When I was at Boarding School, all us girls had *Hot Rod* posters stuck in our gym lockers…….what an *Ahole* he’s turned out to be…. 😡

[Even Wayne sez he’s going to toss his complete collection of Rod Stewart 45’s]

Yep, he can be a daft sometimes, silly old duffer.

I’ll still be doing “Hot Legs” in my one hour RH concert on the 28th.

1100 hours. I’ve got a bit of time between projects, still too sore in the back muscles to finish the paving, so now I’m on to projects that I can do without bending to ofeten, before it starts pluviating on Tues – according the lovely Renee on 1Ewes last nite. (At least she doesn’t shriek the weather commentary, like that over-excited *schoolgirl* Stokes does with the news.)

Has Sir Al staggered in yet?

Just walked the dogs, shopped and had my coffee. Got to go clean out next door now. Scored another possum yesterday. I see Trumpy’s fired a broadside. Not sure where it hit yet though. The war continues.

Just a minor civil disturbance I think Al. Bit of a domestic. Trumpy’s broadside allegations seem to have no foundation in fact at the moment, so he’s only firing blanks by the look of it. A lot of noise but no damage. 🔫

When I finish my paving here, I’ve got four generously-donated never-been-used 450 sq mm flagstones to lay. 3 of them are perfect, but one of them has a broken triangular fragment roughly handwidth size (normal man’s hand, not a Trump one 😳 ).

It’s a relatively clean break & if I lay it carefully on a meticulously prepared level surface & sand it might actually look ok – I can mix a little coloured ground paving powder into a surface mortar-type covering to cover up the break. But does anyone here know of a suitably strong glue or other means of rejoining it firmly that I could also try? Weeds have a tendency force their way through cracked concrete & pavers.

         /  March 5, 2017

Cheers Al. Not a bad idea. They’re 50mm thick – I’ve got masonry bits & could use 3 or 4 four cut 1 mm wide chrome/steel rods – supports from old IN trays. Drilling would have to be bloody precise though. I suppose another alternative might be lay the joined flagstone on something else flat undeneath it. Ordinary mortar won’t do for joining it.

        • patupaiarehe

           /  March 5, 2017

If I were you G, I wouldn’t attempt drilling it. You’ll quite likely end up with even more of the corner missing. A far safer option would be to box around the corner, 10-20 mm below the top, in situ, then cover the boxing with soil/gravel/whatever.

Cheers patu, a variation on the wedging idea of Kitty’s. Worth a thought.

A little ‘Duck tape’ applied to the bottom of the paver, over the join, should stop the weeds from growing thru’…

    • Kitty Catkin

       /  March 5, 2017

I was once given a lot of pavers by a local builder, and they looked excellent when the holes were dug and the pavers put in to make a little path. THEN people told us that there should have been sand underneath, The pavers have sunk, of course. I also didn’t know to put them so that they were slightly raised.

I’d be inclined to to try mortar, if you can scrooge a tiny bit from somewhere. It’s a pity that it’s not a Trump-hand sized bit.

How DO weeds do that ? If anyone tried to actually plant anything on these places, it wouldn’t work. Oh ! a bit of black plastic underneath might stop weeds and save a lot of faffing around.

My gate needs to be rehung some time, groan, groan, and this will mean a bit of carpentry as well-the fool who buit the fence used ROUND POSTS at the ends by the path and they are a pain in the bum to replace hinges and latches on. Has anyone ever put on one of those spring things to shut the gate ? The gate has dropped, as they do, and the latch didn’t always shut properly-I did some first aid and it does now. But because of the dog, I’d like to make sure that nobody can leave it open.

Would hanging the gate at a slight angle / rather than straight make it swing shut ?

         /  March 5, 2017

How about wedging it in with something ? I imagine that you don’t want to spend much, or you might as well buy a paver.

        • Gezza

           /  March 5, 2017

Correct ‘d I’d perfer to use whatever I already have here. Wedging’s not a bad idea. Ta.🌹

             /  March 5, 2017

I’d be bunging little ‘posts’ down.

