NZ “plot to kill infidel”

An immigrant from Iran with Muslim parents has posted in social media of “Islam expert unravelling my plot to kill infidel”, along with the alleged accusation.

dbh-arzumaamk9h

This sort of accusation is not uncommon online, with children of Muslim immigrants sometimes to be claimed to be a particular risk.

In this case the target claims to support “Middle Eastern feminism” – yeah, right.

They have responded to the Facebook insinuation via Twitter:

Just another Islam expert unravelling my life long plot to kill infidel as back bench Green MP

Of course this is  – a Green candidate pretty much assured of becoming an MP due to her Green Party list placing.

Golriz launched her campaign online last week and has been the target of a lot of attention, I have seen some of it on Twitter.

The Facebook post above shows how absurd some of the boilerplate anti-Muslim claims are, and Golriz chose comedy and sarcasm in response, but it is an awful example of the way some believe master Muslim conspiracy theories and tar all Muslims and immigrants with the same dirty brush.

Green Party profile:

Golriz Ghahraman

Middle Eastern feminism, Green activism and work in international justice have instilled a deep commitment to defending democracy for the most vulnerable.

Golriz’s story

Golriz is an Iranian-Kiwi refugee, lucky to escape war and persecution as a child.

Her studies at Oxford, and work as a lawyer for the United Nations and in New Zealand, have focused on enforcing human rights and holding governments to account. Golriz has lived and worked in Africa, The Hague and Cambodia putting on trial world leaders for abusing their power, and restoring communities after war and human rights atrocities, particularly empowering women engaged in peace and justice initiatives.

In New Zealand, she has a successfully advocated on rights issues before the Supreme Courts, she volunteers her skills to advocate for child rights, and most recently for family carers of disabled persons. She was part of the team that worked to prepare New Zealand’s non-governmental report to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Golriz has longstanding involvement in refugee and migrant rights activism, and is a prominent member of the Iranian community.

She is active in both the legal and NGO communities, as reflected by her board memberships of: Action for Children & Youth Aotearoa; NZ Criminal Bar Association; NZ Centre for Human Rights Law & Policy; and Super Diverse Women (Superdiversity Centre for Law, Policy and Business)

Justice drives Golriz – 12 yrs of legal practice, including post-conflict trials of world leaders and in the NZ Supreme Court. Her child rights and international human rights work have required specialised government lobbying and training of Ministry staff in New Zealand and overseas.

Her expertise as a human rights and constitutional lawyer will help bring effective legislative solutions for social justice, climate and environmental issues.

Golriz plans to make history as the first ever refugee to enter New Zealand parliament as a Green MP.

I wish Golriz well, I think she has the potential to be a very good New Zealand MP, if she can put up with all the crap that seems likely to be thrown at her if her first week online is any indication.

I don’t know if Golriz is Muslim or not, and I don’t care. Religion should be kept out of politics. As an immigrant with a very strong CV Golriz adds a valuable dimension to diversity in the new Zealand parliament.

That gushing hagiography is a joke. The legal beagle/UN mandarin “restored communities” and battled “world leaders” in court. Whatever.

And what’s with all those board roles? Spreading herself extremely thin, but looks good on the CV I suppose.

    • The little woman is a looker and that alone defines her as a “winner”.

Demeaning Social Democracy and anti-feminism in action? Or, is it plain and simple misogyny?

Are you sure you a real left wing man Blazer, don’t you remember that looks are not allowed to be a factor with women candidates. Don’t you remember that a (deleted) or a (deleted) are almost required, certainly for a green candidate.

Her performance on The Nation last weekend was so abysmal i seriously wonder whether she is cut out to be a politician.

On that basis perhaps not cut out to be a politician but she is in the right party if that is the case.

      • Yes, doesn’t matter how wonderful you tell us you are, but we’ll still believe you’ve been enlisted because you represent a minority group that the Party wishes to appeal to, rather than a trailblazer.

