Looks like the Russians did take out al-Baghdadi:

In other news Trump and Putin are crushing ISIS. But the loony Left are excited because Trump’s son talked to a Russian once.

“But the loony Left are excited because Trump’s son talked to a Russian once.”

Why are you trying to minimise this?

           /  July 12, 2017

That article was written before Trump Jr released the email chain. From my perspective this makes “powerlineblog.com” and you both look even more biased in your minimisation of Trump Jr’s quite concerning behaviour.

I’m really interested in your interpretation of the following, so I’ll avoid colouring it with my own, for now.

How does that all make you feel, Alan?

“How does that all make you feel, Alan?” Bored. Trump’s campaign was interested in Clinton’s Russian dealings. So what? Clinton’s campaign was just as interested in Trump’s Russian dealings. And the loony Left are utterly obsessed with them.

“I’m really interested in your interpretation of the following” As above.

“Trump’s campaign was interested in Clinton’s Russian dealings.”

They agreed to meet with the Crown prosecutor of Russia to obtain information to help the Trump campaign. (not to mention the lies, attacks on the media, and bulk of circumstantial evidence).

” Clinton’s campaign was just as interested in Drumpf’s Russian dealings. And the loony Left are utterly obsessed with them.”

Seems like whataboutism. If Clinton were president, and published this email thread, I would also have a huge problem with her. I suspect you would too, since she’s not from your ideological team.

@Mefro: “Drumpf’s” – your shiny white objectivity mask is slipping.

“the Crown Prosecutor of Russia” – What? Russia only has one? How on earth does it keep its jails full? See my link above for a bit of reality.

Nope, I wouldn’t care less if Clinton published a similar email trail. Compared with sabotaging a Democrat rival’s campaign from inside the supposedly impartial party administration it’s beyond banal and trivial.

“”the Crown Prosecutor of Russia” – What? Russia only has one? How on earth does it keep its jails full?”

Stop deflecting. Goldstone used the definite article, so I did also.

Your link tells the story in all its reality: “The New York Times on Monday reported that Drumpf Jr. was told in an email before the meeting that the information Veselnitskaya had was part of a Russian government effort to help his father’s candidacy. On Tuesday, Drumpf Jr. tweeted his email chain showing him making plans to meet with her — and confirming the Times report.”

Not banal. Concerning, and quite possibly illegal.

My reading of this is that it is evidence that completely refutes the Russia narrative – a one off meeting where information was supposed to be delivered by a Russian and nothing came of it.
If there had been campaign collusion would not the organisation and delivery of incriminating information be a lot slicker than this one off and mistaken escapade suggests?
As Trump Jr has said – a meeting in which incriminating information about an opponent is handed over is politics as usual, not scandal.
And the fact the claim was just a subterfuge for the Lawyer to bang on about adoption policies further discredits the narrative. It simply would not happen had there actually been any form of organised collusion.

Actually the Iraqis & the Kurds & Arabs are crushing ISIS, Trump has a few planes bombing the shit out of their buildings & takng out civilians with them. The locals are doing the hard yards & taking the casualties. Putin’s aircraft are bombing ISIS sometimes and other Assad opponents other times – mostly the latter – and doing quite a bit of ethno-religious cleansing.
      Mosul is destroyed.

      • Gezza

         /  July 12, 2017

Also, its very likely ISIS isn’t destroyed. They’ve been slipping out to go elsewhere from both Raqqa & Mosul, according to some Aljazeera reports last night.

ISIS – and Al Qeda for that matter are a bit like Whack-a-mole. Get rid of them in one place and they pop up in another.
That shouldn’t stop them trying though, as if left alone you get a very strong mole with very big bombs.

The Iraqi’s and Kurds are only able to do what they do due to the US and Russian aid and training they receive. And they wouldn’t be doing it if it was not necessary, so you could argue the Western and Russian influence is reducing the level of carnage there would be if they were not providing aid.

          • Gezza

             /  July 12, 2017

I accept there’s no other way to root ISIS out of cities but to totally destroy them. That’s obvious. They have plenty of dumbass uneducated indoctrinated suicide fighters from all over Islamadom. The ones with the brains & the military/tactical training are not there.

          • Gezza

             /  July 12, 2017

And Russia is not reducing the level of carnage it is actively participating in it.

      • Alan Wilkinson

         /  July 12, 2017

Got a friend visiting Lebanon at present – used to work there. Beirut has been destroyed – without US help. Yes, the locals are doing the hard yards and there is factional cleansing going on. But the destruction of ISIL’s territorial control also heavily impacts their resources and their recruitment appeal.

It also raises the risk of their causing havoc in other countries & retaliation in the West. Caliphates can be established anywhere, & aren’t necessary for either ISIS or Al Qaeda to continue to wreak havic. It looks to me like the Saudis are trying to build a Caliphate in all but name now. T-rex is onto that in Qatar. Dunno if Trump is. Tillerson probably doesn’t know if Trump’s on to it either & needs to daily check the tweets, tv appearances, & press briefings by Trump to see whether he’s just undercut him again.

Trump’s media war is just an alt-reality that has nothing whatever to do with what his real political actions are doing.

I’m not talking about his media war I’m talking about his mercuriality.

               /  July 12, 2017

I don’t see much sign that his apparent mercuriality affects his policy goals.

My assessment of whether Trump achieves his & Bibi’s foreign foreign policy goals & whether they are overally beneficial or otherwise to America (& to whoever it engages with) will be carried out at the end of his term.
