Message to The Standard

I had a wee dabble at The Standard yesterday, and was on the receiving end (again) of it’s resident dirty attacks. Some of it is so pathetic it is hilarious – at one stage I was called a liar for posting a published poll result but not linking to what eventually turned out to be a completely irrelevant poll – that is with ‘adam’ here.

Other dirty activists had attacked as usual – in particular the regulars ‘One Anonymous Bloke’ and Robert Guyton who happen to be Green supporters (and have been doing it for years), and also the ever bitter ‘marty mars’ who doesn’t seem to have a party extreme enough to support these days.

So I responded, and as ‘weka’ (another Green supporter) is likely to waste her time doing something in response I’ll also repeat it here.

I think it’s worth repeating this (in Open Mike 06/08/2017) here, a response to marty mars: (on another thread where it happened):

“contributes to a toxic environment for the left here with his incessant fault finding and attack posts against the left”

Very funny – or do you actually believe that?

I only occasionally post here. You and a few others frequently post here, creating a toxic environment of the left, attacking many people you judge to not be suitably left, or something.

You (collectively) deter far more people from voting left than i ever will, because they are not the right sort of left for you, not left enough, or just that you make an ill-informed judgement.

I first came to The Standard thinking it would be a good place to join in the rebuilding of Labour after Clark lost in 2008 and then departed Parliament. I was mistaken. This has been a toxic, small minded, dirty unwelcoming place.

There are good people here, and interesting comments at times, but it has been dominated by persistent petty regulars who burn off anyone deemed some sort of enemy.

It has changed, probably because more moderate centre-ish people have been driven away or can’t be bothered with the toxicity.

What is obvious now that, while there may be a few Labour try-hards, the dirty politics here is now dominated by non-Labour supporters like marty mars, OAB, Robert Guyton, who all regularly and persistently attack anyone deemed some sort of enemy.

It’s pathetic, and it’s counter productive. Even if there is some intent to drive off potential Labour voters that is cutting off your nose to spite your face, and certainly won’t encourage people to vote Green or Mana.

This is a toxic environment without me, I just pop in occasionally to see if anything has changed. Obviously not.

I’ve voted both Green and Labour, but I and I think many others who pass by here certainly wouldn’t encouraged to do so again by the bitter and twisted attack dweebs who dominate threads here.

Ardern and Davis have given the first sign in a decade that Labour may be able to climb back into prominence again. But it looks like they will struggle to get any help here with so much toxic self destruction further to the left going on.

If Labour supporters (and anyone genuinely wanting a change of government) want to do something positive to rebuild the party they should stand up more to the crap perpetuated by a few spoilers here.

I think Weka is working overtime at the moment as she jumps on the smallest criticism of Saint Metiria.

A wonder you haven’t been banned again Pete.

    • I’ve just come off another weka ban.

Perhaps coincidentally weka has put up a post this morning: Lefties on The Standard

An experimental post on The Standard, providing a discussion space for left-wing people only.

      The rules are:

      – To comment you have to be left wing.

      – No personal attacks at all (not even if they are hidden in comments with good political points)

      – Be kind. If you can’t be kind at least don’t be mean.

      – Bear in mind the part of the Policy about not using language or tone that excludes others.

I’m nolt sure whether peeople get to decide for themselves whether they are left wing or not, or if weka rules.

Those are highly ironic rules, given that weka breaks them often in general threads, and supports others breaking them frequently.

This post by her makes it clear that she wants rules enforcing niceness between those on ‘the left’, but for anyone deemed outside their circle the rules can be broken at will. She often breaks her own rules.

I like the last one, ‘…not using language or tone that excludes others’. Doesn’t the whole post exclude others?

Shows the true nature of lefty politics, not at all tolerant or inclusive, rather exclusive and insular, not to mention only wishing to engage with like minded people.

I wonder what threatens her about alternative opinions? maybe that they show what a narrow minded bigot she is.

        • I’d like to add that the nastiness, the hypocrisy and an underpinning meanness of spirit within the Labour Party were the reason I eventually gave up on the left. I found far more kindness, care and genuine charity within the National Party than I ever did within Labour.

  5. One of the arguments advanced in the interests of ethical equivalence over at thedoublestandard is the “what about Todd Barclay” one. The context and disingenuity with respect to the Turei incident is bemusing.

The left have hammered on about Turei’s youthful indiscretion until I’ve become quite deaf to it. Where were they when it came to defending the man child Barclay? Au contraire, it’s been nothing but hatred and vented spleen towards him. Hell, he only just turned 27 this June ffs. I can only assume he’d barely made a quarter of a century when he allegedly taped his employee! We’re supposed to cut Ms T a break when she not only brazenly committed multiple acts of fraud, but did so until she was at least 28 years of age and then we’re supposed to understand why she continued to lie about said theft well into her 40s -decades after she’d become part of the 1%.

Why can the left never see their gross hypocrisy or exhibit any kindness to youthful acts on the right? The doublestandard were revolting towards Max Key, they literally revelled in any negative connotations they could bleat about. They’ve been scathing of David Garrett’s youthful indiscretion. Kind people apply a broader stroke of care to all youth, not just when their own champions are found to have feet of clay.

Also, some on the left keep on about Paula Bennett saying she should resign, despite the fact she has not admitted to fraud and to date (as far as I am aware) there is no actual evidence – beyond the ramblings of some guy who doesn’t agree with her politics and was a child at the time.

The hypocrisy with this is greater than usual.

      • The left are found compromised in their moral subjectivity. It’s a universal leftist trait that literally any means can be justifiably employed to meet an end.

        Red Logix over at thedoublestandard.

“Really no-one, absolutely no-one gives a shit about whether Turei received a bit of extra dosh she wasn’t technically entitled to decades ago..”

Au contraire the problem for the left is that workers and Joe and Jane Blow strugglers actually do “give a shit”. There really wouldn’t be this fuss if they didn’t.

To most people RL’s “wasn’t technically entitled to” translates to “stole”. Most people regard Turei as nothing better than a common thief. She’s not seen as a hard done by struggling beneficiary. Especially as more detail of the breadth of her offending comes to the fore.

Hitching any sort of a horse to her welfare fraud wagon won’t have a good outcome.

          Exactly.

I noticed on one of the posts (can’t remember which) Jeremy tried to point this out to them, but alas they were deaf to what he was saying, despite it being quite accurate. Apparently because there is support for Turei in Green blogs online everyone supports her. The idiots are spending too long in their own little echo chambers insulated from the real world, time they stepped out and actually listened to what others are saying.

“There are good people here, and interesting comments at times, but it has been dominated by persistent petty regulars who burn off anyone deemed some sort of enemy” was a good way of putting it.

It’s sort of like walking into a pub to see what it’s like and it turns out to be a Head Hunters headquarters. There might be some reasonable human beings there with rational thoughts but the chance of civility showing through is small, the leaders of the pack see to that.
Then you go to Kiwiblog and its the same but different. Same exercise but it’s the Mongrel Mob.

TS defines a troll as anyone who plays devil’s advocate or who presents a different point of view. The irony is that they couldn’t spot a true troll if it bit them on the ass and I should know, I’ve trolled them a few times. The trick is to wrap whatever point you want to make in Left-speak.

For example instead of pointing out how MT had time to go out and campaign for a political party say something like “I hate it how these uncaring right wingers think that just because MT campaigned for McGillyCuddly and her mother-in-law was Anne Hartley, and got her law school fees paid for, that she wasn’t living in poverty!”
