Trump meets Putin

A much anticipated meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin has taken place at the G20 meeting in Hamburg. This may have been better done separately so as not to overshadow the G20, but both Putin and Trump seem to like being the focus of attention.

U.S. President Donald Trump told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday that it was an “honor” to meet him for the first time and said he looked forward to “positive things” in the relationship between the former Cold War rivals.

Trump and Putin spoke through translators with their respective foreign ministers present for six minutes before reporters were allowed into the room for their statements. Afterwards the reporters were ushered out and the meeting continued.

“President Putin and I have been discussing various things, and I think it’s going very well,” Trump told reporters, sitting alongside the Russian leader.

“We’ve had some very, very good talks. We’re going to have a talk now and obviously that will continue. We look forward to a lot of very positive things happening for Russia, for the United States and for everybody concerned. And it’s an honor to be with you.”

Putin, through a translator, said: “We spoke over the phone with you several times,” adding: “A phone conversation is never enough.”

“I am delighted to be able to meet you personally, Mr. President,” he said, noting that he hoped the meeting would yield results.

The body language here seems to tell it’s own story:

Putin has been dealing in international politics for a long tome, Trump is the apprentice.

There is sure to be more reporting and PR on the Trump-Putin meeting.

      That was easy, eh, Vlad?
      Watch him, though, he’s unpredictable.

Well, if Trump believes that, he’ll believe anything .

(wide-eyed and innocent) How is this their first meeting ? Trump told the world that he had met Putin in Russia, had become friendly with him and been on something like 20/20 with him.

Trump is on video saying it ! Or ratherm saying them-the stories changed. But he can’t say it’s fake news, unless he’s admitting that he’s the one doing it.

    • On the last scene in the above cartoon. Have any of you seen a Netflix series called OCCUPIED?

This household binged on it and very much liked it. Set in the near future Russia effectively occupies Norway after a progressive/Greens Govt comes up with an oil alternative and shuts down production and export of the black gold.

I was interested by the posture of the two-legs as wide apart as they could go.

How does Trump explain the three stories about his knowing Trump-meeting him, knowing him well and getting along well with him, never meeting him before ? They cannot all be true.

The old ‘never put it in writing’ rule could be expanded to include ‘never say it on camera.’

The old, old saying about how liars should have good memories is a true one.

Even cursory look at the videos of Trump saying it will prove that this is not fake news, except in the sense that Trump was faking a relationship that didn’t exist, He began saying it in 2013, and kept on saying it i various forms. The videos are still there and can b seen by anyone who cares to look. Try The Washington Post’s recent chronology. Are you saying that this was a Trump impersonator in all of them ? If so, why ?

Snopes does urban myths, not real stories.

  6. “Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that “Television Trump” is very different from the real President Trump.

“As I see it, Television Trump is very different from the real person,” Putin said Saturday at a press conference. “He is absolutely concrete, absolutely adequately perceives the interlocutor, quite quickly analyzes, answers questions or draws from the discussions some new elements.

“As regards personal relations, I think they are established,” the Russian president stated.”

While it’s early days to assess the results & any foreign policy deals arising from this meeting, they are both strong nationalists, & it’s become increasingly clear to me that both Mad Dog Mattis & T-Rex Tillerson are very intelligent, cautious, diplomatic, people who are growing in their jobs very quickly, trav. He’s got sound advisers in those two, imo.

That’s a worry. Does this mean that the Trump we see on the news and Twitter by extension and the Trump that people voted for when all they saw was his campaign videos is not the real thing ?

How can anyone be totally different on and off-camera unless they’re an actor, of course ?

How does Trump keep up the persona-and why does he ?

Is Television Trump a fake Trump ?

No it means Putin says one thing and others say something else. It’s subjective, as is anything that’s not an absolute

          • Not at all. I consider him an oafish bloke. However just because I don’t like him personally, it doesnt mean I accept every made up drama, hypothesis and worse as truths.

Your last sentence would be offensive were it not simply more of your conjecture and going from one to a hundred without counting in between.

I said ‘it seems’. Do you know what that word means ?

Do you really think that all the videos of him claiming to know Putin, even supposedly appearing on 60 Minutes with him, are made up ? If so, who was the person who looked and sounded exactly like Trump, and why has nothing been done about this ?
