National’s Smith risk

How big a risk to National’s election chances is Nick Smith?

Some of the criticism of Smith’s water announcement was ill informed, over the top or disingenuous, but did a poor job of both announcing and explaining. Getting cranky makes things worse.

This is on top of multiple stuff ups over housing and also over the Kermadecs sanctuary, which should have been all good publicity.

May cost National the election, it’s far from certain it will but it won’t help.

The national boat has a dirty water leak – can English deal with this? Or hope the sinking can be ignored?

As Wayne said yesterday – you know things are looking bad for Smithy, when even *James Shaw* goes on a personal attack 😡

And *F&B* put in their 2 cents worth…..

James Shaw’s statement is a lie. The Forest and Bird one is little better. They completely ignore the facts about the new policy and the definition of swimmable.

This allegation is that doubling the ecoli concentration means five times the risk of contracting that disease. I would like to see any evidence that is actually true.

Of course the counter evidence is that the continents of Europe and North America use that definition of swimable without any evidence of public health suffering in consequence. So we are supposed to believe the likes of Mike Joy?

In the absence of further evidence I call b.s.

The new standard is a minimum, not the maximum and hardly where the standard will be every time when tested – it is disingenuous for the opposition to suggest that’s the standard our water will now be all of the time; re. the 1 in 20 people getting sick in the restaurant advert.

You wouldn’t Blazer – already have so many issues that swimming in water couldn’t possibly make things worse for you…….

There is no “doubling” of the ecoli concentration. Read the policy again.

Yep, should have been evacuated when he had his wee melt down a few years ago. He would have retained his dignity and some public sympathy.