“I don’t know if Golriz is Muslim or not, and I don’t care.”

Well you should because it makes a huge difference – Islam is political. If she is she will be angling for Sharia Law and, while that may be just fine and dandy with you, the thinking people out there know how awful it will be- especially for women.

That is ridiculous even by your bigoted standards. What do you take her and the Greens for ?

This young woman was at Oxford-no, that is not the NZ sheep station, it’s the world’s most prestigious university.

Read her impressive list of achievements, forsooth.

Then rea about Islam. To claim that she will be angling for Sharia law is as absurd as thinking that a Mormon MP will try to bring in polygamy or a Catholic one will demand that mass be said daily in the House.

Being a thinking person is useless unless one is capable of clear and intelligent thought.

      • Neither Mormons nor Catholics, as far as I am aware, have a current plan to destroy the whole of Western liberal civilisation and force its own vile, hate-addled ideology on every living human, killing all those who resist. Islam, however, clearly has.

I would claim that anyone in a liberal and secular western democracy who knowingly votes for anything that allows Islam a foot in the political door is both non-thinking and useless. It is probably appropriate she is on the Green list. I know little about the woman (I see no point in studying people I’d never endorse with a vote) and was just responding to Pete’s view that, effectively, her wider political views don’t matter.

Sharia Law has real teeth and legal standing in the Muslim community and is not a behind bedroom door activity like polygamy as the Mormons would practice it. In Germany Muslim men already have exemptions from the usual one wife standard that applies in the west. The Roman Catholic comparison is ridiculous and a poor example of relativity as its never been floated in NZ (nor anywhere else beyond a ceremony in a chapel to one side that you are free to ignore).

I think Oliver’s comment at the bottom has merit – any political roles should be limited NZers born here to éxisting NZ citizens.

As they never get into govt to actually achieve anything aren’t all Green MP’s ‘token gestures’?

How can we be sure that’s she is not an Iranian spy? Sent here to infiltrate government. We should have a blanket ban on non kiwis in government. Especially from when they’re form an enemy state.

See the difference the absence of a hijab, niqab, burka, al-amira, shayla, khimar, or a chador makes?

Now she needs to go and convince her chick-mates to do likewise.

  10. The real question has to be “Is she a New Zealand citizen”? If not, then she can not stand for Parliament. The Parliament advice is “You can only be a candidate in a general election if you are a New Zealand citizen who is enrolled as a voter and is not disqualified from enrolling (e.g. serving a prison sentence disqualifies you). You also have to be nominated as a candidate, either by the secretary of your political party or by two voters who are enrolled in your electorate.”
If she is a New Zealand citizen, then she would have taken an Oath of Allegence. The Oath says “”I, [name], swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Her heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God.”
But wait, there is much more. The Oath taken to become a citizen of New Zealand is :

“”I, [full name], swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her (or His) Majesty [specify the name of the reigning Sovereign, as thus: Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of New Zealand,] Her (or His) heirs and successors, according to law, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of New Zealand and fulfil my duties as a New Zealand citizen.
    So help me God.”

That precludes observance of Sharia or any other religious law from taking eminence over the Law of New Zealand. So those who insist on observing Sharia or any other religious precepts, on becoming a New Zealand citizen lose any right to claim observance of that other Law or Lore.

True, but Muslims probably have the same obligations to follow the law of the US, Spain, France, Britain. What use was that to anyone killed by Muslim terrorist attackers, some even born there?

       /  June 7, 2017

I’m not sure you are correct there colonel. The thing seems to be fairly loose. Didnt Muslim MP Ashraf Choudhary take the oath of allegiance on the Koran. MPs can either affirm their allegiance to the Queen, or swear an oath on the Bible or “in any other manner which the person taking it may declare to be binding on him”. In other words worthless. Cheers,c

I seem to recall that ‘swearing oaths’, is prohibited to Christians. I could be wrong. What I do know, is that bullshitting to the ‘infidels’, is entirely permissible to Islamic folk….
