder how much he paid for a tattoo of Patrick Gower, that doesn’t look anything like Patrick Gower, I thought it was Kirk Douglas:(

It’s a photo-realistic tattoo of the ventriloquist dummy that the guy uses to talk himself to sleep at night. …Or so I heard.

I see what you mean Maureen. That cleft chin is too overdone. Also the choppers are quite right. Early psychiatric intervention might be warranted, before this chap does any more appalling self-mutilation.

          * aren’t quite right. I probably shouldn’t post so early in the mornings. The error rate in the proof-reading is appalling.

Your trouble is you’re too critical.

The genius is the free tattoo, and the free marketing.
The (sub) is the tattoo looks like shit.

              Yeah, probably not.
I’m going to get an ISIS dude on a unicorn who’s charging headlong into Donald Trump, who is wearing a clown outfit and riding an ornamental horse. …or not.

This Wikileaks tweet is for those outraged by Trump’s Immigration stance.

Killing hundreds of thousands of Muslims & destroying their states? OK. Stopping them going to the US? Not OK. https://t.co/qmxF4ialAQ— WikiLeaks (@wikileaks) January 30, 2017

That was yesterday. We’ve been through that. The conclusion that he comes to (or is taken to) about “Obama’s LIst” is a little disingenuous.

That is only one point – there are several more.

A highly radical suggestion: Return some science into climate reporting.

    Nah, that’ll never fly.

From that article: “NOAA fixed the 2016 increase at 0.04 degrees Celsius. The British Met Office reported an even lower rise, of 0.01C. Both increases are well within the margin of error for such calculations, approximately 0.1 degrees, and therefore are dismissed by many scientists as meaningless”.

      https://atlasmonitor.wordpress.com/2016/11/29/record-drop-in-global-temperatures-as-el-nino-warming-ends/

“Global average temperatures over land have plummeted by more than 1C since the middle of this year – their biggest and steepest fall on record. According to satellite data, the late 2016 temperatures are returning to the levels they were at after the 1998 El Nino”.

“Dr. Peter Stott (UK Met Office) on 2015 warm record: “The main reason that we have such warm temperatures is actually human-induced climate change. That’s the main factor. And then El Niño contributes a small amount on top.”

Dr Schmidt also denied that there was any ‘pause’ or ‘hiatus’ in global warming between the 1998 and 2015 El Ninos.

But on its website home page yesterday, Nasa featured a new study which said there was a hiatus in global warming before the recent El Nino, and discussed why this was so. Last night Dr Schmidt had not returned a request for comment”.

Other experts have also disputed Dr Schmidt’s claims. Professor Judith Curry, of the Georgia Institute of Technology, and president of the Climate Forecast Applications Network, said yesterday: The record warm years of 2015 and 2016 were primarily caused by the super El Nino.’

The slowdown in warming was, she added, real, and all the evidence suggested that since 1998, the rate of global warming has been much slower than predicted by computer models – about 1C per century.

  4. I saw on AlJz that there are calls for the Philippines full-scale DRUG WAR to be suspended, until inquiries, into the people who are acting ‘for authority’ in this matter, are completed.

It seems many of these ‘law enforcement officers’ are just ‘hired guns’ & most are convicted crims/murderers etc. 😦

Pres. Duterte being the ‘Thug-supremo’ !!

I believe his definition excludes any who might be current presidents of the Philippines.
