“This place is brutal”

It may not be easy to notice amongst this clutter…

WhaleOilBrutal

…but Whale Oil has a not very welcoming (a brutal) warning to anyone wanting to participate:

There are some rules, and if there is one thing about Whaleoil that you need to know is that these rules are dispassionately and strictly enforced.  (No really.  Just the tiniest of slip ups and you’re toast.  This place is brutal. No sense of humour what-so-ever. You’ve been warned.)

No laughing allowed.

Since you’re here … we’ve got a favour to ask. Advertising revenues across media are falling fast. And unlike other news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our work available to everyone. Please Click Here Now to subscribe to an ad-free Whaleoil. Your contribution helps us survive in a hostile market.

A brutal blog whaling about a hostile market.

Can anyone who subscribes give me a screen shot of an add-free version of this page?

Subscribers have been warned that they get no favours, brutality applies to them in equal measures.

Her name is Boris, she’s a bald, 25 stone, vodka-drinking chain-smoking bald man in his 50s who is making a nice income at his kitchen table from coaxing Western men to send Masha/Irina/Svetlana/Natalia her fare to NZ/Australia/the UK/the US/etc etc so that she can meet the man of her dreams…..yes, that’s you, you lucky man.

Well obviously, Ms Catkin, but I suspect that ‘Svetlana’ would have a lot less ‘luck’, if she said she was after ‘a naive man’… 😀

        • I am still banned myself after nearly 3 years! Crime? As I as a gentleman I politely suggested that Whale Oil was as guilty as many others of publishing party political comment on the day before the General Election!
That banning to me is evidence of a lack of impartial assessment of comments, and just how sensitive the man is to criticism. I hope he does not waste too much of his contributers money on his legal adventures!

I know that parties mustn’t do this, but I don’t know what would happen to a commentator. There is often a poster that has somehow been overlooked, and I think that this is given the benefit of the doubt. I have so often stooged around, making sure that we have taken them all down.

            • Kitty Catkin

               /  April 21, 2017

It seems as if it might be all right if it’s just commentary but not a party ad. I would think that most people would have decided before then, anyway.

I wonder how many people DO turn off ad-block. Yes, I’m going to-I don’t think. Does anyone buy anything on pop-up, on screen ads ?

Microsoft wants me to change to ad-free Outlook, for which I have to pay. I have a feeling that it wouldn’t stop targeted ads, but am not willing to find out. Mozilla does adblock free of charge-I made a donation in gratitude.

When I had Chrome. I was one of the many who had the maddening problem of Chrome being too far over, so that it was impossible to scroll or do anything at all as, needless to say, anything useful was off the screen and it was impossible to move it over.

The ‘add ons’, manage themselves, if you set them right. Fortunately for me, I have a child, who is pretty clever about anything ‘IT’ related.

However I do chuckle when I see comments like the colonels above where he’s still scratching his head trying to work out why he was booted.
