MacGregor claims Craig threatened her

In the Craig v Slater defamation case today Rachel MacGregor has alleged that Colin Craig threatened to ‘destroy” her.

Yesterday things too a turn for the worse for Slater. Today it looks bad for Craig – but there will be more to come which could swing either way.

Stuff: Colin Craig threatened to ‘destroy’ Rachel MacGregor, court told

Rachel MacGregor has told a court that Colin Craig threatened her by saying he’d set aside $1 million to “destroy” her.

MacGregor said that during the mediation, “Colin was adamantly saying he treated me like a sister”.

“Colin was just saying, ‘yeah well I’d kiss my sister, I’d do what I said in the letter to my sister. Me and my lawyer thought it was absurd.

“The only other thing I remember, was that he said he set aside a million dollars and that he was going to destroy me.”

The sexual harassment complaint had been withdrawn as a result of their settlement agreement, but Henry asked MacGregor whether she had withdrawn the allegations.

“There is no way I have ever withdrawn my allegations,” MacGregor said.

“To this day my allegations stand concrete strong. I withdrew my complaint because I had no longer time or energy to deal with this very weird man. I withdrew the complaint because I couldn’t afford to deal with him any more.”

Henry asked MacGregor how she felt when Craig breached the confidentiality of their settlement agreement by speaking publicly about her at a press conference in June 2015.

“I was mortified. He was trying to make me out to be crazy. He was trying to fudge the facts.”

It will be up to Craig to try to deal with this in cross examination.

Witnesses in court enjoy “absolute privilege” which means they can say whatever they like and not be sued for defamation. Media who report what was said in court are protected by “qualified privilege”. Nothing claimed has to be true.

So MacGregor would have us believe that in a legally peer-supervised mediation, Craig openly threatened to destroy her.

I’m calling bullshit on MacGregors claim.

Gee Tipene your getting a little stupid now ….. sure you hate Slater, but to be making those calls ahead of the cross examination of Craig is childish

If only she had not blabbed to Williams. Could have just faded away with the settlement.
      Doubt it was worth it.
Public humiliation often follows trusting these characters.
Another friendly fire trophy for Slater.

I don’t know any employee who would ask for a large loan (maybe a few months salary) from their employer and receive it. Especially if the employee viewed the employer as a creep anyway and kept all correspondence he had sent her in a private capacity for such an event as has happened here.
      It doesn’t add up.

Except he allegedly wasn’t paying her because they couldn’t agree on her hourly rate.
He had all the power and she needed the job.
If it is as she has described it would have been an unenviable position to be in.

@highflyingduck: Nonsense – it’s been reported that MacGregor was 7 years ex-TVNZ – in election year, she could have had the pick of a job – she chose the Conservative Party – twice.

I have always had a question about someone in media promotion lacking the ability to negotiate their own pay, terms and conditions of employment. Generally these people are rather experienced and slick in this regard. It smells smelly to me.

@Sally: anyone who actually knows the Craig family knows them to be very generous to others – in 99% of cases, anyone on the receiving end of such largesse as that reportedly enjoyed by MacGregor would be grateful.

Just another bloody millennial with an over-inflated sense of “entitlitus”.

Yes I cannot understand why someone possibly very well paid anyway, needs a loan from their employer. It’s a “trap” she created herself. She already had a company car.

Best soap opera going. Should be on tv. Dunno how many series they’ll end up making yet before the plots & lines all get to be the same & the series folds, leaving all the actors hopelessly typecast & unemployable.

“Colin Craig v Cameron Slater: The nightmare looms.”

    • Yes, that refers to Craig cross-examining MacGregor today. Slater’s lawyer finished his questioning yesterday and at Craig’s request the court was then adjourned until today to give Craig time to prepare.
