Charlottesville erupts

Tensions brewing for some time in the US have erupted in Charlottesville.

CNN:  Virginia governor to white nationalists: ‘Go home … shame on you’

One person was killed and 19 were hurt when a speeding car slammed into a throng of counterprotesters in Charlottesville, where a “Unite the Right” rally of white nationalist and other right-wing groups had been scheduled take place, the city tweeted on its verified account.

A 32-year-old woman was killed while walking across the street, Charlottesville Police Chief Al Thomas said. Police were still in the process of notifying her family.

Two Virginia State Patrol troopers were killed in a helicopter crash while “assisting public safety resources with the ongoing situation in Charlottesville,” the agency said in a news release. The pilot, Lt. H. Jay Cullen, 48, and Trooper Berke M.M. Bates, who would have turned 41 on Sunday, died in the crash.

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe had a pointed message for the right-wing groups that flocked to Charlottesville on Saturday: “Go home. … You are not wanted in this great commonwealth. Shame on you.”

In addition to the one death and 19 injuries in the car-ramming incident, the city said there were at least 15 other injuries associated with the scheduled rally.

Federal authorities said a civil rights investigation into the deadly crash was opened hours after it happened.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said U.S. Attorney Rick Mountcastle is leading the investigation and has the full support of the Deparment of Justice.

“The violence and deaths in Charlottesville strike at the heart of American law and justice. When such actions arise from racial bigotry and hatred, they betray our core values and cannot be tolerated,” Sessions said in a statement. “Justice will prevail.”

“The FBI will collect all available facts and evidence, and as this is an ongoing investigation we are not able to comment further at this time,” said a statement from the Richmond, Virginia FBI field office.

“I am heartbroken that a life has been lost here. I urge all people of good will — go home,” Mayor Mike Signer wrote on Twitter.

Virginia’s governor had earlier declared an emergency, and police worked to disperse hundreds of protesters in the college town after clashes broke out ahead of the rally’s scheduled noon ET start.

Fistfights and screaming matches erupted Saturday, barely 12 hours after a scuffle Friday night at the nearby University of Virginia between torch-bearing demonstrators and counterprotesters.

It was just a matter of time before things got ugly in the US.

There can be no further delusions nor any more comforting lies. “America” and the supposed “freedoms” guaranteed by its Constitution are as relevant today as the Holy Roman Empire’s claims to sovereignty or the head of the House of Stuart boasting about being King of England.

In Charlottesville, Virginia, the police department openly attacked a demonstration in defense of European-American heritage. They did these despite the Unite The Right rally having secured a permit (after legal action) and having every right to host its peaceful demonstration in defense of the Robert E. Lee statue.

“Antifa,” the openly communist, anti-white and violent thugs who exist solely to attack European-Americans, were out in force in the city, using the cowardly tactics they specialize in: spraying demonstrators with mace, throwing bottles and bricks, and attacking people with weapons (including a homemade flamethrower).

      It gets better further on,

      • We must be thinking of two different events-the one I saw was a scene of violence and killing, neo-Nazis with automatic weapons, helicopter brought down….

But it’s not Unite The Right that is “dividing” America. Whites who aren’t comfortable with being dispossessed in every single Western country, or with seeing the symbols of their heritage wiped out, gathered to protest peacefully.

And simply by speaking out against these perverse policies, they are accused of “division.” And for their trouble, they were attacked by an alliance of both law enforcement and Antifa.

Why should Unite The Right apologize for anything? Indeed, how can the “Far Right” be regarded as anything other than an incredibly moderate protest movement against a deliberate campaign of genocide?

genocide is a bit strong but is not without foundation:
One demographer, who does not want to be named for fear of being called racist, says: ‘It’s a matter of pure arithmetic that, if nothing else happens, non-Europeans will become a majority and whites a minority in the UK. That would probably be the first time an indigenous population has voluntarily become a minority in its historic homeland’. ….

In California, in a land built by immigrants, [and where the AngloSaxon whites are already a minority], lieutenant governor Bustmente puts a positive spin on the end of the white majority: ‘If
there are no majorities, there are no minorities’.

            and
In Europe, with its 40,000 year old indigenous white population, the rise of a non-European majority may not be greeted with such equanimity.

What makes you think that an invincible Maori/Indian/PI/Chinese coalition dedicated to the destruction of the white man is just over the horizon? Paranoid much? or do you need to confess to something?

There is absolutely no moral equivalence between the fanatical white supremacists who rallied in Charlotteville and the equality defenders who demonstrated peacefully against them, one of whom was rammed and killed by a speeding car driven by a Neo-Nazi.

The supremacists hate black people and Jews, and regard white people as superior. They talk about blood, soil and the right to bear arms. They admire Hitler and give Nazi salutes. They fly the swastika and the flags of the pro-slavery Confederacy.

And one of them committed the sort of act that was rightly called terrorism when it occurred in Nice, Berlin and London.

Shame on you sore thumb for trying to flip this on its head.

Sorethumb; so many bleats about the poor oppressed white people that I suspect you have a severe case of “White Fragility”.
Dr. Robin DiAngelo explains why white people implode when talking about race:

White supremacists in the US have to face the fact that they live in a multi racial country and nothing is going to change that. Marching around the streets with flaming torches and shouting racist slogans is just infantile behaviour from which nothing positive will come.

Symbols of the racist south such as the confederate flag and statues of Robert E Lee have no place in modern America.

Trump has been critised by both Republicans and Democrats for not reacting swiftly enough to condemn such behaviour.

“Donald Trump has faced bipartisan criticism after failing to explicitly condemn the role of white supremacists in clashes with counter-protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, that culminated in a car running into a crowd, killing at least one person.”

“Trump comments were good. He didn’t attack us. He just said the nation should come together. … No condemnation at all. When asked to condemn, he just walked out of the room. Really, really good. God bless him.” – Daily Stormer, a white supremacist website.

    Says it all.

    • It’s as if he is incapable of separating out his feeling of antagonism to ANTIFA, resistance groups and their constant demonstrations against him from this gathering of nationalist/rightist groups. It’s like he’s trying to even the perception score. He’s like a child in this manner. Why should I condemn the hard right when you ( the media and left) have given ANTIFA and RESIST groups a free pass for months and even actively encouraged violence? I get he feels egregiously pissed, but it’s simple, a group of people overstepped the mark and one of their number used a car as a weapon and killed someone.

Every chance he gets to change the narrative he fails to do so. The media pounce on him no matter what, but it’s banal and politically naive to imagine that balance can be added by failing to condemn outright murder.

How hard is it to step up and outright condemn the actions of the car terrorist and widen it to the specific hatred this group has? By being more fulsome he may well glean some sympathy for the attacks and hatred shown to him.

Why isn’t he more politically savvy yet

Why isn’t he more politically savvy yet

He’s just not the right person to be doing that job.

        • All it would still take to garner some empathy from the left is to throw them a few carefully crafted speeches with a measured inclusive tone. Heaven knows most politicians can at least play the empty words with gritted teeth game.

Awful though it may be I think this is the outcome of nature taking its course. Eventually matter and anti matter collide and – boom. Loonies just doing what loonies do. At least someone got arrested for a change and good job. A murder charge is still treated seriously in much of the US.
