TE AO MĀORI 9 Aug 2017
Wānanga fight for right to seek university status
A bill to give whare wānanga Māori the right to call themselves universities has met fierce opposition from the country’s existing institutions..
There are currently three whare wānanga Māori, which offer a range of qualifications including bachelor, master and doctoral degrees.

Tertiary institutions with a strong focus on tikanga and kaupapa Māori are recognised under the 1989 Education Act.

Victoria University vice chancellor Grant Guilford said that was not enough to give them university status.

“The predominance of research at university is expected to be much higher, the staff at university are primarily concerned with more advanced learning, and research and teaching are closely interdependent.

Then this year we can add the attack on Whare Wānanga by a bunch of overly entitled universities led by overly privileged white men who assume that white knowledge is the only knowledge worthy of transmission in a higher education context.

This is old. They want to be called universities because universities are tertiary education and so are they.

This is all As are Bs, ergo all Bs are As false logic.

Universities do not have short courses for security guards and such things, nor do they teach weaving.

The idea that universities are run by white men can be easily refuted and shown to be utter nonsense.

  3. I am sick of the degradation of status in NZ tertiary institutions. Auckland, Dunedin, Canterbury and Victoria are Universities fgs. The others are educators to the others that invariably don’t meet the entry requirements of the aforesaid.

A Waikato Comms grad as leader of the Labour Party. Sheesh. Lange would shiver in his grave. ( a tad chubby to turn!)

Mikey Hoskings confirmed at 8.11 am that he’s the best qualified to moderate the upcoming leaders debate.

His team trolled social media to see if Mikey had any support. They found little.

Conclusion: While Righties are keeping the engine room of this country ticking over, Lefties are on social media.

Speaking of the leaders debates: they are Theatre of a type, and as such have some entertainment value. But beyond that all that is really established is who has the best memory and debating skills; surely not the two most important requirements for a Prime Minister??

This study wont be welcomed by some in the medical fraternity. It’s too simple. Taking vitamin B3 may cut birth defects and other associated problems.

The question needs to be asked- why would women need to take this supplement when dieticians tell us we get all the nutrients we need from a balanced diet?

My doctor is one of the few who recommend Vitamin D for his patients. Our Health Ministry refuses to pay for Vitamin D tests, even though research confirms taking Vitamin D is essential for many people. Convert that into dollars and you are talking of billions saved on healthcare.

In highlights from Annette Kings valedictory speech she talked about clearing the way for peanuts to be irradiated. Much of our food is now irradiated. Like microwave ovens , the long term effects are unknown. Some studies urged caution before such technology was given the green light. But it would seem, like climate change, politicians only go by consensus opinion. Inconvenient research to the contrary, is well, inconvenient, and should be ignored.

    • I’m a serious Vit D gobbler. That and garlic.

How do you take the garlic – supplements?

        • I eat a lot of it but I also supplement. Kyolic.

I’m firmly of the belief I get sick when I slack off the two

If you are taking 500 IU a day, that’s OK. If you are taking over 1000 IU per day, take it in conjunction with K2 to stop calcification of the arteries.

Not quite right. They ignore him and get on with the job. However, when he delivers an excutive order they had better listen or risk serious charges.

We always see the black perspective of American police shootings of back suspects.

Here’s the other side. Once bitten twice shy.

Here’s a kiwi prick that should have been shot at the scene to save us the trouble.

    Look at the pictures, folks.

Mikey’s tip from tonight’s show. Cook broccoli with mustard and increase the nutrient uptake X10.
