Q+A – Mike King on youth suicide

This should be a good interview on Q+A this morning:

Mental health campaigner Mike King talks to Jessica Mutch about our shocking rate of youth suicide. And why not everyone agrees on how to address it.

“The first thing that has to change is public attitude” and starting to value young people.

“My generation is the problem”.

I’ll quote more of King’s final panel comment, it needs to be looked at more.

Its good to see these shameful things being spoken of (rather than brushed under the carpet) by a Govt. who refuses to accept we have:

    1) highest youth suicide rate,
    2) top 1-2 youth drug use
    3) amongst highest youth not in work, training, education
    4) lowest home ownership, esp. among <35 yrs ever
    5) a housing crisis; ie families living in cars
    6) mind the huge gap folks
    7) a Govt. that tends to 'blow their trumpet' over the overall economic picture, but rarely mentions that 60% of nations wealth is controlled by less than 10% & they only pay about 38% tax on it.. ie the lowest quartiles pay more tax percentage-wise 😦
    deny it all you like..

That’s all you needed to post.

Agree. Time to stop introducing irrelevant rants Zedd. Your good & valid points get lost in the stuff that’s not on point because it just looks like you’re just a National hater – end of story. If you can’t see anything but negatives in this government, you’re not looking closely enuff.
