Morning Report spent about 5 minutes on Jimmy Kimmell/ Kibbell a comedian talking about Trump, but we don’t hear Trumps actual speech. I suspect because it takes the situation from the motte (Hate, bigotry, KKK, Neo-Nazis) to the Bailey. In the bailey there was violence on both sides and there is a wider issue – the removal of statues as a continuing process.

    • The big issue for most people is the rise of the ugly ‘white supremacist’ American right, their applauding Trump, and Trump applauding back.

“there was violence on both sides and there is a wider issue”

That’s the sort of lines Trump has pushed, and he is being widely condemned for his support and promotion of a growing ugliness. You and David Duke think it’s ok, but most see the ugliness for what it is.

Trump may be encouraging something horrific in the US. And if the US blows up in his face we will be affected, far more than by ongoing wars in the Middle East.

That may be so Pete, but he was right to a point on the violence on both sides, and the left media who don’t condemn groups like BLM and Antifa are legitimising their violence, just as Trump not condemning the neo nazis is seen to legitimise them. It is a problem on the extremes of both left and right.

  2. 1 News has their latest Colmaar Brunton poll tonight at 6 pm.

Roy Morgan are just about due with their latest poll too.

These will give us more of an idea of changes in support after a very eventful couple of weeks, but probably wonm’t tell us the whole story. We won’t know that for another five weeks.

When Julie Bishop did her big act this week it occurred to me that Pauline Hanson had a rival as Silly Aussie Woman of the Year. Hanson must’ve been peeved not just with people’s attitude towards her attitudes, but that Bishop was hogging the headlines:

Australian MP Pauline Hanson turns up to Parliament in full burqa
