Media watch – Monday

6 February 2017

Media Watch is a focus on New Zealand media, blogs and social media. You can post any items of interested related to media.

A primary aim here is to hold media to account in the political arena. A credible and questioning media is an essential part of a healthy democracy.

A general guideline – post opinion on or excerpts from and links to blog posts or comments of interest, whether they are praise, criticism, pointing out issues or sharing useful information.

As usual avoid anything that could cause any legal issues such as potential defamation or breaching suppression orders. Also remember that keeping things civil, legal and factual is more effective and harder to argue against or discredit.

Sometimes other blogs get irate if their material is highlighted elsewhere but the Internet is specifically designed to share and repeat information and anyone who comments or puts anything into a public forum should be aware that it could be republished elsewhere (but please include attribution).

Good on them. Have you got any links to where Trump’s done that?

    • Notice the terminology used by a largely apologist Clinton favouring/Trump hating news source HuffPost say “Walks Back Report Of Steve Bannon ‘Confrontation’. What happened to the word LIED?

  2. Is English trying to compete with Jacinda Ardern?

He really shouldn’t have lowered himself to this.

Oh dear. Poor Andrew Little – they’ve got him surrounded.

Who paid who for this one?

I agree Pete. However, tens of thousands of people (or maybe more) lower themselves to buying that ‘gossip rag’ every week. And a majority of them vote.

  4. The Age Melbourne has the results of research in Australia to define “What sort of Australian are you?” The article is at : “ the 7 tribes”
The research is sponsored by “Fairfax Media” and may be a precursor for a “What Sort of Kiwi are You?”
I did the Australian questions having spent 8 years living there. I was rated as “ANTI ESTABLISHMENT FIREBRAND” which I really think is a bit tough. I know Fairfax is fighting for its commercial existence, but thought you might also have a go at answering the questions, and read who the 7 Tribes of Australia are in reparation for the ? number of Kiwi Tribes and what their defining characteristics are?

    • Interesting survey Beejay. Perhaps predictably I am an Egalitarian Activist, somewhat ahead of being a Cosmopolitan Progressive …

“Politicians neglect rural areas” [Strongly Agree – thru Neither Agree Nor Disagree – Strongly Disagree or No Opinion] was the nearest they came to anything remotely about Aboriginal First Nation issues …
