MediaWatch

Media Watch is a focus on New Zealand media, blogs and social media. You can post any items of interested related to media.

A primary aim here is to hold media to account in the political arena. A credible and questioning media is an essential part of a healthy democracy.

A general guideline – post opinion on or excerpts from and links to blog posts or comments of interest, whether they are praise, criticism, pointing out issues or sharing useful information.

As usual avoid anything that could cause any legal issues such as potential defamation or breaching suppression orders. Also remember that keeping things civil, legal and factual is more effective and harder to argue against or discredit.

Sometimes other blogs get irate if their material is highlighted elsewhere but the Internet is specifically designed to share and repeat information and anyone who comments or puts anything into a public forum should be aware that it could be republished elsewhere (but please include attribution).

  1. Best way is to avoid the media MSM completely. . There is better and more accurate information all over the internet. Let them shrivel and die. Interaction with progressives is contra indicated.

Not sure this is possible to avoid progressives Paul. They are all around us. And some of them are good people, albeit profoundly boring and a little misguided. I stumbled across one such progressive, a gent called Brian Edwards who has met my good friend Cameron and was surprised to find himself warming to him, quite unlike his blog persona

Edwards was seduced by the usual flannel that he can’t resist….how wonderful he was on television and how Fair Go has never been the same since he left.Amanda Hotchin used the same tactic when she popped up on his Blog, trying to justify her husbands tenure at Handover Finance.

For some reason I always to expend a little mental effort to override my brain reading his address as “brained edwards media.co.nz.”

“Meeting Slater did not change my view of the morons who have made his blog the most widely read in the country. (Nothing attracts a following like intemperance of thought and expression.)”

Written in 2012 though, c. A lot of sewage has flowed under the bridge since then. Has BE ever done any update on his impressions of the man more latterly?

Nothing more up to date G but I sense nothing has occurred to change BE’s view of CS. In the course of my research I discovered Brian and I share the same gut. Here he is expounding on Len Brown, Owen Glenn and Dead Baby Dave…

“It’s a fact of life that there are some people we just don’t like. There may be no persuasive reason for not liking them. It’s the gut rather than the brain talking. But the gut operates at a deeper level than the brain and may often be the better judge of character.

In my own case, the best example of “gut judgement” is my reaction to Owen Glenn. The man almost literally turns my stomach. I can guess at some of the reasons, but I really have no hard evidence to convict him of anything. Recent events may suggest I am not alone in my reaction.

I feel less strongly about Len Brown. But I don’t like him either. It’s the gut again. Read the rest of this entry »

I watched your interview with Cam Slater on Sunday. During it, you could not resist denigrating me, and dredging up the “dead baby” issue yet again. The rest of the MSM have pretty well shaken all they could out of the issue, but you attempted to breathe fresh life into it”

There’s a name from the past. My boyhood hero, arguably the greatest player in the history of the game. His loss to Deep Blue was a day the world stood still and his epic battle against the US Grand Master whose name escapes me a highly politicised symbol of good vs evil

I watched Fischer play Taimanov in Vancouver. He was a quite bizarre genius.

Remarkable how those guys can carry round so many permutations in their head Al. I used to play a Swiss yodeller who would commence every game by announcing ‘I vunce played Spassky in Zurich’. I would guess he was one of 25 triers lined up to be destroyed by Boris that day

Cameron Slaters book was at the top of an Amazon list once too, with FA sales.
