On Friday it was announced that former Chancellor George Osborne would be the new editor of the Evening Standard Newspaper. The news has been greeted with quite a lot of criticism, especially as it is seen as a way for Osborne to try to undermine Theresa May and Brexit. There are many that see this job as a conflict of interest, and others believe that it will mean he will neglect his constituents – especially as it is his 6th job.

As a consequence of this the Committee on Standards in Public Life is the review the rules around second jobs for MPs. The review is in direct response to Osborne’s job, but is apparently not ‘personal’ to Osborne.

Despite what a lot of people may think about *Katie H*, the one thing you can say about her, “is that she’s always been a woman of her word”

You can still put up the photos of her boarding the plane to move to the US now that Trump’s won. oh wait, she didn’t do that either.
Does she follow through on anything?

It seems like most bullies Nicola Sturgeon will back down when someone stands up to her. After days of calling Theresa May undemocratic and threatening a referendum at the end of next year regardless of what Westminster says, she has now conceded that she could be willing to wait until after Brexit for a second referendum.

This could be as much the result of polls showing that the majority of Scots do not want a referendum and if one was held the No vote would win, as it is down to Theresa May’s stance.

Rumours are circulating this morning that Theresa May will call a snap election for May 4. Despite the Fixed Term Parliament legislation I understand she can do this if she gets enough votes in the Commons to hold the election (off the top of my head I think it is 75%), this is likely – unless Labour have changed their mind – as the Liberal Democrats have consistently said they will support an early election, as have the SNP. A bit of irony if the Lib Dems do support an early election as they were the one’s that pushed the FTP legislation.
