Judging by the papers this has been designated a No News Day so we can all go off and do stuff. Hope G enjoys his Church service.

We are getting a forecast of a good rain on Wednesday so maybe the drought is broken at last. Also a shower or two this afternoon but nothing significant. Sunny and calm at present. Off to walk the dogs. They had a lot of exercise yesterday up and down the long driveway as I weedsprayed with the ute.

Enjoy. Did some research on mallard hen communication last night but all I could find was descriptions of about 3 kinds of quack they make, all of which I have actually heard. Nothing about the quite significant range of other sounds mine make to me when I’m close up & ‘talking’ to them. No refs to chest-clicks, cheeps, whimpers etc. Research & field obs continue.

Onto my third location with the possum trap and no hit after the first night. The second location got one on the second night but then no more. I didn’t find any possum tree marks or droppings when I was searching in the bush. So far I’ve only seen those at the cabins. They must like civilisation.

I heard a story today Al , apparently there is a guy over Kororareka that has one of those traps and he catches that many possums they have a little hill to climb of possum corpses to get into the trap. Sounds suspect tho’. … you have to lure them in with some good smellies.
Pre feeding with flour cloves and cinnamon usually gets them coming.
I’ve got to say; us possums like a bit of civilisation now and then. 🙂

So far the dead ones have all rolled down the hill, Possum. It’s a bit steep for them to stack. The bait is cinnamon and I put it around the bottom of the trunk. It gets eaten by insects as well I think though.

Aww phsaww! Who here in North Welly HASN’T lived up on a hill with great views ! Did that for 20 years. Up on the roof shaking me fist @ the Norwesters. 👆 Wimpy thing to do.

Get down near somewhere that could flood as well, Lurch, battling all the elements, taming the wildlife, snarling at vicious pug dogs, 💪 Bit like you just did re Corkery, I guess. 😁

Must say I was very surprised to see that the late gay pop icon *George Michael* hasn’t even been buried yet 😡

This from my twitter feed yesterday, where TMZ are repotring that *Police are STILL investigating his death* ❗

You can listen here to the *999 call* that his ‘boyfriend’ made when he found his body in bed……

Misleadinf advertising, I think ! The dog finds this message very disappointing, as he loves biscuits by any name and is always full of hope when he reads it. Or rather, he was, he has become disillusioned and stopped believing in it.

      • Kitty Catkin

         /  February 12, 2017

Misleading. I always give the dog a treat to make up for it.

It was a pity that Andrew Little used the Big Gay Out for politicking, praising himself and slagging off Bill English. BE was honest-he was tolerant but wouldn’t go as far as John Key for personal reasons. He put in an appearance, behaved with dignity. and Andrew Little did himself no favours with his speech.

             /  February 13, 2017

Bill English didn’t use the occasion to promote himself-that’s the difference.

Very excellent G, ever heard this one?
It can be played ‘open’ very easily, verse is Am & G, chorus is C, D, Bm (I think 😉 )

      • Gezza

         /  February 12, 2017

Well, he’s very earnest, & his approach to finding out if he’s in the right key by just giving it whack, & if he’s not, he’ll have another go, is rather similar to my approach sometimes, but I don’t think grunge is really my thing, or the oldies’, patu 😳

I’ll pace eric’s little number up a bit, it sounds better slightly faster. I’ll probably do about four off the Unplugged Album. Just a case of finding the lyrics in my old band books – we did an acoustic only set. I wrote all the chords in. He sings pretty much in my key, including where he needs to slide in & out of the low falsetto.

    • Gezza

I’m doing acoustic gigs blazer, like patu’s picked up. We did layla in pubs n clubs but I may not dig that one out yet patu.

My big discovery was 3/4 & half-size classical guitars. They’ve got thin necks & narrow fingerboards like my electrics. I’ve customised them both by lowering the action. I can get as much lead clarity & volume out of the 3 high strings playing with fingers & nails as on a steel string with a pick. A bit less sustain, but still acceptable played properly.

The bottom 3 have a great bassy sound, so I work bass riffs in to all my rhythm playing, I sometimes do my own interpretations & add rhythym-lead breaks to extend nice songs – do a nice extended version of Into The Mystic. Goes down well. I work it around the bass line in Van’s original, but do the vocals more like Joe.

Here’s another Clapton Unplugged number I’m chucking in. I can ace this one, it’s just basic blues. I do this it in a faster tempo as well.

         /  February 12, 2017

‘Basic blues’, if one knows how to play G 😉 Patu Jr & I had our ‘axes’ out, a few weekends ago, & were playing together, doing an acoustic rendition of ’46 & 2′, by Tool. My mate was amazed, & asked “HTF do you guys do that!?”. Jr laughed, & said “Do what?!”.
I enjoy mucking around on his 3/4 acoustic, (which he has grown out of) as it makes ‘a stretch’ a little easier. Do you know ‘Under the bridge’, by the RHCP? The opening solo is 4 frets wide…

Jr & I aren’t quite this good yet, but you get the picture. IMHO, this version is better than the original…

           /  February 12, 2017

Yes I know that one. Nice guitar work, chord sequences are engaging. Like his sound settings, nice touch of distortion & chorus I think, has a steely clean sound as well as some bottom-end grunt. He does a nice mix of rythymy leads in there too. Vids are starting to crash the page on the FiP. Gonna go check out other threads – seemed to be some good debates breaking out in some earlier. Hitting the hay at midnight. Ka kite e hoa.
