Media watch – Tuesday

MediaWatch

Media Watch is a focus on New Zealand media, blogs and social media. You can post any items of interested related to media.

A primary aim here is to hold media to account in the political arena. A credible and questioning media is an essential part of a healthy democracy.

A general guideline – post opinion on or excerpts from and links to blog posts or comments of interest, whether they are praise, criticism, pointing out issues or sharing useful information.

As usual avoid anything that could cause any legal issues such as potential defamation or breaching suppression orders. Also remember that keeping things civil, legal and factual is more effective and harder to argue against or discredit.

Sometimes other blogs get irate if their material is highlighted elsewhere but the Internet is specifically designed to share and repeat information and anyone who comments or puts anything into a public forum should be aware that it could be republished elsewhere (but please include attribution).

OMG, some more delusion from WO. Apparently Breitbart can ‘learn from Whaleoil’.

Just read to the end of the article (I admit I posted after only reading the first paragraph), and it is really just another sales pitch for WO to get more money.

What was ironic about Hollywood’s big fail, was the glaring lack of acting skills – that alone is worth it’s own screen play – might even win best picture next year:)

    Two snippets for a laugh:

“What began as a night of partying ended with Ali Williams and James O’Connor locked in separate police cells alongside hardened French gangsters and drug dealers. …
Both were said to be intoxicated and were put into separate “sobering cells” alongside drunk and drug-affected suspects….”

So they were drunk, on a mission to buy drugs to become drug-affected as well, yet it seems there’s something terrible about them being put in with drunk and drug-affected suspects!
    😊

Thought the peers must have been running a bit short (end of the month bills) but no (and maybe yes as well) it’s BREXIT.

(I think its 380 quid? a day to clock in – no need to stay)

Sorry, Peers. Don’t mean to be picky, but, you might have thought somewhere in the LP Publicity Dept. someone might have suggested a hairdresser or two. Particularly for the Baronesses. I mean they have their Commons pensions to fall back om as well.

Pete, that is the live stream, so nothing about the Lords when I clicked on it, but I am going to guess it is to do with a series that the BBC is showing at the moment in a ‘fly on the wall’ look at the Lords. One of them yesterday was complaining in the media that it was an unfair look, and put the Lords in a bad light – not what they want this week as they come under pressure on the Article 50 Bill.

It is outrageous that they get so much and they don’t even have to stay – or they just fall asleep! The rest of us at least have to work to get out money.

Last year it came out that one of the Peers was in New York, so got the taxpayer to pay for him to fly back to London for a day in order to attend the House of Lords sitting! There is a lot of pressure for reform, and this week will just exacerbate it, between the BBC series (I didn’t watch it, so am only going on what has been written about it), and Article 50.

Thanks Missy. I’ll look sometime today. I assume the debate will take a while? You are right, some of the younger readers might not work out the ‘Peer business’,

Yesterday and tomorrow are the committee stages where they debate amendments (I will put a little about that in the UK post shortly), and then next week is the third reading and vote.

Thanks again. Have you been to the Lords in session?

No I haven’t. Though I will put it on my bucket list, I think it will be interesting.

The only reason this guy gets any media attention is because of his father. Who knows he may have some talent, but it’s not obvious. Pretty boy, metro-sexual, son of Prime Minister, pfffft!!!!

I’d be interested to know how many tickets are sold. Can’t say his music is to my taste, but my teenaged sons & I agree that the young lady in the music video is ‘quite fetching’… 😉
