Tough for Turei in Te Tai Tonga

After resigning as Green co-leader and withdrawing from the party list Metiria Turei’s only chance of staying in Parliament was in winning the Te Tai Tonga electorate. This is the first time as a Green MP she has tried to win an electorate rather than going for party votes.

A Maori Television poll suggests it will be tough for Turei – Te Tai Tonga – Preferred Candidate:

  • Rino Tirikatene (Labour) 57.1%
  • Mei Reedy-Taare (Maori Party) 22.1%
  • Metiria Turei (Greens) 20.7%

Tirikatene is not the best performing of MPs but he has strong family and iwiw ties to the electorate.

Electorate result in 2014:

  • Rino Tirikatene (Labour) 41.77%
  • Ngaire Button (Maori Party) 24.19%
  • Dora Roimata Langsbury (Greens) 15.69%
  • Georgina Beyer (Mana) 9.87%
  • Emma-Jane Mihaere Kingi (Legalise Cannabis) 4.97%

  1. This is entirely predictable. Tirikatene is synonymous with Southern Moari electorates since forever……

Metiria should have run in Wellington Central and really tested all the Left wing credentials of Aro Valley and the leafy suburbs around the CBD……

As long she loses its all good and some justice is done. I wonder how the prosecution for fraud is coming along? It’s about time for another leak.

I’m not sure how useful or valuable Rino has been, tbh. Has he achieved anything for Maori?

Metiria, I think, misread the Maori electorates completely – notwithstanding that she gets the backing of all the female party candidates who are Maori on Marae tv – because, you know, “White Middle Class Males” did her in, “she’s a dirt poor wahine fighting a evil pakeha colonial system”, “she comes from the same marae as wotsername* (I’ll get back to you) & “she’s Marama’s cousin” – so … whanaunga for all those reasons.

Metiria got so far up herself she choked herself, emasculated Shaw, & has damn near throttled her party by dragging it toward a socialist utopian bludgerland nobody else who’s hard-working & actually planning for paying for their own family home & kids expects to have to pay for.

Hmm, might not have been Mei, from the same marae, come to think of it. Some other wahine, I think. Might’ve been a Labour candidate. Doesn’t matter, they were all ckucking out the same lines, in agreement with the biased dude who was the host.

Did National wrongly claim extra super money on behalf of Winston? Must’ve missed that, hence why it is all their fault.

        Funny how you blame National people for leaking but Winston’s own attack dog is now blaming a senior civil servant;

the plot thickens….we know this information was not pertinent to the ‘no surprises’ policy. The key person who authorised its dissemination is Una Jasgose-Solicitor General….say no more…’The newly sworn Solicitor-General took office yesterday, replacing her former law school classmate Michael Heron QC. She steps down from her most recent role, 12 months acting as director of the Government Communications Security Bureau.

Now leading the Crown Law Office and professional head of government’s 800-plus team of in-house lawyers, Ms Jagose is keen to further advance developments at Crown Law that seek to better “harness the value” of publicly employed legal skills, knowledge and talent.’
ex GCSB ..and can’t interpret policy…incredible.

The idea that National somehow conned Auntie Winnie is so far-fetched that I wonder that even Blazer can believe it.

you haven’t been paying attention.National control the ministries that accessed the information.

The information was given to them, they did not ‘access’ (ouch) it.

      • National hit job – you are in fantasy land Blazer. Fraser House or where ever Auntie has based herself & her hit crew, and that is where all the multiple hit jobs are sourced….
