Auckland Indian leader defects from Labour to National

From Missy:

I was alerted to this article via David Farrar at Kiwiblog:

Politik:  Community leader walks out of Labour and joins National

A prominent Indian leader, Sunny Kaushal, has defected from Labour to National as he feels that Labour are not tough enough on law and order.

The Indian Weekender says that Kaushal’s defection meant that the leaders within the community who had first hand connection with the Labour Party during the Helen Clark and Phil Goff leadership were gradually slipping into political oblivion under the current Labour leadership.

It will be interesting to see how this impacts the vote in the Indian community in Auckland, especially if Sunny Kaushal has influence or standing within the community.

I see some parallels here – to a degree – with Labour in the UK and the Jewish Community. In the UK the Jewish community have traditionally been mainly Labour supporters, but many now feel marginalised by Labour and are shifting their support away from them through abstention or shifting their vote to other parties.

The Kiwiblog article: A key defection from Labour to National

Kaushal is very well connected in the Indian community and his defection could be quite significant.

It will be interesting to see where Kaushal ends up on the National Party list, in particular whether it’s a winnable placement.

National would be stupid not to put him in a winnable place on the list, if they put him too far down then they will be giving the same message as Labour, which I wouldn’t think would play well to the community.

    • I agree. It could be tricky though, as there are a lot of National MPs, and the odds are on fewer of them after the election.

In October 2016 Labour announced the would increase police numbers by 1000 if elected.

National responded to this in February 2017 saying that, although NZ was the 4th safest country in the world they would increase police numbers by a similar amount if re-eected.

Law and Order always gets trotted out at election time.

This chap obviously sees the writing on the wall. I agree with Missy. National must show themselves to be lavish benefactors for those who want to embrace the ‘National Way.’
That said, National have nothing to crow about regarding law and order. Diary owners have been left defenceless. So I guess this chap can’t rely on their support. Or can he?

What measures do you think the government could introduce to protect dairy owners?

Allow them to bear arms for protection. Such could only be used within the confines of a dairy, and any shop holding arms would have to display a sign saying so. Customers would then understand should a robbery happen, they may become collateral damage.

Maybe allow tasers and laser blinders. Change the law so no diary owner can be charged with either manslaughter or murder so he defend himself against robbery or attack.

Mainpoint- allow self defence at any cost.

No, too powerful. A Snub nose .22 with limited range, and admittedly stopping power will do the trick.

However, .22 will get your attention if you’re shot in the head.

I want none of the bs this guy demonstrates at the beginning of this clip

I hope NZ never gets to have the same mental (crazy) attitude as gun-mad USA

Have no worries, we let our citizens die without the right of self defence.
