Some sir bloke apparently

There has been murmurings through the day about probably the most predictable ‘news’ tomorrow.

Now there have been someone either too quick off the mark (NZ Herald) or they have been outed by someone else.

I can imagine the media doing this story to death and then some, so it could be a good day tomorrow to keep away from the mainstream New Zealand news.

It could be a good day to keep away from Twitter and left wing blogs too.

Some people are into gongs but I think that recognition is earned, not sought and accepted by some while others at least as worthy choose not to or don’t get offered or organised.

  1. ‘News’ embargoes seem to being broken more often these days – generally another silly convention.

Embargos are a generally good convention. What’s sadly disappeared is the media’s trustworthiness & integrity to respect them, or to pretty much respect anything it often seems.

If Sir John was up for a vote I’d vote against that one, but might consider voting for another Minister eventually if he demonstrates he’s worth it.

    • Knowing the system I would confidently guess it was a genuine unintentional mistake rather than a deliberate breaking of the embargo. A simple mis-click of a button.
Embargoes are not a silly convention! They exist so that those creating the news have some control over it’s release while giving a heads up to those who publish. A win-win on most occasions. To not have an embargo on date-critical announcements makes no sense.
If however you are suggesting the awards themselves are a silly convention that is another discussion altogether.

Probably an obsolete relic of old power structures. News is instant now.

And Lady Key has been elevated to ‘Lady Bronagh’ by the press-as if her father was a peer and she had been born with a title in her own right. This ignorant error seems to be perpetrated far too often, how cringe-making. It’s as bad as saying Sir Key, which I have heard, or calling a dame Dame Surname-which I have also heard.

TBH I think I would like some NZ Leftie faux outrage about Sir John today in my twitter feed, it would be a nice distraction.

What an assumption, based upon nothing. If Patu has a good income and lifestyle, it HAS to be undeserved-of course-it always is, acoording to the Blazers of this world !

  5. Disappointing but not surprising to see this pettiness on the occasion at The Standard: Arise Sir John

    • I was impressed by the Kiwi Journalists Association on Facebook. A member posted the Google cache link to the Herald’s deleted story, and moderators very quickly removed it.

what statements cannot withstand your scrutiny….lets analyse your definition of…’dreck’.

thats a very long list of…pettiness….arise Sir John….the man that brought back….knighthoods….how is convicted felon…Sir Douglas Graham….these days?

    • If Palmer gets a knighthood then Key deserves one as well. Douglas Grahams crimes should have been more heavily punished in my view including losing his honorific. The finance company debacles were never punished as they should have been – on that we can definitely agree Bol…

  7. Sir Michael Niko Jones…… excellent. A warrior on the field, but a controlled and skilled one. And a Leader in his community since his playing days ended.

             /  June 5, 2017

You are not aware that Polynesians is a proper name.

Does Michael Jones actually endorse Carl’s Burgers and urge Polynesians to eat them ?

            • Blazer

               /  June 5, 2017

Carl’s Jr ..is that a proper name?I doubt Jones would invest in this business unless he wanted …Polynesians to …patronise it.

    Julie Christie? Really?

    • Blazer

       /  June 5, 2017

Christie is actually the most deserving …a recognition that ‘reality’ is so unreal it has finally …trumped perception….with fake news and ‘reality’ T.V the new opiate of the masses, acceptance of life as an endless magic show of political machinations and artificial values has reached its…nadir.

I’ve long since stopped reading any awards above QSM.
