  1. In a different mode, or another plane of being, music is the equivalent of some of man’s most significant and most inexpressible experiences. By mysterious analogy it evokes in the mind of the listener, sometimes the phantom of these experiences, sometimes even the experiences themselves in their full force of life — it is a question of intensity; the phantom is dim, the reality, near and burning. Music may call up either; it is chance or providence which decides. The intermittences of the heart are subject to no known law

Almost summer; time for some classic NZ reggae:

  4. ALMOST summer ? It’s been hitting 30 here for weeks. How hot does it have to before YOU call it summer ? Blimey, Snowy.

Well, I don’t mind the heat but you can keep your freezing fogs! I used to stay down your way, a little too close to the river.

The freezing fogs are largely gone, thank goodness-they were indeed awful. I was told that peat draining had done this.

There is no lovelier sight than mist rising from the river and wooded hills. I still find this an enchanting sight.

It’s been a big day. I’ve been ‘attacked’ from all angles, but stayed calm, and dealt with shit as it happened. As it does regularly. Listening to this sort of music helps me ‘unwind’, even though it may have the opposite effect on others…

A conversation from earlier today, for the amusement of the ‘group’….
Builder: Yo Patu, where’s my steel?
Me: Oh, the beams for …….. job?
      Builder: Yup
Me: Oh rightyo, the job you ordered on Friday?
Builder: Yup, that’s the one. We’re putting roof trusses up tomorrow mate.
Me: I’m picking you want steel underneath those.
Builder: Yup, so where’s my steel?
Me: Most likely at Fletchers yard
Builder: WTF! I ordered it on Friday, don’t you c-nts work Saturdays??!
Me: Sure do, but Fletchers don’t.
Builder: FFS! When will it be here!
Me: Wednesday, or maybe tomorrow, if you don’t want it painted.
Builder: Of course I want it f-cking painted!!!
Me: Wednesday it is then, 10am OK with you?
Builder: I guess it’ll have to be, won’t it?!
      Me: Yup
Builder: You c-nts need to get your shit together!
      Me: Yup, sorry about that
      Builder: F-ck you! (hangs up)

A less patient man might get really upset by being at the ‘arse end’ of a conversation like that. ‘Speakerphone’ is a really helpful tool, when dealing with a ‘difficult client’. The smiles on the faces of your colleagues are priceless, and give one the reassurance needed, to continue being ‘annoyingly polite’… 😀
