NZ First rules for candidates

A tweet on the expected announcement that Shane Jones will be standing for NZ First in Whangarei:

It actually doesn’t matter how long Jones has been in the party.

From the NZ First constitution:

44. Nomination of Candidates
(a) A member nominated as an Electorate candidate must have been a full and financial member for at least six months as at the date of nomination; and a member shall not be eligible for selection as a List candidate unless the member has been a full and financial member for at least six months.

(b) The Board may in its discretion waive any of the requirements in the
preceding article 44(a)

So 44(a) is a pointless rule.

And it has been waived apparently:

  1. The New Zealand First rules are whatever Winston Peters dictates them to be. If Peters told the Board to waive Rule 44(a), the board members will have done as instructed.

As much as I detest Peters’ xenophobic politics going back to the “rows of ostentatious houses” speech in Howick more than 20 years ago, I have to admire the level of control he has over NZF. I can’t imagine anyone else, even Jones, being able to control the masses in the way Peters does.

Absolutely. There has never been the slightest doubt that candidates, policies, & principles serve always, & only, at His Majesty’s pleasure.

It astonds me that people vote for this circus of clowns.

The new (?) NZ F slogan sounds very like Trump’s one. Coincidence ? Yeah, right.
