Hot off the press from Barry Soper…lol. There will be a 5 Eyes meeting in Queenstown. It wouldn’t be wise to go rabbit shooting in that area over the next few days. Getting zapped by a Rail Gun from space will hurt big time.

Has anyone ever had a new dunny cistern put in ? If so, what would the cost be?

I have just read some, but it didn’t say if that was inc. the cistern that I can buy for $94 at Mitre 10. There’s a real horror story in Stuff about someone paying $715 for this, inc the cistern which was a $94 one bu tfor which the plumber charged at least twice that amount.

      @ kitty

I had a whole new toilet put in about a year ago.. I think I paid about $170 for the toilet & about $200 installing cost (inc. removing old leaky one). Maybe we have lower labour costs in Dn ?

I am surprised at how cheap loos are, but it’s only the cistern that needs doing-the wossname, the bit that goes up, is a bit unreliable and if I don’t remember to flip the flush button up again, the water keeps flowing in .Then, unless there’s a trickle left going in, the water drips out through the space around the button. The wossname is $60, so I thought that I might as well put the extra and have a new cistern.

I hear that it’s not a difficult thing to do, but as I probably don’t have the tools-like a large enough spanner-I’d have to buy those, too. Forget it !!!

If you need any *toilet-roll holders* installed, Catkin…just sing out.
Wayne’s had a bit of practice in that area XD

I would hardly be likely to pay a plumber to do that; a five minute job, if that. The stick on ones take a few seconds to put on. My current one needed a screw to be put in-hardly high tech.

Fair enuff Catkin, but there are a few things to be aware of though! Be careful you don’t do what Wayne did in my bathroom…..he put it just out of reach 😡

            I hope that you’re joking.

The one that was here when we moved in was terribly elegant and expensive (I couldn’t believe it when I saw how much they were) but it was a really bad design. It had a chrome cover over the paper so that all that showed was the bit hanging down, and the cover was on such a tiny catch that it fell off all the time. It was really fiddly replacing the loo roll. too. I now have a simple white enamel one.

Yes, know what you mean Catkin!

Our place is a grand old 2 storey villa…4 bathrooms. Wayne bought some exquisite antique *Royal Doulton* porcelain holders that needed to be recessed into the walls…. if he moved it, we’d end up with a big hole 😡 So as he said,,,,it’s really the lesser of two evils

I watched the Prime Rockumentary on Jeff Lynne the other night. Jeff is one of my favourite artists & is very well-acclaimed producer as well. He’s a hugely talented singer, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist. His entire home is set up with just about every room having recording equipment & instruments in it. The doco featured commentaries from the members of the Travelling Wilbury’s and various other artists who’ve worked with him.

He basically IS ELO. Paul McCartney said he took up where the Beatles left off, something I’ve always thought.

He does everything on this. “She” is a song written by Charles Aznavour and Herbert Kretzmer and released by Aznavour as a single in 1974.

Jeff & George Harrison were very close friends. Don’t know if you’re awar Eric Clapton played the lead on George’s Beatles song While My Guitar Gently Weeps. But Eric’s an improviser. He could never probably reproduce that same lead. Here’s Jeff & Tom Petty’s tribute to George when they inducted him posthumously into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Prince does a great lead extension job at the end.

murders that song imo….Elvis Costello and original way…better.

Oh yes, nobody will beat Charles Aznavour’s original.
I don’t think he plays any instruments or does any backup vocals on it though.

I had a listen to Elvis Costello’s version of it but, as expected, it was shit, imo. Hugely overrated, especially by himself, is EC.

I’ll grant you that Jeff mangles this bit at the start of the chorus:
“She who always seems so happy in a crowd, whose eyes are private and so proud” but otherwise I think he does an excellent job, especially as he does everything himself.

But I like his voice & his accent & his ability to write melodic memorable tunes. As a person, a songwriter, a musician, an arranger & a producer he’s very well respected by a lot of musicians. Very modest chap. One of the legends who’s worked with him said he’s a perfectionist but you never notice, he just has a natural way of getting perfection out of them.

Have you got it in for Jeff?

you’re reading too much into it.I said I do not like his rendition of that particular song.No big deal.
