The Winston Show today

The Winston Show continues today. We don’t know whether the big announcement this afternoon, announced by Winston Peters yesterday, will be the final act or not. The Greens at least seem to want an epilogue for themselves.

Peters is producing, directing and starring in his show. The NZ First appeared in one act but they have since dispersed, leaving their star in the limelight.

National and Labour are bit players. They don’t know what the announcement is going to reveal, they don’t know what part if any either of them may play. Bill English and Jacinda Ardern have allowed themselves to be sidelined after offering the baubles they think will buy them power.

I voted so I can moan when I find out what is revealed today. Or I can groan and wait another day or two.

Beware of assumptions. Yesterday:

Today this dawned on them:

I’m not sure that everyone is hoping for that, many are probably past caring. Or preparing themselves for three years of the Winston Show.

The grumpies who vote for Winston are pissed off at the world so they are quite happy when he pisses off the world. That’s their mission in life. Like the Greens, they are not too interested in actually doing anything.

I was never a huge fan of Winston but he had his good and bad points and now I loathe him as a self centered egotist who has no business being in our house of representatives. Its all about his legacy which makes him unfit for office, i dont care any more what he announces because the next government will be generally detested because of his prescence in it.

I’m not a fan of Winston, but I do feel sorry for him. The media have been acting like complete numpties looking for stories during confidential negotiations and either spouting nothings or projecting their own views on Winstons thoughts and motives. He has kept his counsel and been respectful of the process and if a result comes today it will have been relatively quick.

Still torn as to which way I prefer as I cannot see a Government including NZF lasting the full term, but it seems answers will follow this afternoon, with the little scuttlebutt there is pointing to PM Jacinda.

As I don’t like to spread gossip I will write this only once.Because Bill English is so intent on being P.M after the Key era,he has caved to Peters. The word is Winston will be Dep PM,have 2 ministery positions and 1 associate to delegate and their will be an Epsom arrangement in Northland.A ministry of Regional Economic Development will be created and Gold Card holders will get cheaper electricity.Immigration will be capped in the 40-50,000 band, but none of Winstons banking initiatives and forex suggestions will be adopted. If the co-alition survives Winston will be nominated for a KNIGHTHOOD in 2019.This message is highly confidential and will disappear 10 minutes after you have read it.

  6. If Peters chooses to go with Labour then all the spotlight and pressure will go on the Greens, who will have the power of a veto.

  7. I offered gossip from a source ex a claimed NZF source yesterday.

What I can also say is that his old lawyer mates, rugby colleagues and 80s politicians are pleading with him to go status quo with Nats. I know of one of his mates who works with one of my nearest and dearests who has been in contact with him several times in this period.

At this stage of his life do his lifelong buddies have voices he considers important or will he decide rather to go in the interests of the party post his retirement.

Whatever he does it’s going to be tough going, not for him but rather for all of us.

    • When you’re old and rocketing towards 80, I’d figure you might rather consider the voices of the people who’ll be popping in to see you the Rest Home. Guaranteed those visitors won’t be Helen, Michael, Jacinda, Grant or James.P – even if he goes with them.

Arise Sir Winston, your most curmudgeonly right honourable.

         /  October 19, 2017

so who will the kind and caring Natz visiting him be then?

        • Not the current mob, but there are still some of the old guard about. Paul East is one. Also, there are still many old party members with statist interferist sympathies.

His lawyer mates are well known. Gossip. I was told the other day that as a legal eagle Peters was the most lazy person, bar none, they’d ever worked with.

Paul East is his ex flat mate apparantly. What surprises me about this friendship, is that East was connected to players in the Winebox saga that really set the entitled establishment against Winston.Whatever sins he has committed since this episode I find easy to forgive. All the chicanery, fraud and misrepresentation in the world writ large in lil ole NZ,and Winston vindicated in spite of fighting the born to rule.

the countdown is on….. methinks the biggest loser, so far is MMP; mainly because the MSM has constantly pushed Left v Right narrative !! meanwhile NZF has dashed through the middle..

regardless of outcome, there will be a change of Govt. even if Natz do get the nod.. UF & Maori, gone & Act likely sidelined ? :/

    …arise Sir Winnie ??? 😀

    • Zedd

       /  October 19, 2017

btw; I wonder whether there will be another LOUD call to again; review & change the MMP thresh-hold etc. according to the stats about 4-5% of total; TOP/Maori/Mana/ALCP/Dem-SC/Cons. etc. were discounted or given to other parties ?
This is the real failure of MMP, to my mind.. 😦

      • Gezza

         /  October 19, 2017

I’m just trying to picture coalition negotiations in that scenario, tho, Zedd. How flippin long it would take. Everbody fighting over who doesn’t want to be Finance Minister. The media filling in the time all the way until after Christmas while negotiations continue …

        • @geZza

methinks ‘critical’ ministerial roles (spec; Finance) should go to the ‘ruling party’ (largest) in the coalition OR ALCP (by default) if they are there 😀

          • Gezza

             /  October 19, 2017

My really is the FM would presumably have a much more difficult time costing & arguing whether they can & will be able to accommodate the policy or spending demands of a plethora of coalition parties without cutting something somewhere that negatively impacts their own support base.

              @geZza

I hear you.. but MMP is about getting more diverse voices into the parliament. It is unlikely that all these ‘minor parties’ would be demanding, ministerial roles ?
It may also prevent parties (eg NZF) becoming the ‘tail wagging the dog’ if there are more coalition options to choose from, as in Germany, with several of these ‘minor parties’ in their Bundestag (sic ?) 🙂

         /  October 19, 2017

        @geZza

all the chatter; NZF actually have more policy agreements with Labour ?
then again IF Greens ‘throw their toys out’ & refuse to support a Lab/NZF deal.. we could be back to square 1, so Natz would be the ‘likely choice’

BUT; in a few hours we will probably all know ??????? 🙂

“BUT; in a few hours we will probably all know ??????? 🙂”

Hope so. But then again, it’s Winston we’re talking about – & he’s getting a lot of attention …

My Indian dairy owner said this morning he thinks the Party that gets the most votes should have the right to form the government & choose coalition partners. He didn’t care whether it was Labour or National, but that’s how it should be done, he reckoned.

              Hi De Hi Gez
Just got back from the river. So glad to see you here. You really give this place a … hmmm whats the word I’m looking for … well you now, a really good place. My English is as bad as that chick Evenrude* that sometimes gets on your FiP when you’re off hunting the elvers.

Winston Peters, you know Gez I was always a fan goil of his because of the restrictions he wants to put on the Borders, etc.
But after talking to a man who spoke to him about something and Winston gave an answer to this question.
Fast forward 6 months and when Winston came through again the man (friend) asked him “Hey Winston whats the hapz with this taake?”
Winston reply was ‘We politicians say things that we sometimes don’t mean.”

My friend is one of the most straightest white man I could possible meet and he was devastated with Winston reply so much so he is now going around telling people not to believe in WP.
He says “You will have more luck believing the fairies”.
At which point I said “Do you know about Patupaiarehe?”.
‘No such thing’ he said. “Just tall blondes looking for action”.
This is a true story Gez. Love you like my dearest bro. 😉

*Evenrude. No offence Gez but she sounds a bit Cray Cray.
Give her the flick bro I’ve got a Oddball instead.

possum, i can see Winston dropping a throwaway like that. To the feeble minded this would be deeply troubling
However can i assure you that he is extremely engaging in a one on one, and the one liners are delivered with a mischievous grin. Although I am concerned about the way his right eyelid has begun to droop noticeably in recent days.
