Already the same old from Little

I’m listening to Andrew Little now on RNZ, and all I am hearing is the same old campaign sloganeering.

Of course he has been asked about him admitting he considered quitting. Little repeatedly tries to divert from this. But he can’t undo what he has said and what he offered to do.

He can’t undo the fact that no one else in Labour wants to captain a sinking ship.

He is back to trying to speak just like he was speaking last week, as if nothing has changed.

If he doesn’t change drastically and quickly then the only thing likely to change is support for Labour, in a negative way.

Repeating the same mistakes won’t turn things around.

Ouch.

Little just said ‘at 24% you don’t get to form a government”.

And on The Standard Espiner is being blasted for an unfair interview, in the comments thread here:

  1. It’s hard to imagine who would think that a leader capitulating being a deliberate throw of the dice.

It has grabbed the spotlight of Metiria and the Greens, but promoting disarray and despondency is a very strange play.

Yep, it was a terrible interview.

Admitting that no-one else wants the Leadership, tell us all that no-one in Labour knows how to climb out of the hole they are in. Coupled with the admission that they have no money for electoral advertising…. may as well just pull the duvet over themselves and go back to bed.

I felt like that this morning; the promised frost didn’t come, but it was/is bloody cold.

The Greens, of course, pull up sheets woven from hemp and blankets made from recycled wool.

Andrew is a very nice guy & a dedicated foot-soldier for the good guys & the little guys. But he’s no general, & we all saw him, badly wounded, last night, on tv when he basically laid down his rifle, surrounded by enemies & untrustworthy allies, & surrendered. There is only a campaign of retreating, still firing, & trying to avoid too many troops getting captured, to look forward to.

True dat G. Nice guys finish last

Politics is a brutal, dirty business. Where have we heard this before…

I don’t know him but my default position is one of not thinking he is a nice guy. He’s living in a union indoctrinated past and wants to inflict misery on a majority to line the pockets of unions. I hate that idea and have no time for those who preach it.

That would be the most pointless question I’ve ever been asked.

If the world was square, and its axis wasn’t tilted, would you live in the top half or the bottom half, & why? 😳

Browny mate, do you mind me asking if my previous question is no longer the most pointless question you’ve ever been asked? 😳

I was actually going somewhere with that, & that one was just to set the narrative, so to speak. But I’m sure we can pick up another time when I can link it more directly to your Christianity, because it fascinates me that you say you’re Christian.

Pressure, unrelenting pressure. You always find the true person when they are under pressure. Even National and Winston are bound to make some clangers pre election. The difference is ( hopefully) they have political savings to draw on. Andy hasn’t.

Who on earth is advising Little?
Does Labour have any strategists/ PR whizzes?

    • Gezza

       /  July 31, 2017

No. I would make myself available, but my fee would be enormous, due to the sheer amount of fretting, travellng, headbanging & concrete-shoes work that would be required to even attempt to rescue this lot from complete oblivion.

I might even seek advice during the process from Corky, although I would vet it very carefully, in case it should turn out he didn’t really have their best interests at heart.

The trouble with the Left is that Labour have no thinkers and the Greens have no doers. Mana have thinkers and doers but both are isolated in their ghetto.

  9. So that leaves us TOP to go forward with and UBI to look forward to

Little gets trounced twice in succession in his ‘home town’ electorate of New Plymouth and then the Labour fish heads decide he is the one to win over the New Zealand public in a general election?

With that sort of reasoning Labour deserve all that they get come election day.

    • MaureenW

       /  July 31, 2017

Can’t win in New Plymouth, but somehow he’s going to be the Prime Minister. Light-bulb moment .. pair him with Jacinta, that’ll be the game changer. Speaking of game-changers and Matt McCarten, he’s gone ‘orribly quiet ferretting out that missing million for Labour.
What a hopeless bunch and what a sad election for New Zealand.

  11. I have no problem with Andrew Little. He leads by consensus and that is good. My problem is the word LABOUR. So old and out of date that word. Labour needs a new name that says “we stand for an egalitarian society” because that is what National is destroying in New Zealand.

    • PDB

       /  July 31, 2017

I agree – a more modern, suitable & representative name for the party in 2017 is ‘LABOURING’.

    • Gezza

       /  July 31, 2017

Absolutely agree. Been saying that for yonks! Also need to dump the red.
Basicalky, time for a new Party. Social Democrats, summat like ‘at.

    • MaureenW

       /  July 31, 2017

I don’t think Labour is any more Labour, than National is National. The Labour Party has destroyed its own brand. They could have called themselves Coca Cola, and voters would be preferring Fanta. The matter that Winston Peters has got his foot back in the door is very telling about the quality of all political parties in NZ at the moment.

        Winston is still Winston.

      • Gezza

         /  July 31, 2017

Yes, but Maureen the thing about ‘National’ is its a good, solid, all-encompassing, nationalistic-flavoured Brand Name. That Party can go in any direction it wants to & not have to change the Brand Name.

Labour means workers. Employees. Not Employers. Not everybody. Subliminally, it’s an exclusive-flavoured Brand Name.
