Trump campaigners contact with Russian intelligence

New York Times reports: Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence

Phone records and intercepted calls show that members of Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and other Trump associates had repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials in the year before the election, according to four current and former American officials.

American law enforcement and intelligence agencies intercepted the communications around the same time they were discovering evidence that Russia was trying to disrupt the presidential election by hacking into the Democratic National Committee, three of the officials said. The intelligence agencies then sought to learn whether the Trump campaign was colluding with the Russians on the hacking or other efforts to influence the election.

The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation.

But the intercepts alarmed American intelligence and law enforcement agencies, in part because of the amount of contact that was occurring while Mr. Trump was speaking glowingly about the Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin. At one point last summer, Mr. Trump said at a campaign event that he hoped Russian intelligence services had stolen Hillary Clinton’s emails and would make them public.

The officials said the intercepted communications were not limited to Trump campaign officials, and included other associates of Mr. Trump. On the Russian side, the contacts also included members of the government outside of the intelligence services, they said. All of the current and former officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because the continuing investigation is classified.

The officials said that one of the advisers picked up on the calls was Paul Manafort, who was Mr. Trump’s campaign chairman for several months last year and had worked as a political consultant in Ukraine.

Just more Trump being Trump, nothing to see here, Putin has good relations with the US as a top priority.

The F.B.I. declined to comment. The White House also declined to comment Tuesday night, but earlier in the day, the press secretary, Sean Spicer, stood by Mr. Trump’s previous comments that nobody from his campaign had contact with Russian officials before the election.

“There’s nothing that would conclude me that anything different has changed with respect to that time period,” Mr. Spicer said in response to a question.

Facts, alternative facts, who cares as long as they fix the US and the World.

    hahahahahahahahahahahahaha spin baby spin.

If they have something damning they would have put it on the table by now – they would have tried to bait trumps team into categorical denials, then dropped the turd on the desk as proof of lies…

but it looks like another smear attack

Its getting heavy now isn’t it. If Donald survives this attack then I expect the Democrats and their backers will go quiet for a while – particularly the backers as they try to figure out how to get their money from the failed POTUS Democratic campaign….or while Soros’ boys and girls seek another attack vector.

Just leave him alone and he will hang himself – this attack, attack, attack stuff is just consolidating his core base

Dave, we appear to have reached the point where anything he does say, can and will be used by the media against him. Confessus pro ludicato habetur

  2. BLAZER, on what basis have you made the claim above. If you are doing it for a laugh, say so. However, Mr Thiel has enough good lawyers to look after himself, but it would be better if we got off the crappy slander and got back to real things like the positive results of US investors in NZ?

Thiel is irrelevant. Joyce’s investment vehicles are stupid and bad policy whoever is involved with them. The Government should not be involved in trying to pick winners with taxpayers’ money.

  4. This attack by the US media is entirely consistent with the plan outlined by the Democrats in their published manifesto. The New York Times has no credibility any more.

Is that the manifesto you brought up yesterday?

      • Yes AC. If you follow the subject through, you can actually find on the web the initial invitation sent out to the subscribers of the Democrat PACs and others.

          To what ends?
What do you think it proves?
Who do you think wrote it?
You’re the one telling the story.

And how does it differ from what the other side are doing?
This is the PAC, with $18 million of funding mentioned in the first paragraph of the PDF. They’re certainly not biased and pushing a strong agenda, while at the same time trying to influence discourse are they?

      • Back to the original point. It would be of interest to establish the amount and nature of contact by Obama administration officials with similar Russian agencies. In the normal course of Diplomatic intercourse, it is usual to have interchanges with other countries’ Diplomatic staff. In addition, it is normal for trade and commerce related conversations to occur. Every country has rules for reporting such contacts by officials, but in democratic countries there is no constraint on ordinary people exercising freedom of speech. The investigation by the Justice Department, CIA and FBI is unbalanced if they do not describe what is normal and unacceptable. Given that they have intercepted the conversations by Flynn, and have not charged him with espionage or any other offence, what he did should not be treated in any other way than normal intercourse by a person not holding Federal Office at the time.To not do this labels the investigations as political and biased against the administration in power and should be sanctioned.
