For all you francophiles here’s a timeless Piaf classic, swing beat, two acoustic guitars. A sultry seductress covered in baby oil lying between satin sheets.
    Less is more…

If you can get pandora I heartily recommend ‘French cooking music’. I think you would like it …especially with a glass of Beaujolais close at hand

Save your approprium for their government possum. I hated the frogs for many years until I spent some time there. They are fine people, especially in rural parts. Its the politicians who are the bad arses …they are a blight on humanity

Jez Con you bet me to it. : I wondered if that was a fraudulent slip. 😉

Any way French people are beautiful just like Maori …
I just can’t do it, you know put the blame on the whole tribe
because of a couple bad apples or frogs as they say.
Don’t know why they call them frogs?
Government + compliant Agents and you got a Blast happening.
I will always remember the night on Auckland Port.

Butt After imagining myself at a cool french villa talking to Bridget
reminiscing over good times. Shes a bit of a greenie, If I remember correctly.
And listening to Gerry Palmer … What can a girl do.

My French friend and my German friend can say the same thing
But in their own language. Frenches have it down pat.
Germans sound like they always arresting me. 😎

            • LOL re the Germans. What a mental picture “arresting you’. I lived there for some time. I’m well versed in the national personality.

Yep Blazz … that Explains everything now.

            • Can ANY nation of people be said to be all beautiful people ? And why are the politicians areseholes if they are the same race as the rest ?

Try asking directions of some French people. “Out est la gare, s’il vous plait ?’ Answer; a Gallic shrug and look of incomprehension-but one can tell that the person is just being deliberately obstructive and that they know perfectly well what one is asking.

If you were in Paris, I gather that’s par for the course.

            • Not just in Paris, helas. I can’t see the sense in it.Why be so damned disobliging ?

NB, when it’s people, they are ‘Frogs’ or ‘Froggies’, not ‘frogs’ .

              In a French restaurant:

Customer;Garcon ! Do you have frogs’ legs ?
              Waiter; Oui, monsieur.
Customer; Then hop out to the kitchen and bring me a cup of coffee.

I wonder if the woman here who was opening up a cafe and calling it ‘Frottage’ was persuaded to call it something else-as I remember it, she would not be told that this name would make the place a laughing-stock. I’d love to know what SHE thought it meant-and why she thought that everyone else was wrong.

I was just half-listening while doing paper work this morning to a documentary on Aljazeera about a popular comedienne based in Tripoli (I think). As is common there were English subtitles & she & others featured were speaking French. I still remember bits of my schoolboy French – enuf to know when Google Translate is wrong – & it actually ran through my mind that there is just something about the frogs’ language that is positively tuneful to the ear. Even though sometimes they don’t even pronounce some consonants, like s’s, so you wonder why they bother to put them in when they spell the words.

          • I loathe subtitles, especially American ones. They are very difficult to ignore and are often extremely peculiar-talk about Fractured French. Imagine translating ‘blouse’ as ‘blouse’ Sacre bleu !

Does anyone know this classic little book ? It has gems like ‘Chateaubriand = your hat is on fire’ and ‘Hors de combat=camp followers.’

      • Sacre bleu PP. Tell me you’d turn down a month in a villa in the south of France with everyone’s favourite mademoiselle from the 50s..Brigitte

“But where do you go to my lovely
When you’re alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head”

      Sexual harassment case right there…

      • Gezza

         /  November 17, 2017

Well, of course in full context it’s not actually, there’s no unspoken assumption her thoughts – or his – are on sex.

But it did strike me before I posted it that Marie-Clare is clearly one of those beautiful good time girls who has used her looks to gain access to men offering her the high life & to move about in the elite & moneyed circles. And that it’s coincidentally relevant to the “sexual harrassment/casting couch/women using their sexuality to manipulate men” discussion elsewhere today.

        • You talk like Marlene Dietrich,
          And you dance like Zizi Jeanmaire;
Your clothes are all made by Balmain,
And there’s diamonds and pearls in your hair,
          Oh, yes, there are…

You live in a fancy apartment
          On the Boulevard Saint Michele
Where you keep your Rolling Sones records
And a friend of Sacha Distel…

But where do you go to, my lovely,
When you’re alone in your bed ?
What are the thoughts that surround you ?
I’d like to look inside your head

When the snow falls, you go to St Moritz,
With the others of the jet set,
And you sip your Napoleon brandy
But you never get your lips wet,
          Oh, no you don’t

They say that when you get married
          It’ll be to a millionaire
But they don’t realise where you come from
And I wonder if they really care…

I remember the back streets of Naples,
          Two children begging in rags,
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off (their lowly born tags ?)

Sp look into my eyes, Marie-Claire,
And remember just who you are,
Then turn and forget me forever
But I know that you still bear the scar
          Deep inside

I know where you go to, my lovely,
When you’re alone in your bed-
I know the thoughts that surround you….
Cos I can look inside your head….

I hope that the words are right-I have this on a record. but haven’t played it for ages.

I can’t see this as sexual harassment in any way ! The singer isn’t wanting to LOOK at her in bed, or join her there, he’s just saying that he knows what goes through her mind when she’s alone and away from her glam ‘friends’. Because he is the same, still the ragged street kid inside.

    • The French for false teeth is ‘aperitif’.

I believe they refer to teeth as ‘Knachers’ in the ‘Eastern suburbs’ G, but I could be wrong… 😉