I also prefer to use what I have-I don’t buy paint for my little paintings, not because I’m too mean or poor, but because that would defeat the object of the exercise which is to make something from things like pieces of wood and the paint left in a testpot that would be wasted otherwise.

I made a new bathroom ‘vanity’ from the old fence slats 😀 Partly from being a good wee greeny, mostly because it doesn’t seem possible to buy one without a basin, and I really like the old one, which IS an old one.

      • Gezza

         /  March 5, 2017

Thanks Kitty. I don’t think motar will do because I thought to do any good it’ll have to be a mm thick & that might mean the edges aren’t flush with rest of the flagstone. I can try ordinary cement.

Those of us who build gates regularly, have no need for the internet… 😀

            • Kitty Catkin

               /  March 6, 2017

I have built three gates-well, four, but one was too heavy to be a success, so wasn’t used.

I built a gate and a surround-a sort of arch, but not curved, if you see what I mean-out of scrap deck timber (and nails-the ends of the nail gun strips, mainly) all on my lonely lone. It goes between the end of a trellis fence and the side of the house. I am still surprised at this 😀

The one at the front suffers from being attached to two half-rounds, which make putting hinges on difficult. I shall saw a slice off, put a fence slat there and put new hinges on.

It’s annoying that gates always drop and it’s hard to make enough allowance for this.

Good man. If you want to go on the scoreboard, Corky, just say the word.

Entries are now only considered by request. Only those with the guts to stack themselves up against heavy competition & who can make the odd reasoned argument in their comments get included now (except for Al, who prefers to post articles from Conrad Black & others who do his thinking for him), after a couple of wusses who couldn’t hack the strain asked to be deleted.

            • patupaiarehe

               /  March 5, 2017

Hmmm…. Am I a ‘wuss’, for asking to be excluded, due to your scoring system encouraging bad behaviour??? Tell you what G, put me back on the board, but don’t announce ‘scoring days’, until after the fact. Fair enough?

            • Gezza

               /  March 5, 2017

Tell it to the Marines, lad. We refs have heard ’em all. It hasn’t encouraged bad behaviour. I reckon it’s either had no effect or, who knows, maybe even improved things. If you kept yourself up with the play here you’d have seen my notice a couple of weeks back that Scoring Days are no longer notified in advance & are only to be announced until after Scoring has been completed.

You are back on the Scoreboard. The current scoring range is 5 (Zedd, Jeeves) – 15 (Alan Wilkinson, Joe Bloggs). I am thinking of starting you at the handicap score of 9 (dave1924, now awol, & PartisanZ), but will consider any submissions from anyone on an approriate number up until midnight.

            • Gezza

               /  March 5, 2017

It’s just the best way of starting someone new to the Scoreboard (or restarting a former competitor) with an attempt at a fair score relative to the long standing contriburors who’ve racked scores to date. My suggestion to zero the board at the start of each Scoring Day as an alternative – which might have been fairer in some ways, but would miss out anybody not posting that particular day, received only two submissions, both against the idea.

            • patupaiarehe

               /  March 5, 2017

My position on the ‘scoreboard’, is ‘don’t know, don’t care’. I’ve already voiced why I had a problem with it, & you’ve resolved that issue. So, once again, I am happy to be on it. 😀

Joe Bloggs leading?? Points should be taken off for posting pretty much on the one subject matter…………..a bit of a Trump obsession there.

            • Gezza

               /  March 5, 2017

@ pants. Not one of the well-established established points loss criteria, pants. They can’t just get made up to suit some aggrieved individual. Scorekeeper has to be completely neutral. Nek minit someone would be claiming your current 11 grossly overvalues your contribution & demanding a similar reduction. Joe earned those points fairly on the day.

Who knows? Next Scoring Day Al & Joe could both take a dive, relatively speaking for points loss fouls, and you could leap ahead with quality arguments & relevant links. It should all balance out with averages over a few months. 😎

              @ duperez. No.
