Weinstein got away with it for a long time

Harvey Weinstein has been exposed as a sexual harasser – he has accepted some faults, but has denied non-consensual sex. His wife has separated from him over the revelations.

A number of actresses have now come out and say that Weinstein harassed them. How did he get away with it for so long?

NZH: How many fixers helped Harvey Weinstein?

Finally, after decades, his come-uppance has arrived.

It’s an all-star cast of complainants. Not to mention the volume. The names just keep going, like donors on a crowd-funding site. He was prodigious, he was consistent. And his people – his efficient, whip-smart team of people – kept sending women up to the room.

Actresses went up to that doorway, to fulfil their dreams. But instead of a genie behind the door, doling out wishes, there was a creepy ogre instead, all-powerful, all-wealthy. Indeed, above wealth. Above even fame – so far above fame, he was capable of bestowing it.

The New Yorker site has police audio, taped by a brave actress who’d been molested by him previously, wearing a wire.

It’s chilling. He works every angle in the space of a minute, trying to get the actress into his room – good cop, bad cop, multiple-personality cop, beggar, bully, confidant, henchman, ally, assassin, and back again – no doubt the negotiating tactics that made him a successful producer. The menace is stone cold.

But the audio doesn’t seem to have been enough to start a prosecution.

When you’re a star, they let you do it. More like, help you do it.

How many fixers were there? The people who delivered the actresses. Then the people to draft the settlements, haggle the victims down to below six figures, collect the signatures promising silence, agreeing nothing had happened. What a team. They really put the HR into harassment.

The US legal and entertainment systems have allowed this sort of thing to go on for a long time, actively enabled by some, abetted by silence.

(It’s not clear whether that was written by Toby Manhire or Raybon Kan).

Donna Karan fashion designer has her say and that say is Woman may have been asking for the harassment by the way they dress.
She told a reporter ‘we have to look at ourselves’ and question how women are presenting themselves and their sexuality”.

Unfortunately there is a load of these sorts of bulling AH’s who think they have rights to women’s bodies, there are quite a few here in NZ as well.
The ones that have the power to to pull the ladder of success out from under the woman who say Get Knotted, when they pull there sleazy tricks and put their sleazy hands on your Private Parts.

I was a model in my younger days and came across some of these types. Trying to ply me full of alcohol and as quickly as my glass was fulled I tipped it into a pot plant in the dressing room. After one episode the clothes owner came in and tried to ‘help’ me take off my trou well I thought I would be able to handle this slap him around and tell him to FO but I was frozen yes frozen until he said something so vile I just pushed him and ran for the door.
Never got paid for that job as I didn’t fulfil my contract.

I didn’t tell any body till years later just couldn’t, don’t know why to this day.
I wish I could understand why we woman can not yell ‘attempted seduction’.
To stop it from becoming rape.
Would like to meet that sleazy guy today 2 black eyes, broken nose and a few missing teeth would be my Howzit

    • HW got away with it because he was let to; anyone who’s paid for silence is selling herself and letting the person keep doing it.

I am going to be unPC and say that if women wear dresses that barely cover their nipples or that show their bare bums because they are made of fishing net-and ‘celebrities’ have been photographed like that-they are saying that these parts of themselves are for anyone who want to see them to do so. These things say ‘available’ just as goods in a shop window do.What image does someone who dresses in a way that shows their sexual parts presenting of themselves ?

People can’t be blamed for looking at what they can’t help seeing !

I don’t agree with your assessment in this case Kitty. This Harvey Weinstein modus operandi is to intimidate and force women to be sexually subservient to him. His gig is “control”, rather than sexual desire brought about by women, who dress provocatively like women are dressed in some of his films. He can afford as much sex as he wants, and there would be plenty of “starlets” who would give out willingly, but that’s not the gig. That’s why he’s creepy, not because of sexual frustration.

”Weinstein got away with it for a long time.”

So has liberal hypocrisy. If I hear one more word about Tibet, Syrian refugees and Donald Trump blaring out from Hollywood, I will puke. I hope Republicans make good use of these revelations.

Completely relevant. He got away with it for so long because he supported the ‘right’ causes. The entire Hollywood-Democrat machine protected him.

Meryl Streep was happy to call him God, applaud child rapist Roman Polanski, but it was Trump she found so offensive she attacked in her Oscar speech.

That’s right David, the Democrat machine is pretty creepy. I suspect there’s worse creepiness we’re not hearing about that this guy, may be taking the fall for. Pedophilia is rife in Hollywood too.

Mr T bragged about ‘grabbing all the women on their pu55y’; the ‘casting couch’ is as old as ‘entertainment’ has likely existed..
I knew a bloke in Aust. who worked in stage musicals etc. he told me that most directors/producers had one & many female (maybe males too) were willing to do this to get a ‘break’ OR a starring role.

Weinstein just wasn’t discreet about it. :/

This has nothing to do with being a Democrat or Republican it is just about men in positions of power exerting control over women. In this there is no difference between Weinstein and Trump, they both have mistreated women. Both are basically bullies.

Wrong. It has everything to do with Democrats and Republicans, This is why it’s been released now. They haven’t gotten into the pedophilia yet. Waiting …

Just to point out that Trump was a Democrat for the vast majority of his life and good mates with yet another serial Democrat abuser, Bill Clinton.

The way Weinstein and Trump treat women has nothing to do with their political leaning it is just the type of men they are.

Edward Heath the ex British PM could well have been facing sex abuse charges if he was still alive.
