Peters: Government to dictate to Christchurch Anglicans

Winston Peters was in Christchurch today trying to get votes at any price – another bottom line, this time saying he will make the Government make the Anglicans in Christchurch fully restore the Cathedral, with some help from bigger handouts.

It’s not worth trying to quote him or analyse what he said because it means little beside all his other demands and promises.

Stuff: New Zealand First leader Winston Peters critical of cathedral debacle

Politicians should not use Government to dictate to churches.

If Anderton had kept out of it this would have been demolished years ago. Its not the Anglicans delaying things – its a socialist bunch of meddlers who have never set foot inside.

  2. Just another reason not to vote Winston First.

If it was a public building on public land I could agree that the Government has a right to say if it should be rebuilt, but it isn’t. It is a privately owned building on private land. Perhaps Peters should tell the head of the Church of England that politicians should have a say in how the Church conducts its own business, I am sure he will get a hearing.

The trouble is really that the gods keep interfering in people’s affairs Brown. It causes no end of confusion & all sorts of bloody trouble. They should pack it & get a real job or piss off to some other planet.
