Winston’s policy demands

Now it is negotiation time to see who can form the next government it’s worth looking at some of Winston Peters’ demands.

  • Move Port of Auckland to Marsden Point
  • Move Parliament to Waitangi
(no sitting times after the Russell Ferry stops running)
  • Rebuild Eden Park in Whangarei
  • Relocate Ellerslie race course to Dargaville
  • International airport at Kerikeri
  • America’s Cup to be staged at Bay of islands

However it is not clear whether Peters will put the same priority on these policies after losing the Northland electorate.

Obviously only the first of those is actually NZ First policy, but it is about as practical as the rest.

    Nice!

I smell a piss take. So let’s play this game. How about…

    Abolish Maori seats
    Reduce parliament to 100 MPs

    • I assume the port will be high on Winston’s agenda.

I don’t know whether a deal will swing on the Maori seats, somehow I doubt it.

I seriously doubt that reducing Parliament to 100 seats is going to be anywhere near a priority.

“I assume the port will be high on Winston’s agenda.”

Odd assumption. The only thing high on Winston’s agenda is Winston.

I agree with any recommendation to decentralise the infrastructure out of Akld. BUT as per the saying; ‘it wont happen overnight, but it will/may happen !’
I keep hearing that the country is Akld.-centred (where most of the work is) BUT many cant afford to live there, let alone buy a house, >$1mil

If the port were moved out all the space created could be used for car parking. Not for the just-off-the-boat ones but for all the daily commuters and those populating the apartment blocks in the area. Now there’s a real cash cow. More encouragement too then, to use all the fsncy new motorways that are coming.😊

Lets move the port its got no business being there, Northland looks as good a bet as any and if the deal is done Port of Tauranga shares could be a good place to park some spare cash.
Seriously its quite an easy deal to do if you asset swap it around and sell the Northland port into the super/acc fund and float some of the shares to the general public it should come at no expense to the taxpayers and the benefits are too many to count.

Winston may just have a glance at the Greens and just imagine what chaos is likely from Marama Davidson, Chloe whats her face and the new plastic refugee from Iran who isnt a refugee at all. You have to wonder if Ardern will be able to control her expanded caucus to with Greg O Conner and Willie Jackson likely to be a handful.

Winston may just have a glance at the Natz and just imagine what chaos is likely from Nick Smith, Bennett whats her face and the new plastic refugee from China who isnt a spy at all. You have to wonder if English will be able to control his expanded caucus to with Chris Bishop and Stephen Joyce likely to be a handful.

I think blazer that they have had 9 years of caucus discipline, they are no swivel eyed idealists or anyone likely to be bothered about being unpopular on twitter if they dont virtue signal hard enough. Being in power is about tough choices and this lot from the top down are unproven in their personal let alone their professional lives.

        • Every 9 years or so we get a whole new bunch of unproven people taking over the running of the country. We seem to survive each time.

I agree Pete and we will be fine but in the context of Winston making his choice it is a more stable bet going with National than with Labour because of the Green factor and their rather unpredictable idealistic social justice people, Shaw doesnt strike me as someone who would be much good at discipline with a cuacus that literally is diametrically opposed to pretty much everything Winston believes in.

Seriously – I talk politics with ma these days. She & dad had bugger-all education. They both worked from an early age – dad a highly-skilled but low paid painter, paperhanger & decorator, ma as a clerical worker in accounts. Took on extra after-hours cleaning jobs to buy their first house & did it all up inside & out, & continued to do that with 3 other houses, right up until they retired.

Ma was always the brains of their operation. She managed all the bills, still manages their bank investments, keeps money on short-term deposits, rings the banks, always seems to score special concessions or higher interest than the going rate for most others.

Labour voters all their lives, she still is. I never used to pay any attention to ma’s views on politics because the issues are so complex & she’s so unsophisticated in her understanding of them. But nowadays, out of interest, I sometimes point out arguments raised here on YNZ – & she comes out with seriously pertinent points that reflect her 90 years of experience of actually being a smart cookie.

“Chloe whats her face and the new plastic refugee from Iran who isnt a refugee at all” ?

That has the ring of being pissed of with the election result about it. At least you knew there was a Chloe. A bit of a pity the “plastic refugee from Iran” hadn’t had an eye shot out, a leg chopped off and witnessed her parents being slaughtered when she was a kid to make her pass muster.

Its MMP who is ever happy with an election result, no one. Having only just survived the media love in that was Jacindamania I now have this rather photogenic Iranian that I am supposed to adore, give me strength her parents were economic migrants and chancers who came here after holidaying in Malaysia not escaping bombs and bullets. Good on her for doing well but spare me the nonsense.

I saw her given a 5 second sound byte on 1ewes last nite. Man she looked utterly gorgeous, huuuge eyes. Sounded articulate, but a bit of a dreamer to me – but that’s my age & well-developed sense of reality these days. Good luck to her. I wouldn’t vote for her but she’ll represent a group of young people & dreamers who’re entitled to representation. You’re in no way obligated to adore her – I don’t – I just noted she’s a classically physically attractive young woman.

You might find she’s raised the average iq G. The western world owes much to Persian scholars. And they’re more into genies and belly dancing than burquas and beheading favoured by the other lot

That’s in Iran. It’s one of the things that bothers me about Dinglebunny running the US & ranting on in his childishly simple-minded way about what a danger Iran is. It’s not. The young women in Tehran these days are out & about unaccompanied by chaperones, veils, yes, but in jeans, wearing makeup, sipping lattes, speaking english, french … their young men friends are the same – except without the makeup – & average citizens are openly complaining about the money the government is wasting on supporting the Republican Guards involvement in Iraq.

The young people will replace the old guard soon. The country recently re-elected a very moderate, responsible, president over the nutjob Ahmadinejad.

Seen these scenes on Aljaz tv, more than once.

Contrast that with Trumpy’s new besties, the Saudis. Who fund terrorist loving imam madrassas. Someone’s tugging Trumpy.

And I should just correct the above, the young women in Tehran – it’s not veils they’re wearing. Their faces are completely uncovered as well as wesring makeup. They’re just wearing what amount to colourful headscarves. Again, contrast them with the oppressed, head to foot & face-covered black-clad subordinated, segregated, male-chaperoned females in Saudi Arabia.

The only certainty is that Winston will have a justification for any conceivable option and we will never know the real reason for the one he chooses.

The other certainty is that whoever Winston goes with will be out on their ear come 2020.
