  1. More Trump tsunamis in the wider world. The Telegraph says “Trump is right!”.

“Germany is running an illegal currency racket”.

“EU law is clear, or should be. Persistent surpluses (three years in a row) above 6pc of GDP are illegal. Germany is not even close to compliance, and the picture has been getting worse, not better. This violation is a much bigger threat to the long-term viability of monetary union than the trivial budget infringements by minnow states – so fiercely condemned by the European Commission.

Yet nothing is ever done about it. Germany flouts the law with impunity, even as it lectures others on the rule of law. It is this double standard that feeds a pervasive sense of cynicism about the European Project.”

Trump is right about Germany. Ethically, morally, fiscally Merkel and her band of merry menschen are EUROPE and everything about that union ultimately benefits Germany. They’re too clever for the rest of that lot, who yield to their illegal carry-on.

“Germany has a strategic choice to make. It must either face up to the full implications of monetary union – a fiscal merger, shared debt, a (genuine) banking union, and an internal economic revolution to slash the surplus – or carry out an orderly withdrawal from the euro and revalue so that others can breathe again. What it cannot do is persist with the current racket.

A belligerent administration in Washington entirely changes the strategic contours of monetary union. For years the US helped to prop up the euro. Italy’s ex-premier Mario Monti told me that Barack Obama played a crucial role in the white heat of the EMU debt-crisis, intervening behind the scenes in June 2012 to force a U-turn in German policy.

Now we have a White House that deems monetary union to be a German mercantilist tool and a systemic threat to America’s commercial interests. Donald Trump openly desires a break-up of the euro. Does that matter? We will find out.”

Deporting citizens from a country seems quite a lot more fascist than banning immigrants from a small number of countries for a short period of time..

Perhaps they could use cattle cars for the deportations to strike exactly the right tone.

Some interesting interpretations of what’s happening in the Divided State of America…

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-michael-moore-coup-us-steve-bannon-sally-yates-rule-of-law-a7554556.html

    View story at Medium.com

Britannica defines a coup as “the sudden, violent overthrow of an existing government by a small group”. It differs from a revolution in that it happens quickly and doesn’t depend on large numbers of people – instead, it requires only “a change in power from the top that merely results in the abrupt replacement of leading government personnel”.

So does a coup require violence to be a coup? Evidently not…or at least not so far…

Zunger’s piece is particularly interesting for its expose on the extent of the purge in the State Department

and on the murk surrounding the sale of 19.5% of Rosneft, Russia’s state oil company to parties unknown just a few days ago

The Independent is a pathetic joke with its stream of Lefty anti-Trump articles. Yates made a ridiculous political posture that rightly got chopped off at her knees. Good riddance.

More hysterical nonsense spread by the butt-sore Hollywood elite who feel their poor acting skills translate in being authorities on politics and upholders of all that is right and decent.

At least they can take comfort in the fact Hillary won the popular vote – the equivalent of losing a game of tennis in sets (as the rules of the game clearly dictate) but winning the most games overall.

That you consider Michael Moore both ‘the Hollywood Elite” and an “Actor” shows just how poor your observational skills are.

        This comment is a fail.

So we’ve got a documentary maker and an Author, these are the facts, the rest is your prejudices. Bear in mind also that you’re talking about a throwaway sentence that’s attached to the fact that a google engineer wrote a similar piece.
            Still no hollywood elite.

What is an election, other than a coup by another name?

      • Kitty Catkin

         /  February 2, 2017

If you have to ask the question, you wouldn’t understand the answer.

I sincerely hope-for your sake-that this is a heavy-handed attempt at satire and not a real question.

        • David

           /  February 2, 2017

It’s not satire in Moore’s mind though is it? There has been a change in government. The losing side is in deep denial about this, that is why we are seeing everything from claims of Russian influence to ‘its a coup!’.

          • Kitty Catkin

             /  February 2, 2017

Some people still can’t see that it’s not a question of the losing side not being able to accept this. These protests don’r seem to happen at every election and someone loses each time. What the protests are about is the appalling, unjust things that are happening and the Ugly American with his foul mouth who has somehow got into the White House.

“What the protests are about is the appalling, unjust things that are happening ”

I don’t see anything either appalling, nor unjust.

“the Ugly American with his foul mouth who has somehow got into the White House.”

              Somehow? He got elected;

            • Kitty Catkin

               /  February 2, 2017

Well, if you see nothing unjust about citizens not being lt back in to the country for which they risked their lives as translators, so be it.

Somehow is the right word-it’s a mystery that this clod was elected. It says something that 3,000,000 more didn’t want him than did. This is th narcissist of narcissists. He can’t tell truth from fiction, he can’t take the slightest criticism, he talks about women in a crude and offensive way. He expresses disgust at women’s bodily functions; Hillary Clinton going to the loo was repeatedly called ‘disgusting’ with revolted grimaces. He made crude remarks about a woman supposedly having her period. He’s a liar and a bully. Why any sane person would vote for him is a mystery.

            • David

“Well, if you see nothing unjust about citizens not being lt back in to the country for which they risked their lives as translators, so be it.”

US citizens not being let back into the country? That has not happened, and Trump has no way of making that happen. Fake news! Sad!

“Why any sane person would vote for him is a mystery.”

No it’s not. The people who voted for him believed he would do better things for their lives than the other option.

            • Kitty Catkin

               /  February 3, 2017

It was not fake news. People with green cards were being held, and even Trump said so.

Well, anyone who believed that he wanted to make their lives better must be an idiot.

            • David

               /  February 3, 2017

“It was not fake news. People with green cards were being held, and even Trump said so.”

