  1. Watch CNN Supervising Producer caught by undercover camera calling BS on the Russia/Trump fake news. Hot on the heels of them being forced to retract a made up story – not their best look.

John Bonifield is a supervising producer for CNN Health, not any of the areas writing about Trump-Russia.

The video is from James O’Keefe, a conservative activist who has received money from the Trump Foundation and has had to settle a lawsuit for invasion of privacy in the past. He’s also known for heavily editing his videos, which certainly seems to be occurring here.

      • So? Bonifield is a Supervising Producer who attends the relevant meetings. IS this not a recording of a CNN Producer?

There is far more evidence to support his premise than anything ever alleged re Trump and Russia. Fact, three CNN writer/producer/editors have been fired because they fabricated or reproduced fabricated fake news. Fact, there is no evidence produced to support Trump?Russia collusion – zero-zip. There is evidence Obama and the FBI knew about RUSSIAN propaganda long before it all became Trump centred. This a liberal press beat up and I believe the American people are beginning to see it.

Traveller: Supervising Producer who attends the relevant meetings. IS this not a recording of a CNN Producer?

Sure, he’s a CNN Producer. Don’t know if he attends the relevant meetings. He certainly seems more like he’s spouting opinion in the linked video, rather than speaking from a place of certainty. We also don’t know what caveats he might have provided, which we can expect this conservative activist would have cut from their published video.

T: “Fact, three CNN writer/producer/editors have been fired because they fabricated or reproduced fabricated fake news.”

False: the reasons for their firing are that they published a story without going through the usual editorial standards practices. CNN then fired them, formally retracted the story, and issued an apology. Surely this speaks volumes to the high quality of journalism they are trying to maintain?

T: “Fact, there is no evidence produced to support Trump?Russia collusion – zero-zip.”

Mostly false. I’ll concede that we don’t have any hard evidence that Trump himself colluded with Russia. What we do have is hard evidence of at least 18 contacts between the Trump campaign and Russia, proven Russian links from many members of his campaign and administration (Carter Page, Roger Stone, Mike Flynn, Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort), and plenty of lying about all these links.

T: There is evidence Obama and the FBI knew about RUSSIAN propaganda long before it all became Trump centred.

I’ve discussed this issue at length here: https://yournz.org/2017/06/27/world-watch-tuesday-3/#comment-197336

If you believe the 3 of them resigned simply because one story was “published … without going through the usual editorial standards practices.” I have a bridge to sell you.

Tell me more about this bridge. Why do you think they resigned?

The story was made up – fabricated – and they got caught.
One of the writers had written a previous story that Comey had ‘personally informed him’ he was going to contradict Trump’s assertion he was not under investigation at the Senate hearings. He was 100% wrong on that too.
CNN also had a story earlier this year restating the NYT story on Russia connections that Comey stated was completely factually incorrect in the senate hearings.

Ok, so my interpretation is that CNN are trying to maintain high journalistic standards by removing journalists who don’t uphold editorial practices. Excellent.

              That is a charitable view.
You could also say they are cauterizing and embarrassment and hoping that a lot of their other stories don’t get caught out the same way.
CNN moved away from high journalistic standards and into the realms of activism long ago.

@HFD I’m not particularly a fan of CNN, but I certainly don’t think this particular event gives any weight to Trump’s continued attempts to discredit the entire media (a common tactic of authoritarians).

I would say it gives at least an element of weight to his claims, but you are right – it doesn’t suddenly make all media wrong.
However, when you tie it in with the NYT article on Russian collusion that was outed by Comey and the WaPo article on Russia hacking the Vermont energy grid which it rewrote without noting this fact before having to admit the article was wrong and having to fully retract, plus the WaPo article on Trump providing classified information to the Russians in a meeting, which has been discredited and not able to be verified in any way, and you have to admit there is a broad theme emerging of Russia = Ratings and truth be damned.

  2. I thought that the ‘Boaty’ craze was stupid, but this is kind of ok.
