Don’t forget the NZ First supporters who voted NZ1 believing Winston would go with National. Boy, have they now got a jaundiced view of Winston.

      • People who voted for NZ First hoping for specific policies were taking a big punt, or were just misguided.

What they were betting on for NZ First :
        – made the threshold
        – were in a position to decide between Labour and National
        – could negotiate the specific policy as a small minority partner

NZ First were always going lose out on many of their policies. Winston knew this, so played voters with policies he knew he would have an excuse not to deliver on.

A punt? No more than say …voting national in the forlorn hope they would honour their pledge to overhaul the RMA

          Reply
          • A much bigger punt than National, who would be expected to have held sway over most of their preferred policies albeit with a few concessions. That’s how proportional government works, or should be expected to work.

Mark Sainsbury told me along with some disgruntled punters. Tell me Lurchy..how do you know you voted? Could your vote have been one of those disallowed because scrutineers didn’t know whose thumb print it was?

this kiwi blogger is struggling to come to terms with the fact,WE WON and his side lost…

National Party voters are still coming to terms how their 56 Seats in the General Election was trumped by Labours 46 Seats.
They are also at a loss that how a Tatty,Low Rent,Morally Bankrupt “Derelict” called Peters can sell out their dreams and aspirations for a secure and stable NZ.
Morally bankrupt, low rent Peters was able to “Select” an also ran so called leader name of “Commie Chic” Comrade Ardern, to be called the PM “Elect” for NZ by “default”, who should not be other than an also ran ranting commie.

    • Much is made of how NZ MMP IS like Germany. Peters even brought it up. That is NOT the case

Under Germany’s MMP system, the party or bloc that takes the most seats has a mandate to form a government. If none has a majority, talks on forming a coalition ensue.

Their system has a safeguard that makes a coalition of the losers unlikely, as it’s the most popular party that takes the lead, not the party that holds the balance of power. This is less likely to result in the horse trading that New Zealand First engaged in, and it is therefore more likely that the government will include the party with the most public support. Clearly there is something wrong with our MMP system that needs to be fixed.

That depends on there being options to talk to. Here, Labour and the Greens would not talk to National so they had to talk to Winston who could then simply choose to run a Dutch auction.

China is expected to launch a crude oil futures contract based on the yuan and convertible into gold. This could change the face of the Asian crude oil benchmark. China is the world biggest importer of oil and it’s usually priced in US dollars.

Such a move would allow Russia and Iran to move around US sanctions.

The aim here is to reduce the US dollars power in the commodities market. and will allow producers to be paid in actual gold. Just another global initiative by China to slowly strangle the US.

Gaddaffi tried a similar scheme wanting a pan African currency and economy that would have catapulted the continent into a major world power. Gaddafi died in a ditch while being thrashed with a metal pipe. I think the US will have a real problem trying to manoeuvre the Chinese Premier into a similar situation.

I called the line up of presidents the same as Lurchy said Trump would make of himself. Nothing more, nothing less. That is my honest opinion. They are all fatally flawed for a variety of reasons.

  8. Under fpp when he was with National,W Peters was an ego driven populist i:e supporting the majority no matter the issue no matter the facts. Post MMP still ego driven but more cunning Winston knows you don’t need a majority of votes all you need is 7-10% and you hold the balance of power. Sooperannuants give him that constant stable 7-10% market share.186,000 shades of gray. The attack of the Zimmers. Gawd defend NewZimmerland 🙂

Personally, I would have just put my spare on, removed the clamp back at my workshop, then returned it to the office of the parking company. Thru the front window… 😀 Why people give these pricks money is beyond my understanding. The only time it is a criminal offence to remove a clamp, is if it has been attached by a court appointed bailiff.