A person with a green card is not a US citizen. They are still subject to immigration control.

“Well, anyone who believed that he wanted to make their lives better must be an idiot.”

              Time will tell.

I should have said ‘resident’, I know. But an official resident has more rights than a visitot. But if the green card can be arbitrarily revoked en masse, they are meaningless and not worth applying for.

I see the Democrat’s use of denying a quorum lasted two days before the Republicans changed the Senate committee rules without them and left them impotently out in the cold.

Excellent. Get rid of the mindless obstructionist crap and make the Senate work properly again. And Trump is urging the nuclear option if the Democrats try to filibuster his Supreme Court nominations too. The Dems will reap what they sow now. Trumpy doesn’t play to lose.

    • Anonymous Coward

Senate financial committee rules, which is not the senate proper, and does nothing to stop the obstructionist crap.
“Republicans jammed two of President Donald Trump’s top Cabinet picks through the Senate Finance Committee with no Democrats in the room Wednesday after suspending a rule that would have otherwise barred them from taking the vote.”
“They then used two 14-0 roll calls to approve financier Steve Mnuchin for Treasury secretary and Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., to be health secretary, ignoring Democrats’ demands that the two nominees provide more information about their financial backgrounds.
“All the nominations will need full Senate approval.”

I gather he has similar beliefs to the Justice he is replacing but otherwise I haven’t studied his record to have a view. Plenty of people seem to believe him intellectually worthy. America has more than its share of god-botherers but I’m not sure how many of its intellectuals and politicians find lip service advisable. I haven’t seen any serious evidence that Gorsuch will be a terrible judge.

  6. It was interesting to see Trump signing an ‘exec. order on immigration’ (AlJz)
His desk was totally empty; does this mean he is right ‘up-to’date’ on all current issues.. OR rather; does he not have ANY other Political issues to attend to/deal with at the moment ?? 😀

Yes, when you put a person who is a radical believer in free markets and is often described as a ‘climate change denier’ in charge of the EPA, there will be some freaking out. This is going to be entertaining.

          • David, I see your point, but it is not a case of being entertained so much as the pursuit of where the truth is? I still remain a sceptic especially about CO2’s influence on climate. As a disciple of the “Carbon cycle”, I see a positive from CO2 not a negative. So the changes in weather that do exist , are more likely to be influenced by the Sun and atmospheric changes due to changes in the Ocean currents. But I do not want to revisit the subject any more than what I have said.
At least he will have an opportunity to test the veracity of the scientific research on climate change.

    ”… Donald whats-his-name.”

Its your blog and all that so you can say what you like Pete but this seems petulant and childish. You’ve been frothing at the mouth about Trump since the election (and probably before) while he’s never heard of you so name calling seems the ultimate fail – like you’ve lost the debate so are having a tanty.

As for Gezza with his ”How rational & sensible can he be if he’s a god-botherer?”

My church has a mix of engineers, a marine biologist, an industrial chemist, a geologist, accountants, medical doctors, educators, professional musicians blah blah. A few also have extra degrees such as something around divinity or theology. Those are just the ones I know. They are all objectively rational and sensible.

Breaking News: Trump puts Turnbull in a box and smacks it with a hammer.

I don’t know what was in that dossier but Putin must have photos of Trump in a threesome with a goat, because Trump just jumps through whatever hoop Putin lays out for him.

  10. Yonathan Zunger claims that “Professionally, I’m a principal engineer at Google and Chief Architect for Social. My primary responsibility is the overarching technical design of Google’s social products, especially the Google+ Project. I’ve been at Google since 2003, during which time I’ve worked on artificial intelligence (in the search quality / ranking team), search infrastructure (as head of the ultra-high capacity search group), and planet-scale distributed storage.” The piece quoted above alleging a coup d’etat in the making is a clueless piece of conjecture that starts by claiming as undisputed “facts” some of the most outrageous statementsI have ever read. Talk about conspiracy theories?

His other articles place him in the category of liberal progressive whose brain has become sodden with game theory and far too many hours in front of a computer screen, so his brain has fried. He is a dangerous nerd.

I notice that the Conservative News from the US is currently claiming that the Big Blond D has now “instructed” the people tasked with looking at Corruption in the Federal Service , to review “all claims made against Hilary Clinton during her time as Secretary of State including funding from overseas sources. I put the Conservative news on the same (low) level as RT, as far as false news is concerned so it may be nothing, but I would be interested if anyone else can find similar stories on the subject.

I would find it quite helpful if you could give me a list of the reputable, politically neutral, completely unbiased, & purely objective, true-fact-based media sources & authors Bj.

It’s a struggle for me trying to find them at times, & if you’ve done the work already that could save me a lot of time sometimes spent on cross-checking for counter-factuals and so forth.

      • Gezza, sorry mate but what you ask me to do is exactly what I have asked for earlier, and I asked it because I do not have the answer. I grew up during WW2 listening to the BBC “Beep beep this is London calling” to learn about how my 7 uncles were doing overseas. We got used to factual statements about what was happening and ere able to sleep nights, because we believed the news. I can’t do that now, because I have a bullshit meter named “Experience” and I can test the extent of research behind the commentary, and it’s logic. So, to sum up join the club it’s called “The Cynics”. Good luck!

Turnbull’s already received a friendly call from Xi Jinping reminding him that the neighbourhood is smaller now with the US gone and that China is still around.

Bill will be getting the same call soon.

    • Hey, I was still working full time at his age. No excuse, given his health status is better than 90% of US 70 year-olds. And his “In Box” was empty, I also note he has no sign saying “The Buck Stops Here” either!
